## PGS Journeys

31st session

Hello and welcome to The Journeys of a Tutor, brought to you by the wonderful Personal Goal Setting (PGS) tutors of Schoolhouse! Would you like to learn more math? Gain access to a greater attendance rate? Open the door to more tutoring oppurtunites? If so, then I'd like to offer you a way to acheive all of that and more! It’s a known fact that Pre-Algebra sessions have low learner attendance rates. As a result, Pre-Algebra tutors often schedule sessions, only for nobody to come! In order to address this issue, the Personal Goal Setting (PGS) project is hosting this event to provide you, Pre-Algebra tutors, with all the tools and knowledge you will need to tutor others in Algebra 1. By tutoring Algebra 1 topics, you all as tutors may gain higher attendance rates in your sessions!

If the prospect of an enhanced future interests you, please do join us as we journey together through the world of Algebra 1!

Classes are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11am, 6pm, and 8pm EST. Office hours are Saturdays at 12pm and 6pm EST. This series will last until all of Algebra 1 has been covered and fully understood.

## Algebra I Comprehensive Study

5th session

This is a comprehensive study of Algebra I. We will meet at 6:30 - 8:00 PM CST on Monday - Thursday weekly and cover key Algebra concepts that will help you throughout higher math courses. It will be helpful to students currently in Algebra One for supplementary instruction and making more real-world connections. It is also good for people who want to learn Algebra One for any reason!

This course is not only to help you learn about how to solve equations & problems, but to apply the concepts you learn in a real-world context.

After this course you will be able to:

- Understand expressions, equations & functions.
- Use linear equations & functions
- Use linear inequalities
- Solve & understand systems of linear equations & inequalities
- Understand exponential growth & decay
- Model with linear & exponential relationships.
- Factor quadratic equations.
- Solve quadratic equations
- Use and solve quadratic equations in a real-world scenario.
- Use rational & radical equations.
- Understand the trigonometric ratios (sin, cos, tan) in basics.
- Think critically and apply your knowledge of linear, exponential & quadratic equations into buying a car, or a house renting an apartment, budgeting.
- Understand the world through mathematics.

## Khan Academy Quadratics Bootcamp

Starts

These series will be centered around learning to multiply and factor quadratic expressions. We will follow the Khan Academy curriculum for the Algebra 1 Quadratics unit and aim to achieve mastery in each of the 9 skills.

By the end of this series, you will be able to factor equations such as 48−24x+3x2 and expand expressions like (2+7x)(2−7x)!

## Algebra 1: From the basics to beyond :D

3rd session

This course is meant for Angel N. During each session, I will teach Algebra 1, starting from the basic units and progressing to advanced topics. This course will be based on a curriculum from my district. I took this course during middle school and got an A+ so I hope I can help you excel and learn well!

Units we will cover:

1: Equations and Inequalities 🔢

2: Graphing Linear Functions 📏

3. Writing Linear Functions 📝

4: Linear Systems 🧮

5: Functions 📈

6: Exponential Functions 📐

7: Polynomials 📚

8: Graphing Quadratic Functions 📋

9: Statistics 📊

If you need more sessions/time on certain units and topics let me know!

## Sharmila's Algebra I

8th session

Hi! I'm Sharmila and I look forward to hosting this series where I can go over some Algebra I topics and we'll practice together! My hope is to teach/review topics that are key in Algebra I. We will meet up twice a week (excluding office hours and few exceptions later in January and February) from mid November to mid February. For this series, you must have taken Pre-Algebra.

## Algebra 1 Study Group

5th session

This series will cover the main concepts of Algebra 1! Every week, we'll go through a new Algebra 1 topic. This is a continuation of a past series, but anyone is open to joining. We will be reviewing old topics as well. Sessions will be on Sundays at 5:00 p.m unless the time is changed. Week 1: Intro class + Algebra Foundations (Solving Equations/Inequalities) Week 2: Ratios + Rates Week 3: Linear Equations + Graphs Week 4: Intro to Functions Week 5: Exponents/Radicals/Exponential Growth + decay Week 6: Working with Quadratics (this may take two weeks, depending on how much we need to work with them!) Week 7: Review!
