You did a great job explaining the importance of bringing out pieces in the opening, pins, making sure your pieces are defendable before trying an attack during the middlegame, and more! I think that the best way to get better at chess is to play against someone more experienced than you, so I loved that you gave your learner a chance to do that. It allows them to see the strategies to talk about in real time and they can immediately try them. You also did a great job engaging the learner in asking him why certain moves were made and making sure he understood what you were saying.
