About

In this introductory series, we’ll explore the origins and causes of the continuation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from a historical standpoint, learning about the history of Israel starting in the late 19th century and continuing to the present day. We’ll talk about the role of key places like Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza, and how they fit into the broader picture.
Although this is primarily meant to be a space for learning, there will also be group discussions. My hope is that we can all come in with openness: to hear one another fully, ask thoughtful questions, and build mutual understanding, even where we might disagree. Each session builds on the next, so my hope is for everyone to attend every meeting.

This series will continue through the rest of August and may extend into the school year.

Structure:
Each session will start with a talk to give some historical background, followed by group discussion.
No prior knowledge is expected- just curiosity and a willingness to engage.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

In this session, we’ll explore the complex developments in the Jewish community of Palestine during the rise of Nazi Germany and the early years of World War II. We’ll trace how events in Europe—like Hitler’s ascent to power, Kristallnacht, and the Holocaust—shaped Jewish immigration patterns, political priorities, and cultural life in Palestine. At the same time, we’ll look at how the Yishuv (the Jewish community in Palestine) responded to growing global threats, from illegal immigration efforts to military involvement with the British. Along the way, we’ll examine key moments like the British White Papers, the death of poet Haim Bialik, and the evolving relationship between the Yishuv and Britain.
