Tutor Qualifications
I am a part of my school newspaper, literary magazine, and have 2 years of editing nonfiction writing. I also freelance write & am currently working on publishing a novel.
I found myself through language expression and I hope to bring my interest for the English language to the table when tutoring learners in any level of English (Kindergarten through AP). I am familiar with all the little, annoying quirks that English has, prose vs. poetry, terminology, etymology, and more. Some feedback I've gotten after English sessions include: "I really love your confidence when speaking and teaching. For me, you are a very smart and caring influencer, you know and understand what the learners want and care, I really admire you and hope to learn more from you!"
Writing is a crucial skill to have, regardless of what your career and academic path looks like. I have helped learners expand their skills from stringing a couple sentences together at best to creating purposeful paragraphs, essays, and stories; I’ve been teaching writing of all levels from pre-kindergarten to AP (entry-college level) for 2 years. Some feedback I've received after teaching writing: "This was really great and she provided great feedback towards work!"
Grammar–the most prickly of all aspects in language study, that's what Grammarly is for, right? Sometimes. Grammarly (or anything similar) only gets you so far, you have to carry intent and flow through your writing and speaking to have the best effect. That comes from understanding grammar; it's not just about being accurate, but purposeful. I have worked with both native English speakers and non-native English speakers to allow them to build clear and thoughtful sentences.
