5 Series

Khan Academy Quadratic Functions and Equations

    Ended Sun, May 29, 2022

What does ax^2 + bx + c mean? Since when does math have more letters than numbers? Why do these letters in particular matter? Join this series where we'll learn and practice the "Quadratic Functions and Equations" unit on Khan Academy! We'll cover the material in the unit and take a unit test together. This series is great for anyone who is in Algebra and needs to work on their quadratics, or if you're going into algebra soon and want to get started sooner. Check out the Khan Academy unit here: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/x2f8bb11595b61c86:quadratic-functions-equations

Probability

Do you ever watch a game like Poker and think “Wow! What are the odds?” Probability is how you can find out those odds! In this session, we’ll be doing a crash course the very basics behind algebraic probability, what it actually means, and how we can find it in basic situations. More specifically, we’ll be defining probability in depth, learning about exclusive and disjoint probabilities are, how to find probabilities of multiple events, and learning very simple Bayesian probability. Hope to see you there!

(Rescheduling of another session) [Python] Okay, so we’ve gone over the basics(variables, math operators, data types) so now it’s time to build on our knowledge. Today, we are going to learn about Booleans and if-else statements. So come! This isn’t necessary, but if you can, have an IDE ready for practice!

Today, we will be scoring and going over the calculator section of the SAT practice test #6! Bring either a printout or pdf form of the test, a bubble sheet, a calculator, and paper/pencil to do the work on!(Please have the test done before the session. We can take it during the session if needed, but I'd rather spend the time better by going over it all). Hello👋 Today’s session is going to be all about lines! That’s right, we’re going to be getting you very comfortable with y=mx+b, a centerpiece of the SAT! Not only will we use the line, but we’ll learn how to find slopes for a line and how to apply lines in the context of the SAT. Just bring something to work the problems out on, and get ready to learn! As I find more outside resources to help you get comfortable with lines, I’ll put them in the discussion for y’all. I hope to see you there! (Also, if you have any SAT questions in general, don’t be come on for just a short time to ask.)
