My Voice, My Superpower

May 5, 2025

I’ve been called many things: chatterbox, motor-mouth, even “the girl who talks more than the announcements.” And while those titles used to embarrass me, I now wear them like a badge of honor. Growing up, I didn’t just *like* talking—I needed it the way fish need water. I asked questions faster than teachers could answer. I narrated my day like a podcast to anyone who’d listen (or couldn’t escape). At first, I thought my talkativeness was just noise—something to tone down, to "fix." But then came eleventh grade, and something changed. During a school debate competition, one of our speakers panicked mid-round. As the room tensed, I did what came naturally: I stood up and started talking—not to show off, but to support. I rephrased her argument gently, steered the discussion back, and even made the judges laugh. We didn’t just finish—we won. Afterwards, the speaker hugged me and said, “You saved me.” That’s when I understood: my voice is more than a habit. It’s a tool. A connection. A way to energize a room, calm a friend, lead a team, or break awkward silences like a pro. Whether I’m emceeing school events, leading club meetings, or tutoring juniors, my ability to communicate clearly—and warmly—has become my biggest strength. In college, I don’t want to “quiet down.” I want to keep learning how to use my voice to empower others, advocate for what matters, and build communities. I believe communication isn’t just about talking—it’s about creating impact. And if I talk a little too much along the way? Well, at least I’ll keep things interesting.

Changing the World, One Session at a Time

Apr 26, 2025

I have always wanted to make an impact on others' lives. To make the world a better place. To make sure that every single person– regardless of race, gender, or religion– has access to the most fundamental human right: education. Schoolhouse.world allowed me to do just that. It provided an opportunity for me to learn while teaching others, at the same time. This platform made a huge impact on my life. And really, it isn't just a platform. It is a community of bright, curious students who strive to achieve their full potential.

Learning with great peers at a great platform

Apr 1, 2025

I joined this platform in December 2024 , initially I thought that it would be boring to learn here but as I moved to next step I got to know about I have the opportunity to teach and to mentor others while my learning. So this is a great platform to learn and be engaged with getting something new ideas or finding new friends to learn with .

A Place for Opportunity

Feb 19, 2025

When I joined Schoolhouse in October 2024, I honestly didn’t know how active and engaged the community would be. After spending a couple of weeks acquiring certifications in Pre-Algebra, I quickly realized just how vibrant Schoolhouse was. Tutors can get help in seconds from user support, the Slack channel, and their cohosts, while learners can receive quality guidance on a variety of subjects in just minutes. As I started tutoring more, I immediately wanted to become more involved in the community of tutors and learners. Today, I help new tutors get started by answering questions in #tutoring-support on Slack, and I am always looking for opportunities to guide learners in the Math subworlds. Moving forward, I hope to take on more responsibilities by joining one of the volunteer teams at Schoolhouse. Whether it's helping with user support, protecting Schoolhouse with content review, or another initiative, I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute on a larger scale. Being part of a team that works to improve the community and support both tutors and learners would be a rewarding way to give back to the platform that has given me so much. Looking back, even though I’ve only been part of Schoolhouse for a few months, joining has already been one of the best decisions I’ve made. It has given me a place to grow as a tutor, connect with an inspiring community, and make a real impact on learners around the world. I can’t wait to see what the future holds and to continue this journey, take on new challenges, and help make Schoolhouse an even better place for everyone.

A Chance to Teach, A Chance to Learn

Jan 25, 2025

What a wonderful combination! Last year I found myself scoring almost perfectly on the SAT Reading section, but I consistently struggled with math. My passion and love is English, and when I was given the opportunity to tutor, I leaped at the chance. Simultaneously, I met amazing math tutors who helped me succeed in my weak areas alongside my English tutoring sessions. It was the most perfect set-up. I helped me attain the score I needed, and set me up to pursue my dreams! Thank you so much Schoolhouse. I wouldn't be where I am today without this platform and without the amazing people who sacrifice their time to help others!

240 SAT Score increase

Dec 26, 2024

Up until this year, I had relatively low SAT scores. On both tests I took I got a 1080 (super score of 1100). I needed a higher score to be eligible for a scholarship given from my state but I was already tired of SAT prep and the stress of test day. In my senior year (this year), I found the Schoolhouse 4 week bootcamp and decided to do it for my upcoming December test. This was not my first experience taking an SAT bootcamp, but it was definitely my best. The way class was set up around doing practice problems helped me build confidence in the sections I was good in and recognize what sections more attention. When test day rolled around I felt way more prepared. When my scores came back I had gotten way more than I needed for the state scholarship. I went from a 1080 to a 1320 with the help of Schoolhouse.world

Schoolhouse made me a topper

Nov 24, 2024

Before I discovered SHW, SAT seemed out of my reach. I also had to take the PSAT 8/9 in October. A few months back in my summer before 9th grade, I was scrolling through Khan Academy and I saw a SHW advertisement. I immediately made an account and got my first certification in Pre Algebra. I was so excited to be apart of this community. I kept on taking SAT and classes I was taking in high school. My tutors were very encouraging of my learning. This past October I have taken the PSAT 8/9 and I got a score in the 93 percentile. I am glad I have found SHW it has helped throughout my education very well.

From Learner to Leader: My Journey at Schoolhouse.world

Nov 8, 2024

The journey from being a student to becoming a tutor is a testament to the transformative power of education, and my story is a reflection of this incredible path. It all began when I first joined Schoolhouse.world as a curious learner, eager to expand my knowledge and overcome academic challenges. Little did I know, this platform would soon become a pivotal part of my growth, not only academically but also personally.

I was failing my MYP Biology Class!

Sep 16, 2024

Last year I was taking MYP Biology, My tutor was the best. He never missed a day and was on time. His power points were clear and concise. I understood lessons. I was able to learn without all of the distractions and he took his time. Instead of taking a bunch of notes, I was able to learn and get a clear explanation of each lesson. My teacher was out a lot and the substitutes just showed us videos. I passed my Biology EOC with a level 4. I'm so thankful for my tutor.

I used to think that I would never be able to solve a trigonometry problem. So when I saw a triangle question pop up on my Schoolhouse practice test, I froze up. However, I remembered going over the mnemonic “SohCahToa” with my schoolhouse tutor during a SAT math session. Confidently, I solved the problem by applying what I learned. Even though I didn’t get the question right due to forgetting to simplify the answer, my tutor and I were proud of progress I made. I was proud of solving something I never thought I could solve.

Why SCHOOLHOUSE is a MUST?

Aug 6, 2024

The Schoolhouse Community is doing an exciting job by creating all the possible opportunities for the students and tutors in the United States and around the world and thus it's making great positive changes. I joined Schoolhouse a few days ago to help me improve my DSAT score by joining helpful DSAT bootcamp sessions and after attending only one session I can tell you all that I wish I joined long ago. Since there are many diverse resources and opportunities as it's continuously expanding day by day, Schoolhouse can be one of the most important factors in a student's/tutor's life. All the Best!

The Learner behind the Tutor

Jul 1, 2024

Like many tutors on schoolhouse, I initially joined earlier this year to host SAT bootcamps. I don't think I realized at the time how much I would grow to love it. I remember being extremely nervous before my first session, as I was worried I wouldn't be able to make myself understandable to my learners. While I'd always been fairly comfortable communicating in writing, speaking aloud was something I had more difficulties with. But the schoolhouse community was so overwhelmingly welcoming, its members friendly and understanding. I quickly realized that the culture of schoolhouse, amongst tutors and learners alike, was one of collaboration and unity. Everyone worked together to solve problems, to give constructive feedback, and to help the newer members of the community adjust to the environment. I met some of the most amazing people, in all senses of the word. These people were abundant in their kindness, excited to share their knowledge and overall crucial members of the schoolhouse family. As I became increasingly confident in my abilities to take the lead, I decided I wanted to explore other parts of the schoolhouse platform. I was particularly drawn to chemistry, a subject I'd taken at AP level that same school year, and been a little obsessed with ever since. With my mind lingering on the topic after the AP exam, I took the time to get certified- maybe a little too much time, as I wanted to revisit most of the units to make sure I had a good recollection of the material, as well as I genuinely enjoyed doing the practice. I was thrilled to begin hosting chemistry sessions. What I loved most was getting to teach AND learn at the same time. I tutored learners who had hardly taken a single chemistry class, were unfamiliar with much of the terminology, and some who hardly spoke english. But it was these same learners that talked to me about experiments they'd conducted in their own homes, shared surprising real world applications of the material, and who connected chemistry to other subjects and used it to explain everyday happenings. It was the learners who made me stop to think critically, often times posing unexpected research questions or abstract hypotheticals. Discussions like these drove me to search more, to look more deeply into topics I'd thought I'd mastered before, but was now questioning my understanding of. If someone asked what schoolhouse did for me, this is what I would say: it taught me that even as a tutor, I would always be a learner, and that I would always have a place to be welcomed as both.

From Being Hesitant to Being Confident

Jun 3, 2024

I've been a tutor at SHW for about 3 years now. I haven't been hosting sessions recently because I had to attend tons of classes in my final years of high school. But now that school's over and I'm heading off to medical school, I've decided to come right back to this amazing community, because why not? I remember being enthralled when my dad sent me a LinkedIn post about SHW a few years ago. Free sessions? I'm in!! To be honest, I never really thought I would enjoy it as much as I did. A few days in and I was impressed by the friendly, helpful tutors and the quality of their teaching. I used to join SAT sessions at weird timings because it wasn't always possible for tutors to match timings in my country. Was I kind of sleepy? Yes. Did I love it anyway? Also, yes!! I was an introvert back then and I hated speaking in front of strangers. When my mom noticed I was being hesitant to get a certification, she tried her best to encourage me. In addition to this, I got a lot of support watching new tutors share the struggles they faced. I decided to give it a go and bam! Got certified in a day and hosted my first session. The first 'Super Helpful' and positive feedback got me elated. I met people from different places and it was so much fun! I then decided to join the Audit team. I wasn't really confident but I remember how Mariah sent me an encouraging message right after my first attempt at auditing. SHW really made me a more confident person. When my interviewers for medical colleges asked me about my volunteering experience, I didn't just tell them how I helped out learners, but also how learners helped me grow as a person and how I made tons of friends! Not only is SHW a perfect opportunity to volunteer, it provides a thrilling and wholesome experience.

Learning While Teaching

May 7, 2024

I had already taken the SAT, but I was planning on taking it again to get a better score. I got a 1490 the first time, and I decided to join and tutor people on their reading and writing. This process allowed me to pass on the experience I learned preparing for and taking the SAT my first time, but it also gave me new materials and strategies that I adopted to do better the second time around. I attribute the 1580 I got the second time around to the BootCamp I hosted.

To Make A Difference

Mar 9, 2024

I joined schoolhouse very recently, as a SAT Bootcamp Tutor. I received an email from CollegeBoard informing me of the opportunity, and, safe to say, my interest was piqued. I completely self-studied for my own SAT, and it was difficult at times. Although I had a host of resources, especially Khan Academy, I had nobody who I could turn to for questions, nobody who could offer me advice on parts of the SAT that went beyond just content, like pacing and what order to do the questions in. I had to teach myself all of that. Upon learning about the SAT Bootcamps offered at Schoolhouse, I remember thinking that this was the sort of support I would have loved to have while I was studying for my own SAT. So, I figured, why not? I'd get the chance to help people like I wished I'd been helped, and I had nothing to lose. I was incredibly nervous for my first session. I've always been an extremely shy person, and I had zero prior tutoring experience - what if I wasn't a good tutor? What if I let my learners down? But, as the sessions went on, I grew more comfortable, more confident. My learners were understanding what I was teaching them; I was doing okay, at the very least. I stopped fearing how to tutor. Watching my learners grow more comfortable as well, watching them answer questions correctly or have the bravery to admit that they didn't know the answer - it always made me smile. Watching their practice test scores tick up as the bootcamp went on made me so incredibly proud. I didn't even know them, but they were putting in the work, actively participating, and improving as a result. Words cannot describe how proud I was to see that. Schoolhouse has given me the opportunity to help others, utilizing my own strengths. It has given me the opportunity to make a difference - a real, valuable difference, no matter how small. I can help people just like myself, caught in the highs and lows of school, just trying to do their best. I can be part of the reason for someone's smile, as they fall back in their chair and just stare at their SAT score - just like I did, when I saw my own score. I can be part of the reason somebody gets their dream score, somebody gets a scholarship, somebody gets admitted to their dream college, somebody falls in love with a subject. I've always wanted to help people, and now I can, on a far larger scale than I was ever able to before. And that - that means the world to me.

The Non-judgemental Uplifting Space of Schoolhouse

Mar 5, 2024

Late 2021, I was kind of lost with the pandemic, political issues of my country and schools closing down. I had just finished 7th grade. I was trying to gain knowledge on my own while staying at home. Using Khan Academy, i was learning math, science ,coding, etc. It provided me with huge help with the premade videos and quizzes. Obviously, I was bored not being able to go to school. One day, I just sat with my laptop and was searching whatever popped up in my mind where I found the amazing schoolhouse. At first, I was in absolute shock that such platform even existed when I found out that I can join zoom sessions. I quickly signed up and toured through the website. I joined my first ever session and since I have never in my life learned something in english face to face with a tutor, It took me a while to actually start speaking in sessions. For that, I am eternally grateful for the amazing tutors and the warm space that schoolhouse provided for me. One thing I love about schoolhouse is no one here will judge you for not knowing something. Everyone is a learner and a tutor. With all the amazing help, for the first time in my life, I overcame something I never thought I would, which was joining an MUN session. Even tho it was just a mock MUN, It was way out of my comfort zone but was such an amazing experience trying to get out of it and I learned amazing new things from it. I fell in love with schoolhouse and started joining more sessions. At that time, i would have never thought that I would even imagine applying to be a tutor. I thought I won't be able to but I finally did at the end of 2023. Even tho I have no hosted any sessions yet because of a lot of reasons, it is definitely one of my 2024 goals to try hosting a session as a new tutor. Currently, I volunteer helping people through comments when I can. If there is one thing schoolhouse has taught me, it is to never underestimate the skills that I have and how great of a help it can be to others. Nor to overestimate your skills because all the amazing people at schoolhouse will humble you. Overall, schoolhouse has become a big part of my life, made me become more confident in myself, helps unimaginably with my school works and always provide with interactive and fun space.

Language is not a big factor!!!

Feb 16, 2024

As a learner from Bangladesh, I joined SHW in April, from that time every session I attend was math from a long ago I faced a lot of problems in math. SHW tutors basically follow the international language its normal for every international platform, but it was very first me learning math in other language. I was confused and nervous, but I won that fear because the whole worldwide math has an equal balance. So, from that time and so far, until now I am teaching and learning math in English. Math has a language which every people from various country understands and thanks to SHW to make this journey better.

Falling in Love With Education

Jan 4, 2024

I first joined Schoolhouse as an SAT Bootcamp tutor. When I received an invitation, I was interested in the idea of fully online volunteer tutoring and figured that I might as well try. After my first session, I immediately fell in love with both teaching and education as a whole. I was amazed by the bravery that my learners possessed to meet with me, at the time a stranger, to grow academically. I found myself losing any fear I had of teaching as the session progressed, and it made me so excited when one of them would correctly answer a question about a concept I taught. I wasn't sure why I was so happy at first, but after the series ended it clicked: My tutoring specifically was making a visible difference. After hosting several more sessions, I began to realize that teaching wasn't the only thing I loved about these sessions. I loved the exposure to diverse interests and personalities, I cherished the little notes of feedback my learners wrote to me, both positive and negative, and I adored preparing for my sessions and both reviewing the material myself and learning new information while I prepared. The constant growth on both ends, the varied interactions with my learners, and the desire to contribute as much as possible to a session, THIS is what is special about education as a whole, and I loved every second of it. I continued to branch out at Schoolhouse: I tutored a greater variety of subjects, joined several teams, and began leading a team of my own. However, this did not deter my newfound love for education; it fostered it. Education is not just limited to academic learning; rather, we can learn through new experiences, through observing and working with others, and through the desire to make change, be it personal or external. Through Schoolhouse, I fell in love with every aspect of education, and I cannot be more grateful that it happened.

Best SAT Tutors Ever!

Dec 22, 2023

I want to take this moment to give a simple shoutout to my tutor Mary! She was the best tutor every! I love her classes, because they helped me a lot! I also want to give another shoutout to Preethi, my first tutor! Hello, my name is Vivian. I am from China, and my first language is not english. Learning english is hard enough for me. I endured many hardships before shaping my accent, and speaking fluently. Acing the SAT is a nightmare when I've not yet been on SHW, and met these awesome tutors. I am so grateful that I've met Mary and Preethi, who are both great tutors! Best wishes to you two, and Merry Christmas!!!

Unmatched Enthusiasm

Nov 25, 2023

When I schedule a session on a topic that I am proficient in, a learner can expect to be met with enthusiasm when they join a session with me. One day, while tutoring a session in Python, I realized that I enjoy the curiosity that the learners bring to a session. One may assume that something without any cost has less value than something that does, but Schoolhouse has shown me that value actually lies in perspective. The learners who join my sessions have a big passion for learning and applying the knowledge that I teach, and I think that is such a beautiful thing to experience as a tutor.

Catch 22 - A cycle that helps both tutors and learners!

Nov 17, 2023

Hi! I am Sri, and I am studying in the IB curriculum (as a DP1 student). I take Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Maths and European Languages. I came across Schoolhouse.world in hopes to find communities where I can tutor as a volunteer, in order to help out learners! From the SHW experience, teaching is much like a catch 22 cycle - Learners benefit from new material, but I also benefit from teaching the material - as a revision for my exams in 2025! This really is the best way that benefits both tutors and learners! Thank you so much SHW for organizing such a wonderful community! :)

Learning from Each Other

Aug 29, 2023

I still remember the months leading up to my SAT: weeks reviewing key concepts after school, cramming random study sessions, while the weekends were spent on practice tests and reviewing those mistakes (fun times). While all that preparation was instrumental in helping me achieve a score close to my goal, looking back made me realize the key thing I was missing in those times - motivation. Specifically from others going through the same journey as me. That's why I joined as a tutor on SchoolHouse; I wanted to create a space where learners could practice and prepare together, while also giving them advice as someone who'd just recently been in their shoes - and I'm so glad I did! I got to meet amazing learners who had their own strengths and approaches to the test, giving me fresh perspectives on how to tackle questions and prepare more effectively. They provided amazing feedback, actively engaged in every session, and gave me a space to practice my communication skills (still a work in progress)! I highly recommend others to try tutoring on SchoolHouse too - not just for the volunteer hours (a great bonus), but also for the skills you learn and the experience you can apply in your future careers and projects. Because this was a space where we learned from each other. Together.

SHW: My experience from a learner to a tutor

Jul 28, 2023

We all started as learners. We joined sessions, explored the platform, and joined many series. And then, we became tutors. We started teaching others and sharing our knowledge with people all over the world. Literally. This is my experience starting from a learner, to where I am now. I still remember the day I hosted my first ever session on schoolhouse. It was on percentages, the only topic I was certified in at that time. I remember feeling so nervous, and almost wanting to delete the session when I saw that a learner joined. I wasn't expecting that. I practiced and practiced and practiced, making sure I knew what I was going to say. My sister was right in front of me when I started the session. The learner joined soon after, and I started teaching. At first, I would mix up my words and forget what I was saying, but slowly, I started to get a hang of it. I stopped trembling and started to sort of enjoy it. After the session ended, the first thing I did was go to the feedback page and waited until finally, it came. I was ecstatic to find positive feedback from what I thought was not a very good session. The second time I hosted a session, I remember hoping that no one joined but to my surprise, and dismay, someone did join. Two. It went so much better, I felt more confident in my teaching, and I was so happy to see two more positive feedbacks. I wish I could say that all my fear of tutoring left me after that session, but ... well, It was after at least seven sessions that I felt fully confident. Now, I host regular sessions for live help, pre-algebra sessions, and fun enrichment series like writing competitions and interactive Game nights. I have over 70 positive ratings and have hosted 61 sessions. To any new tutor out there, let me just say, it gets better.

My Experience with Schoolhouse.world: Unlocking a World of Learning

Jun 3, 2023

Education is the cornerstone of personal growth and development. It equips us with knowledge, skills, and the confidence to navigate the world around us. However, not everyone has equal access to quality education or the resources needed to excel academically. That's where Schoolhouse.world comes in—a revolutionary online learning platform that connects learners with volunteers from around the globe. As a student with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to excel, I stumbled upon Schoolhouse.world while searching for additional support in my studies. Little did I know that this platform would transform my learning experience and open up a world of opportunities. The concept behind Schoolhouse.world is simple yet powerful. It leverages the expertise and passion of volunteers to provide free, one-on-one tutoring in various subjects to students who need extra help. The platform was founded by Sal Khan, the visionary educator who also created Khan Academy, another popular online learning platform. Getting started with Schoolhouse.world was effortless. I created an account, filled out a profile, and selected the subject I needed assistance with—mathematics. The platform's intuitive interface made it easy to navigate, and within minutes, I was connected with a volunteer tutor who specialized in the topic. My first session with my tutor was eye-opening. Not only was she highly knowledgeable, but she was also incredibly patient and skilled at breaking down complex concepts into digestible pieces. Unlike in a traditional classroom setting, where time constraints and distractions can hinder personalized attention, Schoolhouse.world allowed me to receive individualized support tailored to my specific learning needs. What sets Schoolhouse.world apart is its emphasis on fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Tutors are not just experts in their respective subjects; they are passionate individuals dedicated to empowering students and instilling a love for learning. The tutors I worked with were not only knowledgeable but also excellent communicators who made me feel comfortable asking questions and seeking clarification. Another aspect that impressed me was the platform's commitment to collaboration. In addition to one-on-one tutoring sessions, Schoolhouse.world hosts virtual group study sessions where students can learn from each other, solve problems together, and foster a sense of community. These study sessions encouraged collaboration and helped me develop valuable teamwork and communication skills. Beyond the academic support, Schoolhouse.world provided me with a sense of connection and belonging. It's a global community of learners and educators coming together with a shared goal of empowering students. The platform's user-friendly interface, real-time chat features, and interactive whiteboard tools facilitated seamless communication and engagement. My experience with Schoolhouse.world has been transformative. Not only did it enhance my understanding of challenging subjects, but it also instilled in me a love for learning and a desire to give back. Inspired by the volunteers who dedicated their time and expertise, I, too, decided to become a tutor on the platform, helping other students who may be struggling with the same subjects I once struggled with. Schoolhouse.world is more than just a learning platform; it's a movement that seeks to bridge educational gaps and empower students worldwide. It has provided me with the support, resources, and connections that have transformed my educational journey. If you're a student seeking additional academic support or a passionate individual looking to make a difference, I highly recommend Schoolhouse.world. It's a place where knowledge knows no boundaries, and the possibilities for growth are endless. Embrace the opportunity to learn, connect, and unlock your full potential with Schoolhouse.world.

Streamlining Spontaneous Learning

May 31, 2023

Everyone has had this moment: you're sitting in class, and the teacher hands out the assignment and goes back to their desk. Someone at your table whispers, "I wonder if...", and before you know it, the entire classroom is buzzing with discussion about right triangles, acute angles, and perpendicular bisectors. But then- it stops. The classroom is silenced, sent back to work. The key to replicating these moments lies in understanding why they happen. I believe it comes down to friendship. When you are with your friends, people just like you, the barriers to communication dissolve instantly. The moment from the classroom, where suddenly everyone has an idea they must share - that is the power of friendship combined with learning. In the seven months I've spent with Schoolhouse, I learned a very important lesson: I am not just your tutor - I am your friend. I relate to you, I get you, because I'm your peer. I'm a student just like you are, just like all the other amazing tutors helping others on Schoolhouse. This is the true power of Schoolhouse; emphasizing humanity and friendship to enable learning.

The benefits of tutoring!

Apr 11, 2023

I've been tutoring on Schoolhouse for about two months now, and I have to say it has changed me for the better in numerous ways. Through tutoring, I have gained confidence, courage in myself, and leadership skills. I was also able to get over my longtime fear of public speaking. On the whole, I benefitted from tutoring in unimaginable ways and genuinely enjoy my SAT tutoring sessions, and will continue to tutor with Schoolhouse in the future.

My Journey with Schoolhouse.world

May 3, 2025

Schoolhouse.world has been a meaningful part of my growth, both personally and academically. What started as a way to support students soon became a platform where I developed real skills like communication, leadership, and cultural awareness. Through tutoring and volunteering, I’ve connected with learners from across the globe, shared what I know, and learnt just as much in return. Schoolhouse has shown me that learning isn’t just about textbooks; it’s about connection, curiosity, and community. It’s a space where everyone, no matter where they’re from, can grow together. I’m truly proud to be part of something that’s helping make free, quality education more accessible around the world.

"The Great Mute Mystery"

Apr 22, 2025

So, during the peak of online learning, I was tutoring a sixth grader named Jordan—super bright, but easily distracted. One day, we were deep into a math session, working on fractions. I asked him a question and waited. And waited. Nothing. His camera was on, and I could see him clearly nodding, talking, moving his hands... but I couldn’t hear a word. “Jordan, I think you're muted,” I said. He paused, looked at his screen, and exaggeratedly pointed to his mouth. “I’m not!”—I could read his lips. I tried everything. Volume, settings, logging in and out. Ten whole minutes of silence. Finally, I typed in the chat: “Try unplugging your headphones and plugging them back in.” He gave a thumbs up, leaned toward the screen... and that’s when I heard the loudest crunch. He was eating chips. Not muted. Just enjoying a snack mid-math. “Jordan!” I laughed. “You weren’t muted, you were just chewing too loud to hear anything!” He burst out laughing, mouth full of chips. We never got through all the fractions that day, but we definitely learned something: always check your snacks before your settings.

Beyond the Score: How Learning Led to Teaching

Mar 12, 2025

When I first started preparing for the SAT, English felt like my biggest obstacle. Reading passages were confusing, grammar rules seemed endless, and no matter how many practice tests I took, my scores weren’t improving the way I wanted them to. I knew I needed help, so I turned to Schoolhouse. At first, I was just another student in SAT prep sessions, trying to absorb as much as I could. My tutors didn’t just give me answers—they explained strategies, broke down difficult passages, and taught me how to approach questions logically. Little by little, things started making sense. My reading comprehension improved, and I finally understood how to tackle tricky grammar questions. My scores began to rise, but more importantly, I gained confidence. Then, something shifted. I realized that I wasn’t just learning anymore—I was helping others. In study groups, I found myself explaining grammar rules or sharing reading strategies that had worked for me. That’s when it hit me: maybe I could tutor too. At first, I was hesitant. Who was I to teach SAT English when I had struggled with it myself? But I remembered how my tutors had once been in my place and still helped me succeed. I decided to take the leap, and once I started tutoring, I realized how rewarding it was. Seeing students have their own “aha” moments and watching their confidence grow reminded me of my own journey. Now, as a tutor, I get to give back to the same community that helped me. The SAT, which once felt like an impossible challenge, became something I could help others master. Schoolhouse didn’t just help me improve my score—it gave me the skills and confidence to help others do the same.

Ever since god knows when, I have wanted to teach. For the past 7 (almost 8 now) years, I have taught privately in person but when I discovered Schoolhouse, I was like "Look at that. Now I can finally leave my impact on people worldwide!" and that is what I have been committed to doing. It's been a year here and I just love this community a lot. I have taught many rather interesting people here and it is just an enjoyment to see them learn and grow!

Tutoring is more than just teaching !!

Oct 14, 2024

Tutoring is more than just teaching—it’s about empowering others and building confidence. Schoolhouse has provided an amazing platform to learn and grow, not just for students but for me as a tutor. When I see a student’s "aha" moment, I know I’m making a difference. Each student brings unique challenges, which pushes me to adapt, learn, and grow. At Schoolhouse, the diversity of students from different cultures and backgrounds enriches every session. Tutoring also allows me to live my belief of giving back to society through education. It’s not just about academic success; it’s about inspiring others to reach their full potential, while I continue to evolve as both a teacher and a learner.

When I joined the Schoolhouse community in March 2024, I was thrilled to discover that all the tutors on this platform were just like me: they were all students! To be honest, I never thought that I would get to the point where I would be tutoring others in various subjects. Being a tutor has taught me self-confidence and has helped me to explain my ideas in a coherent manner. I hope that others on this platform can discover the immense joy of the gift that keeps on giving: education. Thank you Schoolhouse for providing me with the ability to impact the lives of others through the indubitable power of learning :)

Why I Joined Schoolhouse

Aug 20, 2024

To be completely honest, I first joined Schoolhouse only to get volunteer hours and buff up my college application. However, I found that teaching what I was passionate about - history - was something genuinely enjoyable and productive for me to do, and I was also able to find helpful resources here on areas I was weaker at (STEM) that allowed me to improve as a learner. I think that Schoolhouse is super clever and well-managed, and I'm super grateful that I was able to find this platform and be a part of both the tutor and student community.

The Learner behind the Tutor

Aug 1, 2024

I joined Schoolhouse in June as a tutor. I took the dSAT twice and scored good on the math section but I wasn't as satisfied with my reading score. On Schoolhouse, I've helped students get better at various math domains and have given them the strategies that I used to get a good score on Math. But on the other hand, through the excellent R&W tutors, I've started feeling more confident in my R&W skills. To sum it up, in the span of a month, I've tutored and been tutored and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The Wonders of Teaching

Jun 15, 2024

Teaching something is the true way of mastering it. I had taken a few SATs before June 1, with my highest score being a 1490. I then decided to host an SAT Reading and Writing Bootcamp to help others improve their scores, and to master some of the concepts myself. This must have worked, because the next time I took the SAT, I scored a 1540. I attribute this completely to the lessons I learnt tutoring here on Schoolhouse. It is a truly magical experience!

Learn With Confidence

May 16, 2024

Are you afraid of making mistakes while learning? It's okay on Schoolhouse! As some people say and I quote, "You can't learn without mistakes." This is my version of the quote. Once you make a mistake, your brain tries to remember how that happened and then it does its best to avoid doing it again. And doing that on Schoolhouse is awesome! I am a tutor and a learner here on Schoolhouse, and I have fun every time I'm learning or tutoring because we always make mistakes and we learn from them. Gaining Wisdom / Knowledge

Mar 18, 2024

High school has been tough for me, especially now that I'm in 11th grade and have so many state and school exams. Before I found out about Schoolhouse, I struggled with understanding most of what I was learning at school. I always asked myself, "Do I really need to take a math or science class? What will I use it for in the future? Why is it so important to study things that won't help me in my future?" It turns out that I do need to use math and science in the future. Time is math. Understanding how humans behave is a type of science. I found out about Schoolhouse through Khan Academy. Ever since then, I have come to realize that with all the knowledge I could gain inside and outside of school, I could share it with others who crave and want knowledge. I enjoy using Schoolhouse because it not only helps me, but it also allows me to help others. With all out knowledge combined, we will make a great team! -Thank you!

School House Experience

Mar 9, 2024

I was really nervous about the SAT and my sister was looking for online help and found schoolhouse. the surprising part was that it was free. The tutors were very respectful and very kind. I loved how we discussed our answers and got to hear everyone thoughts on how they solved the answer. I think there should be more students than 10, so we have more ideas and many different explanations from different students.

The Enlightened Journey: A Tale of Passion for Learning and Teaching

Feb 29, 2024

In late November of 2023, while procrastinating and surfing the web, I stumbled upon Schoolhouse World. My aim was to find a website that would provide a free tutoring service to help me improve my knowledge of biology and math. And that's where my journey began. Ever since my dad introduced me to the concept of a streak in third grade, I've been using Khan Academy every day. I fell in love with the platform and was pleased to discover that its founder, Sal Khan, had created a new platform called Schoolhouse World. As I set up my account and started interacting with the platform, I felt something special inside me. I decided to join subworlds and interact with tutors and other users on the platform. It was then that I met some of the smartest and kindest people I've ever encountered. I was amazed at the quality of the tutors, who were among the best I've ever met. As I started making friends on Schoolhouse World, I became more involved in the platform. I began hosting my own speech and debate sessions and even attended my first Model UN, where I placed second in my committee. During this time, I made connections with people who challenged me to be the best version of myself. My current math tutor is one of them. I started with a negative outlook on geometry, thinking it would never be for me. However, my tutor made it fun and engaging, and I now attend every Saturday for a math session. If you're looking to learn more about a specific topic or concept, improve your grades, or even meet new friends who push you to be the best version of yourself, I highly recommend joining Schoolhouse World.

Don’t give up on what you love

Jan 31, 2024

I first joined Schoolhouse in May of 2021. When I first heard SHW, it was when I found out on social media. When I went in depth with scrolling in social media, it was during the pandemic. One day I was scrolling and I bumped into this one ad that is free live Zoom tutoring. My mind went blank and I was so shocked saying “There is free live Zoom tutoring. Really? There is no way tutoring is free online.” I didn’t believe that was ever existed and I thought it was a scam at any point. Eventually, I decided to search the website itself and unfortunately, I didn’t get what I wanted. What I mean by that is that I know the first few letters, but not all the letters surprisingly. However, unfortunately, I didn’t see the ad again and I was so devastated. What I mean by devastated, I mean that I went through the process of depression. However, after a few days, I meant to find the ad again. Finding the ad again, I was so happy and I jumped up and down over and over again. After I found the ad, I eventually searched and got the website itself. The first thing that I did on the schoolhouse website was sign up and register for a session. I didn’t know how to register for a session due to me on a new platform and overthinking decisions. Eventually, I learned how to register a session by clicking the register button and join the session. My first schoolhouse session was probably the most intimidating ever because I thought that the tutor would not like me at all and I thought that I wouldn’t be able to follow up on what we had learned that day. Turns out, the first session tends to be the best session ever because the tutor was so nice and so helpful in any way possible. The tutor was so patient and helped me whenever I got an answer wrong. After the session, I found out about the rating which is so cool and so interactive at the same time. I was a learner for 5 months during the process without ever thinking of becoming a tutor in the first place. My first impression of that is that “Oh no! I probably do not qualify enough to become a tutor due to my focus on school and maybe it wouldn’t be right for me to fully commit to tutoring whatsoever. However, one tutor has inspired me to become a tutor because a tutor gets freedom in some way and you could host anything that you want to choose. I was so indecisive about whether or not I would want to become a tutor, but at the end of the day, you just have to go for it and believe that you could do it. Then, I decided to fill out a tutor application. During the tutor application process, I was so nervous, but also confident at the same time. However, after the tutor application, I decided to think that maybe I wouldn’t get in due to experience in stuff. When I finished my shower, I got an email saying my tutor application was approved and I was so excited for the whole night. After joining Slack, I met my onboarding buddy name Lakshana M. Lakshana M. is probably one of the onboarding buddies that I will forever be grateful for. She helped me on my first session and she gave me valuable tips on what to know for future sessions. Even though she isn’t here anymore, I appreciate it as an onboarding buddy and as a friend. Always wish her the best always and forever. Lastly, my journey in SHW has been fun and bittersweet. Thank you Schoolhouse for always being there for me whenever I need it. Even though there was a struggle to find the website in the first place, I am happy that it became the person I am today and also have everlasting friendships at the same time. Without you guys, I would have never known that free live Zoom tutoring existed and I wouldn’t have met people around the world. The moral lesson of this story is don’t give up what you’re looking for because eventually you will get there and you will feel accomplished after finding the thing you’re looking for. Schoolhouse helped me through that every step of the way and I’m grateful to have been part of this journey in the first place. Can’t wait what the future holds at SHW.

Love of Teaching

Nov 23, 2023

I have always had a love of learning. Ever since my mother taught me to read (at the age of 2 or 3!), I have sought out knowledge and skill. As a homeschool parent, my mom has continued to let me study what I want when I want, no matter how eclectic or high-level the subject. And as she shared this learning with me, I began to share it with others. When I was younger, I used to make worksheets for my friends and family to practice logarithms just because this concept made me excited and I wanted to share it. I began studying for the SAT probably as soon as I became a teenager and was thrilled by my practice test scores. Then I learned of the possibility of Dual Enrollment at the local Community College and it was time to take the test for real. It was my SAT score that caused me to receive an invitation to tutor on Schoolhouse. Unlike the brilliant Liya D, I was a tutor from the very beginning. I started with a math bootcamp. I was nervous and excited and felt that I was constantly doing something wrong. The very first contact my learners had with me was a series of my typos in the group chat. I kept forgetting pieces of the agenda. But I got good feedback and enjoyed myself and was ready to keep pushing forward. I am now on my 6th bootcamp, have given multiple Live Helps, and have even taught my own SAT prep classes. And despite a few bad ratings and some occasional stressful moments, I have loved it all the way. When I explain something in a way that really resonates with a learner, I feel so heartened by that excitement on their face. I love the feeling that I am in control of my knowledge, in control of the situation, and ready to help others no matter what. Between my work on Schoolhouse and my part-time job as a karate teacher, the opportunities of the past year have taught me how much I enjoy teaching. I am an aspiring doctor, and when I think of my dream job, I often imagine myself at a med school or teaching hospital guiding others. Without Schoolhouse, I might never have fully understood this passion of mine. Homeschooling has been overwhelmingly positive for me, but it can make me feel a little isolated. A small social circle is really good for me in that I tend to form deep connections with my close friends, but a few more acquaintances certainly wouldn't hurt. And Schoolhouse has provided me with the opportunity I need to meet new learners and tutors in a friendly environment. I am first-and-foremost a tutor on Schoolhouse and love learning about my learners, but I have also attended many of the amazing community events here such as the MUN and World Fair. These events have given me some of my happiest recent memories and valuable new friendships. I can't wait to keep teaching, learning, and meeting new people on Schoolhouse and beyond!

Friendship

Oct 19, 2023

I have been a homeschooler from birth, I have no idea what an actual school looks like. I am very thankful that my parents made this decision but different feelings began to stir after I turned fifteen; I need study partners. Things became hard for me after May 2023, when my best and only friends left our city and went to the Netherlands for their summer vacation, I was so lonely for a while that I thought I had depression. Finally, my family took a summer vacation too, and I momentarily forgot about the loneliness. After returning home, the feeling returned; I became restless and needed something to do. I suddenly remembered that I had a schoolhouse account, so I took a look and fell in love with it. It is the most fantastic thing that ever happened to me! From all my experiences at SHW, I treasured friendship the most. I came just in time for the World Fair, and by that, I met great people! I enjoyed so much learning about other's backgrounds and sharing mine. I know maybe until I go to college I will not be lonely. Thank you Schoolhouse!

My Experience with SHW SAT Prep!

Aug 25, 2023

I really appreciated how the tutors explained everything in detail and were patient with me when I did not understand something. They tried their best to make the class fun and interactive as possible and it was sucessful. The tips they gave were amazing as well and I think even paid classes could not give me the tips they gave me. I have tried paid classes but I felt that this was better in a way because I was learning from people who had experience with the SAT. All in all I highly reccomend this series.

I was initially worried because the only time I could host it was at 1 pm and I didn't know if learners would be able to join with their school schedules. I was pleasantly surprised to see my Bootcamp fill up! As a group, we figured out that we had learners living in four different countries and that everyone was living in a different time zone. We were able to form irreplaceable connections and learn much more about the world!

The SchoolHouse Odyssey

May 26, 2023

From School to House, and from House to School. This is the routine for most students across the world. They begin the day at home, go to school, and come back. The nature of reality is that the spheres of learning and comfort are divided, with school being the primary place where learning occurs. However, this platform changes that reality - for good. SchoolHouse is a community that's based on the principle that these two spheres don't have to be separate, and learning can happen from anywhere at anytime. I strongly identified with this mission because I believe education is a right and not a privilege. So, as I began tutoring, not only did I feel a sense of empowerment helping learners from multiple countries, but I also improved in the way I communicate with others, which previously was a big struggle for me as an individual. Throughout history, much has changed. Technology, ideas, and theories have all undergone change. However, education and specifically the model of the classroom has not changed in centuries. With SchoolHouse, I'm excited to see how education will advance moving forward. Not just as a tutor, but also as a learner.

Apr 11, 2023

Schoolhouse has given me the ability to connect with so many people I would have otherwise never encountered, it has provided me with an amazing community to meet new people and share my love for math. Schoolhouse has given me a platform to help people learn new concepts and feel more confident in their mathematical abilities; it is always so rewarding when I hear that a session has helped someone prepare for a test or learn a new skill. I have also been able to grow more confident in my own math abilities because of Schoolhouse and teaching others has only made me more passionate about math.

Schoolhouse.world has provided me the opportunity to express my passion for mathematics

Mar 29, 2023

Dear Schoolhouse.world Team, I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible impact that your platform has had on my life. As someone who has always had a passion for mathematics, I have struggled to find the resources and support that I needed to truly excel in this field. However, since discovering Schoolhouse.world, my experience has been nothing short of transformative. From the moment I first logged onto the platform, I was struck by the warmth and expertise of the volunteers who make it all possible. Whether I was struggling with a particularly difficult problem set or simply looking for guidance on how to approach a new concept, I always felt that I had a supportive community behind me that was genuinely invested in my success. What truly sets Schoolhouse.world apart, though, is the way that it has enabled me to express my passion for mathematics in new and exciting ways. Through the platform's virtual classrooms and one-on-one tutoring sessions, I have been able to connect with experts from around the world who share my love for this subject. Together, we have explored challenging topics, grappled with complex equations, and pushed each other to reach new heights of understanding and achievement. Perhaps most importantly, though, Schoolhouse.world has given me a sense of purpose and belonging that I have never before experienced. Through my interactions with other students and volunteers on the platform, I have come to realize that mathematics is not just a subject that I am interested in, but a community that I am a part of. This realization has been a powerful source of motivation and inspiration for me, driving me to continue pursuing my passions and pushing myself to new heights of achievement. In short, I cannot overstate the impact that Schoolhouse.world has had on my life. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of the volunteers who make this platform possible, as well as the broader Schoolhouse.world community for their unwavering support and encouragement. I am truly honored to be a part of this incredible community, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow alongside all of you. With deepest gratitude, Vedh K

More Than Just Learning: Finding Home at Schoolhouse

Feb 12, 2025

I am a homeschooled student from Myanmar, and for most of my life, my world was small—just me, my books, and the four walls of my room. Connecting with others beyond my family felt impossible, and honestly, I never thought I was missing out on much. But everything changed in April of last year when I joined Schoolhouse.world. At first, it was just another learning platform. Little did I know, it would become so much more—a place where I found not only knowledge but also friendships, encouragement, and a sense of belonging I never knew I needed. Schoolhouse became my safe zone. It gave me a space to grow, to speak, to laugh, and most importantly, to connect. I met people who left a mark on my heart: 🌟 Tasheen U – My favorite tutor, my biggest supporter, the person who helped me achieve a perfect SAT Math score. I wouldn’t have made it without you. 🌟 My SAT tutors – Litisha B, Dickinson T, Bryan E, Seth P, Srish P, Isaac H, Helena C, Helena H, Isha B, Ria D. Each of you played a part in my journey, and I am forever grateful. 🌟 Priyanshu K – My best buddy, the one who made this journey even more special. Before Schoolhouse, my life was simple: eat, sleep, study—repeat. Now, each day holds meaning. Even on difficult days, this community never fails to put a smile on my face. I cherish every moment, every conversation, every late-night study session. These memories are golden hours, ones I will hold onto even as they start to fade. And while life moves forward, I hope—just maybe—our paths will cross again someday. To everyone who has been a part of my journey, thank you. You’ve changed my life in ways I never expected.

An amazing platform

Dec 30, 2024

Hello everyone. I am Jasurbek from Uzbekistan. I was truly happy as a teacher when I came across this website and its opportunities for learners from different geographical locations. Because unless I found this platform, I would not have reached my full potential as an English tutor. As a learner, this website helped me learn something new from various teachers and build discipline in my academic life. Additionally, as a teacher, I can solidify my knowledge and skills by organizing lessons and taking various tests. So, I want to say thank you to the founders of this amazing platform

The Schoolhouse Revolution

Oct 11, 2024

A few months back, I was struggling with the exercises in Khan Academy. I felt that my questions in the discussion page were never answered quickly enough. The white pages with comments, answers, and questions were filled with a distance that could not be bridged. I felt disconnected from the other users. Then one day, I found Schoolhouse on the internet, while searching for various websites to boost my productivity and learning pace. At first, I was scared to join sessions. The idea of speaking in a session or even writing in the chat repelled me and I lost my courage. Eventually, though, I joined the Word of the Day series, which was the first series I joined on Schoolhouse. The tutors were warm and friendly, the learners enthusiastic, and the slides were nothing short of amazing. Eventually, I attended session after session, never missing a class, and my vocabulary grew, as did my passion for learning. Currently, I have joined 50 sessions, and have logged over 1500 minutes of learning, something that I could never have done without Schoolhouse and its wonderful community. Thank you, Schoolhouse.

Schoolhouse: The Heart of Education

Sep 8, 2024

Joining the Schoolhouse platform in May of 2024, I started off as a learner in the SAT Reading & Writing Bootcamp. Increasing my SAT score by about 50 points, it was at that moment I recognized the impact that Schoolhouse tutors can bring to the community. As a result, I decided to become a tutor on the Schoolhouse platform, specifically tutoring in the Enrichment and SAT Prep subworld. As a tutor, I have learned and have continued to practice discipline, responsibility, patience, and empathy. Helping another student reach their "Aha!" moment when it comes to learning is an incredible sense of fulfillment I get to experience with each session I host. On top of that, I get to meet well-rounded, passionate students from all over the world, some from Korea, France, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, and Nigeria, always learning from my students about their background and their life story. I hope to continue my passion for teaching through the Schoolhouse platform, empowering the process of learning to students around the world. Anthony J. D'Angelo once stated: "Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow." Ultimately, it is Schoolhouse which provides individuals of all ages and backgrounds to taste the power of learning.

Why I joined Schoolhouse

Aug 18, 2024

I joined Schoolhouse because it is an amazing opportunity for me to share my SAT knowledge with the other students, to help them get a high score on the test as well. I want to be able to transform my full knowledge to them. This is a way to give back to the community.

Why I joined Shoolhouse?

Jul 30, 2024

I basically joined Schoolhouse to study for DSAT so that I can improve my DSAT score. My first DSAT (April,2024) score was bad which was an 1120 (Eng:480 , math: 640). I have joined two DSAT bootcamps to improve my DSAT score. I'm planning to take my 2nd DSAT in October,2024. Besides the DSAT, I'm also looking forward to volunteering in Schoolhouse to improve my skills as well as getting service hours.

The start of my chance

Jun 5, 2024

This June 1st was not only my first SAT ever but also the outcome of all the experiences I've passed through at Scholhouse since Feb/24. I started from almost zero to prepare for the sat, first with Khan Academy and then schoolhouse as main resources. On the path, I meet such a great tutor as Abdelrahman (serie : CRACK THE DSAT), along with a rich community of students and passionate contributors who, through their creative series, posts, and even questions, have engaged this environment of constant learning. For me, this SAT was the chance to get to know different people with different backgrounds and likes, find cool "series/courses" about the topics I'm interested in, and have the opportunity to do something meaningful with what I already know.

An Opportunity to Make Change

May 13, 2024

I had a learner I reached out to who said she was struggling with turning in assignments for the specific subject, but she wouldn't let me help her. The next day, she told me she was going to delete her account because she didn't like the platform. I told her how to delete her account because she asked, but once again offered to enter a session with her. She agreed and were in a session for 30 minutes working on subject related work. The day after that, she told me she was still going to delete because she was "shy and not smart." Through heavy convincing, I was able to get her to agree to a 90 minute session and taught her core fundamentals in the subject that she had missed. Over the session, I saw so much growth and development in her as a learner. But still, after this, she said she was going to delete, so I told her goodbye. But just an hour later, she returned and said exactly this: "I just wanted to tell u that I am sorry abt how I acted and I want to keep this and get my grades up i love u tutoring me and I hope that u could do It more oftain!!!! thank u so much ur the best tutor!!!" The learner is going on a vacation for two weeks, but after then, we hope to resume working on subject matters. I wanted to say thank you so much Schoolhouse for giving me the opportunity to make a change and impact in someone else's life, and for giving me the chance to make a difference, which really made my day!

Mar 13, 2024

As I have grown into a tutor I have had a lot of help along the journey. I have helped learners grow into the bright minds they are today, and I have met wonderful tutors who were willing to help me grow into the tutor I am today. I have been busy and I love the time I spend here every day it is truly amazing that the founding tutors have been able to build this community from the ground up to the sky. The tutors and learners here are the meaning of "the sky is the limit" A lot of learners come to me and other tutors with the anxiety of failing and they count on us to tutor them, But as the time zones don't match up a lot of times but it is wonderful that all learners feel comfortable with seeking help we also know what it is like to need help in school so we try to explain the subject to the best of our ability, so don't ever contact a tutor with the fear of being turned away we are here to help and we care

Math Bootcamp Helped Me Receive a Scholarship

Dec 26, 2023

Hi! My name is Brooke, and I'm a junior in high school. I've been studying relentlessly for the SAT for the past three years, but I've always struggled with the math section. However, I increased my SAT score a substantial amount when I began attending Schoolhouse's SAT bootcamps. As a result of this score increase, I will now be eligible for a prominent scholarship in my state that will pay for the tuition required to attend college. Ja'Qwan, my SAT tutor for the December SAT, went above and beyond for his students. He created "office hours" outside of the regular meetings so we could come in and ask him questions, and even create his own "linear equations" presentation that he shared with us during office hours to help us better understand specific concepts covered on the SAT. With tutors like Ja'Qwan, Schoolhouse makes learning easy and fun. Overall, I'm so grateful for Schoolhouse and would recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about any STEM-related subjects, and of course, the SAT!

A Passion for Education

Dec 1, 2023

I began tutoring on Schoolhouse when I realized it was created by Sal Khan, who I had always been grateful to for Khan Academy. When I started tutoring my first students, I realized I had a joy for tutoring and helping others. It was a unique but rewarding experience to help strangers understand concepts they had been struggling to "get" for so long, and we could share these moments of triumph together, forming a bond. Of course, with teaching being the best way to enhance one's own knowledge, this was also great for my own understanding of subjects; fresh observations from my tutees could expose me to a new way of looking at things. It was this excitement that hooked me to tutoring; not knowing whether you'll be teaching or getting taught! Overall, after around a year of tutoring on Schoolhouse, I can definitely say it has truly been life changing. From meeting tutees halfway across the world to learning new tricks from them, becoming a tutor here has been one of the best experiences of my life!

How Schoolhouse Taught Me Inculsivity

Nov 22, 2023

Tutoring and being a moderator through Schoolhouse helped me make a difference globally by helping many students from around the world. I’ve tutored students from many countries such as the United States, China, Vietnam, India, and the United Kingdom. Tutoring such a large range of different people and cultures taught me to be inclusive of these varying cultures. It also taught me that we have more in common than we may realize. We are all still humans who can feel frustrated if something is hard for us to grasp. We also all feel accomplished if we finally understand something that was challenging to us. I also noticed that I enjoy similar hobbies to someone who lives in China or Indonesia. Being on Schoolhouse has taught me that even though people may live an ocean apart, we can still connect with each other despite language or cultural differences.

SAT Block: Goodbye, Hesitations

Aug 25, 2023

I'm a senior and I've been studying for the SAT since freshman year. Paid prep didn't work, despite my parents' constant pressure. When junior year finished, I told my parents to save some money and let me try out Khan Academy. I was about a couple hundred questions in when I received an email about free SAT prep in partnership with Khan Academy. I thought to myself, "Heck yeah!" and immediately signed up for a bootcamp series. Since that day, I've been more prepared and devoted to improving my score than the young freshie who didn't know why she was thrusted into SAT prep. I started attending bootcamp with a purpose and I've come a long way--from 600 on the R&W to a 720. My tutor, Anne L, from Maryland, is, honestly, breathtakingly patient, understandable, and informative. I could not have survived August's studying without her and the class. Thank you, SchoolHouse. Good luck on my August SAT tomorrow!

My experience with Schoolhouse and Khan Academy

Jun 2, 2023

Schoolhouse World has helped me appreciate learning and interacting with others more. Their SAT Boot Camps encouraged me to study ahead of time for my exam, which was something I never did before. Practicing with Khan Academy helped me reinforce those topics I once had trouble with, and Schoolhouse's tutors have been an enormous help to me. It was like stepping into a whole new world of learning and exploration. As I entered the virtual classroom, I was greeted by a friendly teacher who was eager to help me learn. The lessons were engaging and interactive, and I found myself enjoying the learning process. But what I loved most about Schoolhouse World was the sense of community. I was able to connect with other students from all around the world, and we worked together to solve problems and complete assignments. Overall, my experience with Schoolhouse World was truly unique. I feel like I learned so much, and I made some great friends along the way. Thank you for providing such an excellent learning environment!

My Story here in SHW

May 3, 2023

I am a user of Khan Academy and got an email to a meeting where Sal Khan introduced SHW as a volunteer run platform. I first started here as a learner in July 2022. But the love of teaching someone took over the wheel and I officially became a certified tutor here in Jan 2023. SHW is an amazing platform where any certified student gets to be a tutor. It has been an amazing journey as I share middle and high school students my knowledge on Math and Biology. I hope to see more curious minds here.

A Leap In Education With The Potential Of Revolutionizing Learning

Apr 30, 2023

I have been a tutor on schoolhouse for upwards of a week now, and have been using the platform for more than a year. Schoolhouse has taken an approach with learning I have never seen before. It's like a decentralized network for learning, where everyone contributes to its growth in some way or the other. I feel proud to be a part of this organization, since I am sure that it will skyrocket in a few years. Providing free global education on almost every topic there is, is something I never thought would be possible. I'm glad the schoolhouse proved me wrong. Generations now and upwards will be very lucky with this, since all you need is internet and a device to learn, making education available even for the weaker sections of society.

What Learners Have To Say About Sessions

Professional young man speaks very good as a teacher, as someone would with a great deal of experience. Vismay P. is very knowledgeable about programming. I would definitely recommend this tutor. Also he shared many recourses that will be very helpful to me in my continued learning. There were 2 people in the class and attention was given to each person fairly so that each person took from the class.
Learner in Vismay P's session

(Parent here) Excellent teaching -- the best tutoring we've seen so far. Very organized, useful time management tips, engaging process of letting kids try the questions on their own then calling on them to explain, and helpful review of key learnings at the end. Thank you!
Learner in Shiva K's session

I don’t know how but your way of explaining complex topics make so much sense to me. I tend to struggle with a lot of topics because I am definitely more of a hands on learner which was difficult in a virtual school setting since I tend to not ask a lot of questions even though I know I should. I really appreciate how attentive you are and if you continue doing topic like tonight’s, I will probably pass the exam because of you :’).
Learner in Karen J's session

Kate was amazing! Before this tutor session, I was completely new to quadratic equations, but she explained at an amazing pace. She was very kind and reassuring. She made the content a lot less intimidating. It surprised me on how much I was able to learn in just 40 minutes, and I feel like I have a good idea of quadratic equations. It was a lot simpler than I thought.
Learner in Kate P's session

I would love more of these types of sessions! They are super helpful and informative. They make me feel more confident as I am preparing to take the test.
Learner in Laura R's session

I'm a foreign student and American math is sometimes hard for me. So my knowledge was at a really low level before the session and it was difficult for me to solve even easy problems. But Shraman did his best to explain everything to me and I know a little bit more. His explanations were really useful for me. Moreover, he even shared with me some resources to broaden my knowledge. Thanks to Shraman, now I know what to do next.
Learner in Shraman K's session

Emma is truly a great tutor! She helped me a lot with the problems. She is also not a native speaker, so it made everything easier for me, because she gets that it may be difficult for foreigners to understand math in a different language. Therefore, she did her best to explain me everything and I'm really grateful for that!
Learner in Emma A's session

Excellent tutor! I would want Ben to be my Calculus teacher. He explained everything in detail, cleared most of my doubts, and not only helped me with my quiz questions, but helped with everyone's questions. For these reasons, he surely deserved my super helpful rating.
Learner in Benjamin J's session

This made me excited to do math! It’s always fun to attend Shadman’s sessions since I always learn something new that I never would’ve known if I haven’t attended. It’s always fun to learn something today that I didn’t know yesterday. I’ve been introduced to a lot of new terms such as the inradius, incircle and the circumcircle. I loved how Shadman started from the very basics and worked his way up making everything easier to understand. It was pretty awesome how we were able to cover a lot in such a small time. I also enjoyed the problems that we covered since you wouldn’t need a calculator to solve. (Sorry I wasn’t able to reply in all of the questions since I was busy taking notes, I promise I was listening the whole time!)
Learner in Shadman S's session

stellar, phenomenal, spectacular, showstopping. 11/10 would recommend! Super kind and helpful, and was able to answer questions not just about the solution to an answer, but also the nitty-gritty of things and why they are the way they are! Also really patient and passionate about math and tutoring!! I came in not expecting much, but I left with a greater appreciation for math. He also promotes learners to take initiative, through practice problems! This was actually my first session ever, so thank you Aayush, you’re on fire and I definitely look up to you, keep doing what you do!!
Learner in Aayush M's session

I’m just sad School House didn’t have the option of Super Duper Helpful, so the best I could go with was just Super Helpful. This tutor was patient, and helped me out all the way to the end. I was probably in the Zoom for like 2 hours, but yet he still proceeded to help me. Even the it was such a hard concept for me to grasp, his amazing explanations understand the question very thoroughly. I am really REALLY thankful that I met him during Live Help. Not only did he impact my learning but he also motivated me to study more math to become as good as him one day. This was truly a great experience for me.

The session was great and had a warm atmosphere. I've been studying for the SAt for a little over a year now and I learnt some key tips today (like the ways to notice emphasis with word choice and punctuation) that I have not seen anywhere before. The word "meticulous" is also going to stick with me for a very long time because of you haha. Thank you!!

I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the exceptional tutoring experience I have had with you at Schoolhouse. Your lessons have been truly amazing and I feel incredibly fortunate to have had you as my tutor. One of the things that stands out the most to me is your interactive approach to teaching. Your ability to engage the students and make the material both interesting and fun has made a huge impact on my understanding and enjoyment of the subject. Your enthusiasm and passion for teaching is contagious and has made me look forward to each and every lesson. In addition, your knowledge and expertise in the subject matter is truly impressive. I feel that you have gone above and beyond in helping me grasp the concepts and I am confident that I will be able to apply this newfound knowledge in my future studies and career. I can say without hesitation that you are one of the best, if not the best, tutors I have ever had. Your commitment to your students' success is truly inspiring and I cannot thank you enough for everything you have done for me. I wish you all the best and I hope our paths cross again in the future. Thank you so much for such an awesome session! You are such an awesome person and it was extremly helpful to have the algebra 1 crash course over the summer. I am going into high school in about a week, and I was stressing out that I wasn't able to get anything more than the algebra foundations certification, so my parents suggested your session. I am so glad to have been in your class. I feel ready to take on the next school year (at least in math.) My uncle used to teach me "advanced" math. I put quotation marks because, while it was at the time, it isn't anymore. He kinda quit about ago year and a half ago, and while I was able to get through integrated math 1 with no issues... (we don't have ap classes, so if we are in advanced math, we just go to the grade above's math class) I was not confident that I could get through IM2 with the same speed. (To clarify, IM is Alg1 and 2, but over 3 years.) Thank you so much for helping me gain back my (how do the cool kids say it? Flow? Swag?) You really should be a teacher; you have the patience for it and you always explain, not only what you are doing, but why you are doing it. Thank you.
