Organic Chemistry; Five Essential Skills
After teaching and tutoring in organic chemistry for so many years, involving hundreds of students, both here at home in the U.S. as well as abroad in Asia, I have been able to identify a limited number of skills and topics that seem to be barriers for most students. The purpose of this Series is to attack these weaker skills to equip the student of organic chemistry with the necessary skills for success, with organic being a "gateway" class for highly desirable careers in the health sciences.
Those students presently registered in a course in introductory organic chemistry, at the secondary or university level, will benefit most from this Series. However, some sessions will lend themselves to a more general audience looking to achieve a better understanding of fundamental chemistry principles.
The "right approach" to these subjects will be emphasized throughout the Series. This is a conceptual/mechanistic approach....with a de-emphasis on rote memorization.
