About

This series is suitable for anyone interested in languages or like to solve interesting puzzles! NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE is needed! Here’s an example of what a problem from a linguistics olympiad might look like: https://www.listenandlearn.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Translation.png (from NACLO 2007) Every summer, students from all over the world compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL). In the US, there is the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad or NACLO. Many other countries have similar competitions where students solve puzzles, decoding messages, uncovering meanings of foreign languages, and more. Unlike other olympiads that require hundreds of hours of studying, linguistics olympiads require no prior knowledge. However, exposure to various problems is crucial as one can learn how to tackle certain types of problems. To ensure maximum engagement, all learners must turn their video on at all times during the session and audio needs to be able to be enabled when requested. Learning happens best with active participation! We’ll meet once a week and discover interesting puzzles and solve them as a group!

Tutor Qualifications

I have received honorable mention in the Korea Linguistics Olympiad and will represent South Korea in the Asian-Pacific Linguistics Olympiad in April.
