Introduction to Linguistics Olympiads

This series is suitable for anyone interested in languages or like to solve interesting puzzles! NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE is needed!

Every summer, students from all over the world compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL). In the US, there is the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad or NACLO. Many other countries have similar competitions where students solve puzzles, decoding messages, uncovering meanings of foreign languages, and more. Unlike other olympiads that require hundreds of hours of studying, linguistics olympiads require no prior knowledge. However, exposure to various problems is crucial as one can learn how to tackle certain types of problems.

To ensure maximum engagement, all learners must turn their video on at all times during the session and audio needs to be able to be enabled when requested. Learning happens best with active participation!

We’ll meet once a week and discover interesting puzzles and solve them as a group!

Intro to Competition Math

This series is suitable for anyone looking for an introduction for competition math or has limited/no experience in the field.
This series is suited for people preparing for competitions such as Mathcounts, AMC 10, AMC 12.

Those preparing for the AIME or HMMT and those already scoring 120+ on the AMC 10 or 100+ on the AMC 12 should consider taking the second series in the sequence, “Advanced Competition Math” (Will be created in the near future - check back here for a link to the series!)

To ensure maximum engagement, all learners must turn their video on at all times during the session and audio needs to be able to be enabled when requested. Learning happens best with active participation!

Learners are also expected to spend individual time outside of regular sessions on problems, so please check if you will be able to spend 1~2 hours each week in addition to regular sessions on solving problems!

We’ll meet twice each week, once for content lectures and once for problem solving practice and to address any questions!

Competitive Math Preparation - AMC 10/12, Mathcounts etc.

We'll go over a topic and try many practice problems, as "practice makes perfect" - especially in competitive math. We'll also look back at the mistakes, using them as a basis for improvement. The majority of this series will be based on "the Art of Problem Solving - Volume 1: the Basics". A copy of the book is NOT necessary to participate in this series.

Some sessions may only be relevant for those taking the AMC 10/12, which will be indicated in the description.

This series is suitable for those in middle school Mathcounts teams or those in high school that score below 90 on the AMC 10 and below 80 on the AMC 12. Scores on the AMC aren't a requirement for the series. Sessions will assume that learners are already aware of the topics covered in each session. Although a brief overview will be provided, it will be fast-paced, to center the sessions on problem-solving. If you aren't familiar with a certain topic that will be covered in a session, consider looking over the topics beforehand to gain some familiarity!

Video participation is highly preferred as it allows for better engagement and interaction. Please notify ahead of time if this isn't possible due to technical difficulties or other reasons.

Note: Not all sessions have been created as more sessions will be added based on learner demand!
