About
Are you new to programming but a fan of art? Embark on this journey as we learn how to program the computer to make art for us.
This class will introduce students to block programming on Scratch, as a means for producing algorithmic art, i.e. art that is made by computer algorithm. Programming can often feel like an abstract concept, but this class will ground those concepts in tangible art that the students end up producing. Students need no prior programming experience, although even students who have programmed in Scratch before will likely learn new concepts (variables, pen tool, forever loop, etc.) The format of the class will be centered on tutorials provided by the instructor, followed by student producing their own algorithmic art and coming back during the same session to share their artwork. The whole class will be highly interactive and students will be expected to participate.
Learning goal: Become familiar with some basic programming concepts and the free Scratch software.
Tutor Qualifications
I have been programming for many years and received a computer science degree from MIT. I've taught Scratch programming to hundreds of students across the United States.
