The Complete ACT Course (part IV: Statistics & Probability)

    Ended Thu, Jun 13, 2024

This course is designed specifically for students planning to take the ACT test and want to work on the math skills they need for it. However, students who need to revise some topics for school or are planning to take the SAT can also benefit from the course. During this course, we meet weekly to discuss all of the important math concepts and strategies you need to do well on the ACT. In every session, we tackle a few topics. We revise them and solve some practice questions. I also answer any math questions you might have throughout the session. I plan to adapt the course and the time allocated to each topic based on the needs of the students. _____________________________________________ The course is divided into parts; each part is placed in its corresponding subworld: 1. Pre-Algebra 2. Algebra 1 3. Geometry 4. Statistics & Probability 5. Algebra 2 6. Pre-calculus _____________________________________________ RESOURCES I USE: -The Ultimate Guide to ACT Math (1 and 2) - The Official ACT Prep Guide 2022-2023 - 500 ACT Math Questions to Know by Test Day, 3rd Edition, Geometry Common Core. - The Official ACT Mathematics Guide (This list is subject to change as I get to learn what the students need more of.) _____________________________________________ FEEDBACK Some of the feedback I got on my previous ACT Math courses: "The practice questions were just what I needed, also the tutor was very engaging." "Very good and thorough explanations." "super organized and good explanations." part of a peer review: "Excellent explanations! You went over each concept in detail and thoroughly explained how to solve the problems. You not only explained how to find the correct answer but also why a certain approach makes sense. "

The Complete ACT Course (part III: Geometry)

    Ended Thu, Apr 11, 2024

This course is designed specifically for students planning to take the ACT test and want to work on the math skills they need for it. However, students who need to revise some topics for school or are planning to take the SAT can also benefit from the course. Over the next few months, we will meet weekly to discuss all of the important math concepts and strategies you need to do well on the ACT. In every session, we will tackle a few topics. We will revise them and solve some practice questions. I will also be taking any math questions you might have throughout the session. I plan to adapt the course and the time allocated to each topic based on the needs of the students. _____________________________________________ The course will be divided into parts; each part will be placed in its corresponding subworld: 1. " _____________________________________________ Note: I already completed parts I (pre-algebra) and II (algebra I) in previous courses. I am sorry for the pause between the previous two courses and this one. I had intended to have No gaps between them, but due to school exams, college applications, and some health issues I face, I found that a small break was necessary. Hopefully, this will not happen again as I plan to start part IV as soon as we complete part III. If anybody would like me to go over some concepts from algebra I or algebra II again, let me know, and I can arrange specific sessions for that.

Comprehensive AP Biology Course

    Ended Fri, Apr 26, 2024

Although AP biology gets a lot of bad press for being one of the most difficult APs or for the low percentage of students who score a 5 on it, you will see that with the right mindset and guidance, it can be pretty fun and not too challenging. Through this course, I hope to help those taking AP biology at school or self-studying it feel sure of themselves and do well on tests as well as te AP exam in May. - Overview - We will meet for an hour or 90 minutes (depending on how long it takes us to cover the material) every two weeks to thoroughly review the different AP Biology units. Each unit will be divided into two sessions. The exceptions are units 6 and 7. Because these two units are long and include a lot of material, I decided to divide each of them into 3 sessions. The sessions will start with a quick review of and/or a question about some of the topics discussed in the previous session(s) followed by a discussion of the concepts and topics in the particular part of the unit assigned for that week. Then, we will do some practice questions (MCQ and FRQ) and a Q&A (questions are also welcome anytime during the session). Advice on how to approach test questions and tips for studying for the AP biology test will be incorporated throughout our sessions. - Qualifications - I self-studied for the AP Biology exam and took it in May 2022. I got a score of 5. I took the AP biology course at my school in 2023 (the year they started offering it). I also taught this same course on Schoolhouse last year. Some of the feedback I received on my course last year: "Ragad had one of the most comprehensive PowerPoint presentations on Schoolhouse that I have ever witnessed." "Lots of good details and explanation with the summary." "Your use of practice problems was awesome." "Thank you for the amazing session! I liked how you interacted with us frequently and got us involved!! :)" - Resources - I will depend on a variety of resources, but the ones I use most heavily are: (Organized from the ones I use most to the ones I use least.) - CliffsNotes AP Biology 2021 Exam (most recent edition) - Campbell, biology in focus 3rd edition - Princeton Review AP Biology Premium Prep 2022, 2023 - 5 Steps to a 5 500 Questions to Know by Test Day Looking forward to teaching all of you!

AP Biology Review Session

Hello all! In this session, we will walk through a practice test because, at this point in the year, practice is the best preparation! You'll be given the chance to solve each question before the answer is revealed. We will discuss the question and the choices. Each question will also offer us the chance to review important concepts in the AP Biology material.

(Qualifications:
I self-studied for the AP Biology exam and took it in May 2022. I got a score of 5. I took the AP biology course at my school in 2023 (the year they started offering it). I also taught a complete AP Biology course on Schoolhouse for two years.)

Review: Unit 1 Chemistry of Life (upon student request)

I have scheduled this session because a student asked for a review of Unit 1, the chemistry of life, but everyone else is also welcome to join! We will go over the ideas in the unit. If we have time, we will do some practice, too! This session will have no effect on the progression of my AP Biology course.

P.S. if you cannot attend this session because of timing issues or if you would like a review of a different unit, you can always contact me, and I will do my best to schedule a session for you!

Unit 4 review - upon student request

I scheduled this session because one of my students requested a review of unit 4, Cell Communication & Cell Cycle, but anybody else who is interested is also welcome to join. For those in my AP Biology series, this session will not have an effect on our progression in the course.

Extra session upon request: AP Bio 7.10-7.13

I arranged this session upon the request of one of the students, but anybody else is welcome to join too. If you are a student in my AP Biology course, then don’t worry that course will not be affected by this session, and we will have a session covering the second part of unit 7 in two weeks as scheduled.

Two-column Geometry Proofs - Practice

(The topic does not exactly match what we will be talking about, but there are very limited options for topic titles.) I told the students who attend my "Introduction to Geometry" course that I will schedule a session outside the course itself, during which we will practice writing simple geometry proofs that involve the theorems we have covered. This is what we will do in this session! Students who have a basic understanding of geometry proofs and would like to solve some practice or ask some questions are also welcome to join.

Continuation of Measuring Segments and Angles

I have delayed the session by half an hour because I had something come up and I might not be free at the original time. I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. This session is for particular for one student who could not attend my session on Thursday and did not want to fall behind in the series, but anybody who would like to join would be welcome. Even though we were supposed to cover proofs in this session, we actually spent it continuing our discussion of the topics we were not able to finish last week. The topics all included measuring segments and angles. We did a bunch of practice as well! Whoever missed the session but would like to know what we covered is welcome to join. We will go over the same things again.

AP Biology

In the first hour or so, we will revise the main concepts of unit one. After that, we will discuss some AP-style practice questions I curated that are related to unit 1. I will be taking questions throughout the session as well as during the Q and A part at the end of the session. Feel free to join at whatever time works for you. (You can join in the second hour if you are looking for practice only).

Beginner Piano Class

This is a beginner piano class. I will start from the very beginning, with the assumption that you have never touched the piano before. We will learn the basics of reading music, and learn to play a simplified version of "Amazing Grace". What do you need? You will need a piano or keyboard. Even if the keyboard does not have all the 88 keys found on a typical piano, it is OK because you are still figuring out whether this is something you want to continue or not, and pianos are often quite expensive. In the case that you don't have any instrument, you can still join to get an introduction to the piano and decide if you want to start learning it. Don't worry about the study materials, I will be providing the book and sheet music. P.S This is the first session I host. You can think of it as a trial. That is why I decided to keep it shorter than an hour. If this ends up being successful I might turn it into a series where we meet weekly (perhaps every sunday).

AP Biology

In this session, I will help get ready for taking AP Biology this year by outlining the structure the of the course, providing useful resources, and giving you advice on how to make the most of this year and, hopefully, get a 5 in May. I will also provide some study plans and address some concerns that those who plan to self-study the course might face. This session can also be helpful if you are trying to decide whether you should take AP biology this year or not. I will also answer any questions you might have to the best of my ability. P.S I self-studied for AP biology last year and got a 5 on the 2022 test.
