I would say that you did the best you could with what you had. Having a learner that only communicates through the chat function makes engaging them hard due to extensive delays, etc. Even though you had unideal learning conditions I believe you successfully engaged the learner and you were able to check their prior knowledge, however, I suspect that there may be bigger knowledge gaps than seen on the surface. Overall, very nice work, one thing I think you could have done to encourage the learner to turn on their mic and engage a little bit more would be to turn your camera on, it just provides more of a welcoming setting for the learner!

You clearly understand the material at a high level. You can answer all of the questions that your learner had and you were able to successfully get through the worksheet. There were some movements where you seemed flustered or it took you a minute to figure out exactly what you were trying to say but the only thing that can help with that is practice! Overall very nice work!

You clearly identified when the learner made a mistake or misunderstood a problem. It is very evident that you have mastered the concept of triangle similarity. You found useful example problems to walk the learner through and help him grasp the material.

There is evidence the learners made progress. For learner one there was progress made towards the end when after working on the problem you gave general tips on how to solve those types of problems which once again reinforces what you went over with them throughout the session. For learner two progress was seen when they were able to do the harder triangle problems by themselves after going through the easier problems together.

Overall you created a a respectful environment even if at first it was hard due to one of the learners using the chat and asking different questions related to the problem and other questions. You answered them to the best of your abilities while also shifting the conversation to be more math-related. Another thing that was done was taking pauses to make sure the learner was comfortable while also making sure you were comfortable which is important when it comes to tutoring.

Despite the technical difficulties, everything worked out. You did a good job of seeing what each of the learners knew about the problems before helping them. For example for learner one asking what they knew about the problem. They said they didn't know much, which provided you with information on how you could approach the problem. You started off by mentioning keywords and conversions which would start leading someone in the right direction in terms of solving this problem. Next, you asked the learner if they were allowed a calculator, and when they said not unless they really needed to, you weren't condescending and said that was ok and said how it wasn't a big deal as conversions in this problems weren't that hard which keeps a tone of comfortability for the learner and they aren't intimidated with the problem faced. Finally, you provided several practice problems ranging from easy to hard to reinforce what you taught the learner and made sure they understood the different types of problems and walked them through the ones they didn't understand which is important when it comes to learning new concepts and reinforcing older concepts. Overall you did a good job.

Hi, my name is Sarah. Overall you did a good job of explaining the material to the different learners and taking the time to adapt learners based on their needs and preferences. One example that stuck out was how you explained the conversion from hours to minutes and how you approached it in an approachable way with language that makes it seem less intimidating. You said language such as it's not a hard conversion and then you proved it. Another way you proved your understanding of the concept is by adapting to the needs of the individual learners by changing your method based on what the learners have available to them and still using the same tone of it being easy. These instances provide evidence you know the material. Adapting your lesson provides a mastery of the topic and you know how to do the same concept in multiple ways.
