Inspired by our internet neighbor, Khan AcademyTutoring Journey from Learner to Tutor and Beyond :)
Aug 9, 2025Hi! My name is Jagad Krishnan, and this is my journey to becoming a senior tutor in the SAT Prep and SAT Bootcamp subworlds. I hope this motivates someone else to become a tutor or helps them understand that anything is possible with a little bit of hard work. I started off as a sophomore struggling to accept the fact that I had gotten a score on the SAT that was lower than what I expected. This caused me a lot of anxiety and stress because I had high expectations for myself. My outlook on life was quite bleak, and it didn’t get any better due to the fact that my friends had started to outscore me as well. Then, by almost lucky coincidence, I found Schoolhouse when I was studying for my next SAT on Khan Academy. I attended a few sessions and found that I really enjoyed being a learner. Even though my Reading and Writing score was low, I had a high enough score in Math to become a Math SAT tutor — but I decided to push myself and insisted that I would become a Reading and Writing tutor. At this point, I have to give a huge shoutout to Nitara S, who was my first tutor on Schoolhouse. She was tranquil, sagacious, and vivacious — qualities that I try to exemplify when I tutor. She lit a spark in me — a drive to learn and one day tutor. Then, through a lot of hard work, I was able to get a higher Reading and Writing score, and as promised, I signed up to become a tutor. Now, I'm a senior tutor in both SAT Bootcamp and SAT Prep, and I host a 35-member series on SAT Prep. So, I want to take this moment to tell everyone: if I (a lazy sophomore) can self-study my way to a high SAT score and end up teaching the very subject that stopped me from getting a 1500 in the first place, then every learner on this platform has the potential to achieve an amazing score they can be proud of — and maybe even become a tutor to pass on what they’ve learned.

My Voice, My Superpower
May 5, 2025I’ve been called many things: chatterbox, motor-mouth, even “the girl who talks more than the announcements.” And while those titles used to embarrass me, I now wear them like a badge of honor. Growing up, I didn’t just *like* talking—I needed it the way fish need water. I asked questions faster than teachers could answer. I narrated my day like a podcast to anyone who’d listen (or couldn’t escape). At first, I thought my talkativeness was just noise—something to tone down, to "fix." But then came eleventh grade, and something changed. During a school debate competition, one of our speakers panicked mid-round. As the room tensed, I did what came naturally: I stood up and started talking—not to show off, but to support. I rephrased her argument gently, steered the discussion back, and even made the judges laugh. We didn’t just finish—we won. Afterwards, the speaker hugged me and said, “You saved me.” That’s when I understood: my voice is more than a habit. It’s a tool. A connection. A way to energize a room, calm a friend, lead a team, or break awkward silences like a pro. Whether I’m emceeing school events, leading club meetings, or tutoring juniors, my ability to communicate clearly—and warmly—has become my biggest strength. In college, I don’t want to “quiet down.” I want to keep learning how to use my voice to empower others, advocate for what matters, and build communities. I believe communication isn’t just about talking—it’s about creating impact. And if I talk a little too much along the way? Well, at least I’ll keep things interesting.

Empowering for Neurosurgery
May 29, 2025Hi! My name is Emily! I am from California and am currently being homeschooled. Last year was my freshman year. I loved it so much, always being the top of the class, best in biology, just overall the highest in my grade. This year has been such a struggle for me. I was barely passing algebra 1 and failing every chemistry test. At this point, I had given up on everything. I no longer had the spark in me for success and I just didn't care anymore. One thing hadn't changed. My goal of becoming a Neurosurgeon. That was when I came across SchoolHouse. I attended session after session and slowly started to get my grades up. I had a large bump in the road due to changing from a home school support program to independent study, then being passed on and on between teachers. After this, I was set on Apex, an online schooling program that SUCKS. I stated struggling again because I missed so many important lessons, but I was lucky enough to have tutors willing to teach me those lessons. Now, I am finishing the year with all As in every class and continuing my duel enrolment for a biology degree, in order to get a scholarship and pursue my dream! Also, to fill in time while I wait, I am starting lifeguarding for the summer and also tutoring biology, algebra 1, AP English, and AP History.

My Journey with Schoolhouse.world
May 3, 2025Schoolhouse.world has been a meaningful part of my growth, both personally and academically. What started as a way to support students soon became a platform where I developed real skills like communication, leadership, and cultural awareness. Through tutoring and volunteering, I’ve connected with learners from across the globe, shared what I know, and learnt just as much in return. Schoolhouse has shown me that learning isn’t just about textbooks; it’s about connection, curiosity, and community. It’s a space where everyone, no matter where they’re from, can grow together. I’m truly proud to be part of something that’s helping make free, quality education more accessible around the world.

🌟 Empowering Others, One Lesson at a Time: Amariee’s Schoolhouse Story
May 27, 2025Hi! I’m Amariee T. Riley, a college honors student, passionate tutor, and dedicated leader from a big, loving family—I’m the oldest of 11 siblings! Outside of school, I work as a dispatcher for a towing company, help manage a tutoring center, and even take care of chickens, a ferret, and a cat. My life is busy, but I’ve always made time for what I care about most: helping others learn and grow. I joined Schoolhouse in 2023 because I believe in free, accessible education. As someone who has tutored Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 for over three years, I wanted to reach more students outside of my local community. Schoolhouse gave me the chance to do that—and more. At first, I just wanted to tutor math, but as I got involved, I discovered how vibrant and supportive the Schoolhouse community really is. I loved the connections I made with learners, the excitement of seeing students finally “get it,” and the trust that came from showing up consistently. That’s when I knew I wanted to do more than just teach—I wanted to lead. Over time, I’ve taken on new challenges, applied to volunteer positions, and brought my leadership from NJHS and my tutoring center into this space. I use visual aids, interactive lessons, and clear, step-by-step problem-solving to build confidence in my students. But more importantly, I strive to make every session a place where learners feel safe, seen, and empowered. Balancing work, school, NJHS responsibilities, tutoring, and family life isn’t always easy. But the sense of purpose I feel at Schoolhouse makes it worth it. Here, I’m not just helping students with math and other subjects—I’m building a community where learning is joyful, inclusive, and meaningful. To anyone thinking about joining Schoolhouse as a learner or tutor: do it! You’ll gain so much more than academic help or teaching experience. You’ll discover a family of people who care deeply about learning and lifting each other up. And to the learners I’ve met along the way—you inspire me every single day. Thank you for trusting me with your questions, your effort, and your growth. The future is bright because of you. — Amariee T. Riley Schoolhouse Tutor | NJHS Secretary | Lifelong Learner

From Small Town Dreams to Global Learning – My Journey with Schoolhouse
May 2, 2025As a student from a small town in Bangladesh, I always dreamed of accessing world-class education but didn’t have the financial means to afford expensive coaching. When I discovered Schoolhouse.world, it felt like a door to the global classroom had opened for me. Through Schoolhouse, I’ve attended live sessions on SAT Math and English that helped me prepare for my upcoming exams. The supportive community and kind coaches made learning enjoyable and stress-free. But more than that, Schoolhouse gave me the confidence to believe in myself.
