Introduction to Computer Science

    Ended Sun, Aug 8, 2021

Computer science can be identified from a long time ago in Mathematics or Physics, and people like John Napier, Gottfried Wilhelm, Charles Babbage, Ada Lovelace, and Alan Turing have made a lot of contributions in Computer Science and they are all mathematicians! So, this gives us an idea that computer science is not about coding but it is about logical, analytical, algorithmic and, mathematical thinking! In this series there will be an introduction to computer science. We will be learning a lot of theory rather than a specific programming language. But to demonstrate how computers work I will be using Python. I will expect everyone to give their views/thoughts on a topic and problems! Prerequisites- Interest in learning computer science You can find sessions' notes here- https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Kkb6ODungEHI20FVSpXdLlLIxsU46is3?usp=sharing

Computer Science

[Python, Foundational Language Concepts, Variables and Expressions] This week we are going to use computers for computer science (not computer science without computers). We will start learning and understanding Python. First I will help learners who don't have Python already installed then we will start with variables and expressions! Experience in programming is not necessary. This series is made for Indian learners but anyone can join!

[Algorithms, Computers, Programs, and Data] Computer Science without computers- 2! We will start by developing a more precise algorithm of Problem- 1 which we did last week, then we will discuss more about algorithms! You can join 10 minutes earlier if you want an overview of the previous session.

[*, Algorithms, Computers, Programs, and Data] Have you ever wondered "What is computer science without computers?" In fact, Alan Turing-'The Father of Modern Computer Science' who invented the first stored-program computer, wrote his famous paper-“On Computable Numbers, with an application to the Entscheidungsproblem,” (which marked the beginnings of computer science) without a computer! And there are a lot of other examples too of researches in CS without computers. In this session, I will introduce problem-solving with algorithms. No experience in programming is expected. The material applies to all programming languages.
