Thank you for the session!

Jonathan tried to create choice and flexibility for the learner, asking if they wanted to continue or wait for the group. While this showed empathy, it slowed the learning momentum. During instruction, he occasionally asked for confirmation (“Does that make sense?”) but missed opportunities to deepen engagement with specific examples or targeted questions. More active discussion and learner reflection would strengthen future sessions.

Great job on asking a lot of questions to get a baseline where all the learners were and making sure everyone was okay to move on (and also later on in the session, encouraging them to share their thoughts). I like how you started off by asking learners what they thought of the essays, and then building off of that.

Jonathan adapted well to technical challenges like sharing issues with slides and showed patience while working around them. He allowed the learner to choose whether to continue solo, and adjusted the plan based on their preference. His flexibility and attentiveness helped maintain trust, and his ability to pivot between tools (sharing links, checking in repeatedly) showed a strong commitment to learner comfort.

Jonathan delivered a thoughtful walkthrough of rhetorical devices and their role in writing. He provided correct definitions and useful distinctions between devices like figurative language, syntax, diction, and appeals. His explanation of why rhetorical devices matter and highlighting the author’s purpose and intended effectwas clear. However, the pacing was slow and scattered due to a small group and frequent checks on attendance, which made the session feel slightly improvised.

The heart of this session was connection. Jonathan’s warmth, sense of humor, and openness helped ease early nerves and build trust with learners. He shared his own experiences, offered support, and encouraged curiosity without pressure. His responses to student questions struck the perfect balance between informative and reassuring, making it clear that this is a safe space to learn and grow.
