About

I'm an international student who really believes in the power of peer-to-peer interactions. In particular, I truly think they are powerful because they prove that math is way easier than your handbook seems to suggest. I’m also very into history. In my free time, I learn foreign languages and read.

Hi Luca! First off, thank you for your active participation on Schoolhouse and for leading such an informative session. Your expertise in calculus truly shines throughout! I noticed you utilized a tool that allows for annotation and problem-solving on a whiteboard, which is a fantastic approach. In this session, you covered several important ideas regarding derivatives and their applications. You showed how derivatives represent the instantaneous rate of change of a function at a specific point. Additionally, your explanation of the first derivative was excellent, as it effectively illustrates how the first derivative of a function tells the behavior of the original function. You also discussed how you can use derivatives in limit evaluation through L'Hopital's Rule. Overall, you did a remarkable job demonstrating your knowledge during this session! Keep up the fantastic work!

Yes, the learner definitely made progress! At first, there were some questions that the learner need help on. For example, on the question about the interval where the function is concave down, the learner struggled a bit in finding the intervals. Throughout the session, you have asked him many questions that prepared him well for future similar questions. Towards the end of the session, the learner can answer your questions without using much time, and answer them correctly, which shows that the learner made progress learning!

Well done again, Luca, on your exceptional session! You began by checking the learner's prior knowledge with a thoughtful question about what they had already learned. That was a great way to set the foundation of your session! After hearing that the learner was familiar with limits and derivatives and wanted to focus on derivatives, you adeptly tailored the majority of your session to address their needs. Throughout the session, you consistently checked in with the learner to ensure their understanding, and your frequent interactions demonstrated your commitment to engaging them effectively. I must admit, I envy your skill as a calculus tutor since me personally, I need to work on that! Moreover, you confirmed the learner's progress by asking them to solve problems and tell you what a derivative at a point means. These types of guiding questions throughout the session not only promote critical thinking but also empower the learner to take an active role in their understanding. Once again, fantastic job! Keep up the amazing work!

Throughout the session, Luca, you consistently encouraged the learner and provided positive reinforcement with phrases like "good," "well done," "yes!" and "right." These statements are powerful and significantly boost the learner's confidence, great work! You also excelled at creating a comfortable learning environment. As I mentioned earlier, your frequent interactions with the learner were amazing. In fact, it seemed that the learner contributed to around 50% of the talking time, which is an impressive statistic! This level of engagement creates a welcoming atmosphere, as the more they interact with you, the more comfortable they feel. One suggestion for future sessions would be to address the learner by their name. This small adjustment can enhance the personal connection and create an even more relaxed environment. Overall, once again, fantastic job!
