APUSH Essay Workshop [From a 5 Scorer!]

3rd session

This series will go over the basics of writing APUSH LEQs (Long Essay Questions) and DBQs (Document Based Questions). LEQs make up about 15% of the total APUSH exam score, however, understanding the basics of LEQs is the foundation for the writing section (including DBQs and SAQs), which altogether make up 60% of the exam. This series will hopefully increase your confidence in writing essays by providing personalized feedback from a five scorer (me!) and plenty of practice.

Before going into this series, you should have some basic knowledge of US History (i.e. you know what the Revolutionary War was), but no knowledge of specific details (dates, unit knowledge) is required. You should learn those in your class -- this series is meant to supplement your learning to help those who feel particularly weak with writing, not give lectures. You should also have access to a writing software (i.e. google docs) to take notes and to write your own essays. You should expect to write ~2-3 full essays within the span of this series, most likely Document Based Questions because those make up the larger portion of the exam. You will have homework, which may include writing a full essay.

Please come into this series willing to learn and participate. This series also works best if you go through it consistently -- please only sign up if you're willing to do the work and attend every session for the next seven weeks!

AP History FRQ Crash Course

7th session

Taking an AP History class next year and want to review for the FRQs? You're in the right place!

The DBQ, SAQ, and LEQ make up the FRQ portion for three of the AP History exams. In this series, we'll go over the rubrics, some tips, and do a bunch of practice! If you’re taking the AP World, APUSH, or AP European History exams in May, I’d highly recommend joining, as the general skills for the writing section are the same across all three exams.

If you're taking AP US Government and Politics and are wondering how those FRQs work, send me a DM! I got a 5 on the exam so I'd be more than happy to host a separate series on that.

If you’ve attended my last four series in the past on this topic, it’s generally the same format :)
