Introduction to Algebra in the AMCs (Competition Math)

70 minutes

Session Details

About

What are some general approaches to algebra in competition math? What formulas must be memorized? Are there any types of questions that come up consistently? We will cover three parts of algebra that come out frequently on the AMCs and any other math competition—systems of equations, polynomials, and factoring. The content is quite challenging since the difficulty is probably suitable for a student aiming for AIME qualification. However, we'll go through the examples slowly, so you should be able to follow along even if you're not there.

Tutor Qualifications

I've participated in competition math since middle school, and I've made it up to USAMO. I've given this lecture before, and I hope you take away lots from it!
