About

Hello! My name is Abena, and I am a senior in high school. As someone who is currently going through college applications, I understand how difficult the process can feel. Tests are a component in your application that may feel unchangeable- you might get your score and feel like there is no way to significantly improve it. While it may seem daunting, it’s definitely possible to achieve your dream score and improve the strength of your college application!

I found that what contributed the most to my scores was a highly personalized study plan. By gauging my performance on practice tests and problems, I was able to identify the topics I struggled with the most and hone in on them, reviewing those topics in greater detail. It is my goal to do the same in this bootcamp in order to provide every learner with an individualized tutoring experience that will effectively map their progress and allow them to improve their scores.

In this bootcamp, we’ll prioritize active learning and engagement. The best way to ensure your progress is to actively take part in lessons. For that reason, I’d love it if everyone would have their camera on (and mic on when needed) during zoom sessions.

This four-week tutoring series will help you prepare for your upcoming SAT in both Reading and Writing & Language. By the end of the series, you will have completed multiple practice tests and worked through a number of problems from previous SATs, helping you build confidence for your upcoming exam. You’ll spend each session with me and a small group of other learners who are also working towards taking the SAT. Since it’s a small group, you can expect sessions to be very interactive as you work together towards improving your SAT skills as much as you can! Note: Cameras should be on so we can all get to know each other! If you have a specific reason why you can’t have your camera on, please notify me ahead of time.

Hello! My name is Abena and I’m a senior in high school. I’m very passionate about science and volunteering, and I’m a leader in my school’s Science National Honor Society and LEO Club for community service. Outside of school, I’ve been involved with health services research, volunteering at a hospital, and my church choir. I’d like to join Schoolhouse and help tutor other students for the SAT because I remember when I was preparing for it- all the resources I used, searching the internet for tips and advice, the time spent in preparation- the whole process felt really difficult and I know how stressed students preparing for it now must feel. I also remember how rewarding it felt to get my score back and have my efforts pay off. I want to be apart of that experience and make the journey a little better for anyone I can.

Practice and review official full-length SAT® practice tests, including one Bluebook test.

Get personalized support with the most challenging questions and concepts.

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

Please do not miss more than one session over the four weeks, as that will negatively affect your learning and may also take up a spot from another learner who could have attended every session.

Message your tutor if you have an extenuating circumstance and must miss a session. If you have two unexcused absences, your tutor may remove you from the bootcamp series.

We’ll start with an orientation to get to know each other. Then, we will review Standard English Conventions and Grammar in the writing section. After, we will work through a shortened practice exam and review questions you’d like to go over.

We’ll begin by reviewing Expressions of Ideas on the writing sections. After, we will finish the practice exam from the first session and we will review any questions you have. We will wrap the session up with targeted writing practice.

We’ll start the session by reviewing strategies for a focus passage type (based on the results of the previous practice exams). Afterwards, we will begin the a reading practice exam and review any questions you have.
