Intro to Creative Writing!

Have you ever wanted to try writing a book? Or have you already written something and just want help polishing it? Or do you want to improve your writing skills over the summer? If so, this is the place for you!

In this series, cohosted with Anisa I, we will teach you all about creative writing and how to write good stories. Topics include writing *realistic* dialogue, plot structure, character creation, and everything in between. We will mainly be focusing on fiction, but will include some time to go over and practice writing poetry. There will be plenty of fun activities to help you practice the skills we go over. In the last few sessions, you will even be able to write and get feedback on your own story!

SAT Reading (and Writing) Bootcamp!

Hi guys! This series will be split into two parts - reading and writing. Each session will go over strategies for the questions, reading the passages, and include lots of practice!

Intended Audience: anyone taking the SAT in the next 6 months. 

Homework: none, maybe optional vocab or extra practice.

Reading: Each session will focus on one type of passage and follow a similar structure of strategies, example, then timed practice. Each session will also include study tips :)

Writing: The sessions will be split into focusing on either Grammar or "Expressions of Ideas". We'll do practice passages, but most practice will likely be through Kahoot and other more fun things.

Cohorts: Each session will be run twice, once at 7:30pm EST and once at 9:30 pm EST. Feel free to attend either!

SAT Reading Prep Course

The goal of this series is to help you improve your score and feel confident about the SAT Reading test.  There will be 10 sessions -- 1 orientation, 4 on reading comprehension, 2 on strategies for questions, and 3 for exam practice -- as well as office hours sessions to answer any remaining questions and review homework.  This series will be about a month long, and will finish in time for the August 28 SAT.  

I will be focusing primarily on reading comprehension and strategies for answering the questions.  I will also go over study tips and useful resources you can use.  There will be a lot of practice, and the last session will be a full, timed SAT Reading section from a past exam. 

HOMEWORK: Since time management is not my strength, you guys will likely need to finish class activities as homework (sorry).  I will try and keep required homework to less than 15 minutes.  There will also be optional vocabulary work and (possibly) challenge assignments.  We will go over required homework during the next class and optional work during office hours.

About me:  My name is Serena and I've been running SAT sessions on schoolhouse.world for about 3-4 months.  I am a rising HS senior and got a high score on the SAT.
