Pre-Calculus Crash Course🌏🚀🧠

Next session on Jul 1, 2022

Hosted by Vince K

This series is full. Spots may open as learners withdraw–try checking back later!

Series Details

Welcome to our Pre-Calculus Crash Course! Join this series to learn how to solve problems confidently and come out feeling better with math than ever before. In addition, no previous knowledge is required, though some knowledge of previous math courses like Algebra I and II make things much easier. Make sure to have a notebook, pencil, and scientific calculator too!
We'll run through a handful of Pre-Calculus subtopics, from complex numbers and trigonometry to matrices and vectors. We'll also go through the methods/strategies that go hand-in-hand with certain problems and topics by using them in practice problems from Khan Academy. By the end of the series, you will be able to solve any Pre-Calc problem on your own with enough practice and time.
TIME IS TBD! More sessions will be added!
I'll also continue to edit the sessions in the series, so be on the lookout. Hope to see you there! :)

If you know you're going to miss a session, please notify me beforehand. Otherwise, if you have 2 unexcused absences, you will be withdrawn from the series. And, like always, try your best to attend as many sessions as possible :)

About the Tutor

Hey, everyone! My name is Vince and I'm a sophomore. I really like math, languages/cultures, and music. I'm a South Korean native but I currently live in the US. I have spent a lot of time doing math and I began to help my friends with it after I realized they were going through the same roadblocks that I had gone through. My goal is to keep learning new things -- history, stories, songs, etc. -- and enjoy what I do. I'm really glad to become a part of the schoolhouse team and I hope to help you guys along the way! If you have any questions or just want someone to talk with, feel free to message me on Slack!

Upcoming Sessions

Session 2

Composite and inverse functions

Lift-off to function universe! We'll go over:
- What are composites and inverses?
- More on the requirements of inverse functions
- Practice problems and a quick quiz at the end

Session 3

Bring a scientific calculator! Remember sin, cos, tan? Let's dive deeper into the realm of triangles:
- Special Values + Proofs(not the boring type of proofs :)
- Identities
- Inverse Trig
- Sinusoidal Equations

Session 4

Bring a scientific calculator! Continuing with sinusoidal equations, we'll also go through:
- Sinusoidal Models
- Law of Sines and Cosines
- Addition Angle Identities

Session 5

Complex numbers

Bring a scientific calculator! Today we'll be going over complex numbers, which handles topics like:
- Conjugates
- Absolute Value and Angles?!
- Polar and Rectangular Form
- Graphing Complex Numbers

Session 6

Rational functions

Today we'll be going over rational functions! With a lot of reduction, we can go through:
- Lowest terms
- Exclusion
- Discontinuities
- End Behavior
- Bonus topic if we have time :D

Session 7

Conic sections

Take two cones, slice a plane through them, and... voila! For this session on conic sections, let's take a look at:
- Ellipse
- Hyperbola

Session 8

Inside the vector realm, let's take a look at:
- What is a vector?
- Addition, subtraction, multiplication of a vector
- Magnitude and angle
- Trig cameo!

Session 9

Moving along with matrices! Since talking about it takes quite a while, we'll be looking into matrices in this session and the next. For this one, we'll look at:
- Adding and subtracting matrices
- How to represent data with matrices
- Matrix transformations and vectors

Session 10

Let's get ready for round two:
- Composing matrices
- Matrix Multiplication
- How to solve systems of equations using matrices!
- Other neat properties with matrix multiplication
