About

I strongly encourage anyone preparing for CompTIA Security+ or looking to dip their toes into cybersecurity or network security to join this series.

This series will meet every two weeks (on a weekend), and topics will be decided and discussed in the series group chat. Topics will revolve around ethical hacking, penetration testing, and network security. Anyone is welcome to join at any time in the series as there will be a new topic done every session and any necessary prerequisite knowledge for said topic will be shared prior.

I’m in no way a cybersecurity professional; I’m just 17 years old, but I hold CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications, as well as Cisco Linux Essentials and EC Ethical Hacking certifications. I’m currently working towards my Cisco CCNA certification and preparing for the CyberPatriot and SkillsUSA Internetworking competition.

I’m a HS senior from the Washington DC area, currently enrolled in both a general high school and a technical high school—think of a technical school like a trade school. I attend with a focus on IT and cybersecurity, earning certifications (CompTIA A+, Net+, Security+) and college credit! A big part of my identity comes from growing up in an activist culture. When I was in 2nd grade, around age 7, I began forming opinions about "taboo" subjects. By the time I reached middle school, I was already attending walkouts and protests. As a high schooler, I volunteer my skills and time for causes I support. Throughout each stage, I grew less afraid to speak my mind, because if someone doesn't agree with the values I hold highly, then we weren't meant to be friends anyway.

AIME qualifier, 40 points off of USAJMO, ask me about robotics, debate, quiz bowl, or competitive coding, and I'll be glad to share my knowledge. What is a proof?

Sat 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM UTCNov 8, 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM UTC

Intro to Steganography! Steganography is a type of obfuscation (making something obscure, unclear, unreadable, or hidden) where the actual message does not attract attention. The message can be hidden in the actual image, in the bits of the image, in the metadata of the image, nested inside another file, embedded inside TCP packets, etc.

Think of CTF challenges where you find flags, pieces of code, within a vulnerable computer system. We'll be utilizing Kali Linux's steganography tools to find flags within image files as well as hide flags within them.
