About

We'll work through a different topic each session as an intuitive introduction into calculus. We are going to introduce the idea of a limit and a derivative, and learn about the applications of both of these. Feel free to drop by if you would like to prepare for your upcoming calculus class, or if you just want to learn something new! Some prerequisite knowledge is Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry.

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

Attendance isn't mandatory, however calculus is a topic that builds on the sessions before it, so if you miss a session it is recommended that you reach out to me for further help. If you do not show up at all within your first 5 sessions, you will be withdrawn.

About the Tutor

Hi! I'm Tony and I'm a sophomore in highschool. I have a passion for both Math and Science, and I hope to be able study Biomedical Engineering in college. When I'm not studying, you can often find me at the pool where I work as a lifeguard, or playing soccer with my friends. If you need help with anything feel free to message me on Schoolhouse!

Session 1

Orientation

Hi! This is going to be an introductory session to try and get to know each other before we start. We will go over the syllabus and the topics that we will be going through over this week, and I'll give some introductory problems that lead into the concept of "Limits and Continuity"

Session 2

Review

This is going to be a review of some of the prerequisite knowledge for calculus. Feel free to hop in if you need review of trigonometry or logarithms!

Session 3

Limits and continuity

What even is a limit? In this session we will cover what a limit is intuitively, and address continuity and types of discontinuities. Then we will introduce some algebraic properties of a limit.

Session 5

Limits and continuity

We'll start off with a quick review of finding limits graphically, then we will be going through all of the algebraic properties of limits, and applying them to find the value of multiple-function limits.

Session 10

Limits and continuity

FINAL SESSION OF LIMITS! Here we will touch up on the smaller details of limits (ex: infinite limits, limits AT infinity, intermediate value theorem) and if we have time nearing the end we will introduce the idea of a "derivative."
