Algebra II: Full Prep

Started

This two-week crash course will summarize the basics of Algebra 2. The information shared in this series will be vital to your understanding of the subject and provide you with a great head start for the coming school year.

At the end of the course, there will be an interactive Unit Test for you to apply your knowledge. There will be daily homework consisting of five questions each, which we will go over at the beginning of every session!

We will be covering the following topics over ten sessions.

  • Exponent Rules
  • Linear Algebra
  • Systems of Equations
  • Quadratic Functions
  • Factoring
  • Function Operations
  • Algebraic Division
  • Rational Functions

If you have any questions prior to the series, don't hesitate to let me know!

Algebra 2 Full Course

Starts

We will cover 11 units of content, each unit building on the last one and helping prepare students for courses such as AP Precalculus, Trigonometry and Calculus.

This course will be about 14-15 weeks, meaning it may go a little into the school year. We will meet Mondays-Fridays everyday for an hour.
  • Unit 1: Functions & Linear Models
  • Unit 2: Polynomials & Radicals
  • Unit 3: Quadratic Functions
  • Unit 4: Polynomial & Radical Functions
  • Unit 5: Rational Functions
  • Unit 6: Exponential & Logarithmic Functions
  • Unit 7: Conic Sections
  • Unit 8: Systems of Equations & Matrices
  • Unit 9: Statistics & Probability
  • Unit 10: Sequences & Series
  • Unit 11: Trigonometry

There will be 1-2 quizzes per unit, as well as a cumulative unit test. Additionally, you will take a "semester test" after Unit 6 and a "cumulative test" after Unit 12. These tests are important to see how you have progressed throughout the series, as well as how much content you retained.

Homework/outside practice will be expected to ensure mastery of concepts.

Get Ahead by Knowing the Hardest Algebra 2 Concepts

Starts

This is a 4 session course that encompasses the ‘hardest’ topics of Algebra 2. We will be exploring all kinds of problems (especially unconventional ones) so that you can be ready to tackle anything related to these topics.

Additionally, this course is very flexible as we only have a session 2 times a week (Monday and Thursday). This is to ensure that you can absorb the information in each session as much as possible.

Learn Algebra 2: Exponents and Logs

3rd session

Welcome! In this series, we will go over units 6-8 of Khan Academy's Algebra 2 course. These units include:

6. Rational exponents and radicals
7. Exponential Models
8. Logarithms
+ Exponential and Logarithmic Graphs (part of unit 9)

❗ The content in this series may or may not exactly align with the algebra 2 curriculum of your school.

💬 I plan to make sessions interactive by providing practice problems. Remember, there is nothing wrong with getting an answer wrong.

📅 Sessions will on Fridays, 6pm EST. There is no set end date yet. I will add sessions as time goes on.

📝 Materials recommended: calculator, paper, writing utensil.

July Summer Series - Learn Algebra 2!!!

5th session

Hey everyone! For this series, I plan to cover Algebra 2 topics. Because you and I are all from different places, I know topics might be arranged differently and spread out, so for this reason, I'm going to be going in the way that Khan Academy organizes it! We'll go through lots of practice problems with thorough explanations and time for you to practice on your own as well!

[From an AIME Qualifier!] Math Competition Course

5th session

In this course, we will be going over MATHCOUNTS, AMC 8, AMC 10, and beyond depending on the skill level of the class.

Why should you take this course?

Although not necessary for school math, the methods taught in this class can be very beneficial in solving problems in a "smarter" way. This class will teach you tips and tricks schools tend to not teach. From my personal experience, competition math has made school math very easy and offers me much more insight into understanding concepts.

Additionally, competition math can be very helpful in boosting your resume for high school and college. Many of the top schools like MIT ask specifically for your AMC scores, so it will make you stand out from other students.

What will we learn in this course?

We will spend time learning about the three different categories in math: Algebra, Number Theory, and Counting & Probability.

Some examples in each of the categories are:

Algebra: Discriminants, Vieta's Formulas, Rational Root Theorem, Simplified Quadratic Formula, Polynomials, etc.

Number Theory: Classes of Numbers, Divisibility Rules, Engineer's Induction, Pigeonhole Principle, Chicken McNugget Theorem, Parity, etc.

Counting & Probability: Dependent and Independent Events, Permutations and Combinations, Probability, Casework, Complementary Counting, Counting with Restrictions, Think About It!, etc.

How will the classes operate?

A normal class will consist of a 60-minute lecture and practice problems, and a 30-minute problem session with individual help. However, these schedules will fluctuate rapidly as the lectures will most likely require more time.
