About
Writing is the easiest way to market yourself to an audience, and if you can do it correctly, its a great outlet to express your ideas. In this session, we're going to be learning how to properly express your ideas in a clear, coherent way though writing powerful persuasive essays or op-eds. We're going to pick a topic that we're passionate about, and learn how to put that passion into words though tone, punctuation and sentence structure.

We will discuss our essay topics and explore the key elements that create impact, establish tone, and shape our writing to communicate ideas clearly and persuasively. We’ll review examples of essays I’ve written and break them down to see how you can apply the strategies I used in your own writing.
Please take some time—either on your own or during the lecture—to choose a topic and draft an essay outline using bullet points or short sentences to clearly establish your goals for the essay.

By now, you should have a rough draft. During this session, we will have a Q&A focused on your topic choice and essay structure. We’ll work on crafting a strong hook and ensuring your essay flows smoothly from one point to the next, staying focused on your main purpose so your argument remains clear and impactful.
We'll be exploring how tone shapes the reader’s perception and how to adapt tone to different audiences and purposes
During this session or in your own time, please start writing your first draft.

Once you have a rough draft of your essay, we will focus on strengthening your argument by effectively incorporating evidence. We’ll discuss how to use facts, statistics, anecdotes, and expert quotes, and practice integrating these elements smoothly into your writing while clearly explaining their relevance to your claims.

Finally, we will polish our essays by focusing on clarity, coherence, and persuasiveness through peer review. I will share tips on using sentence variety, eliminating wordiness, and correcting common errors. At the end of the session, we’ll also discuss how to share your writing with an audience and how to create a compelling title for your essay, if you haven’t done so already.
