You were able to thoroughly walk the learner (Ya Y) through her problem and used visuals to explain, such as a whiteboard. I liked how you were patient and slow with her when she didn't understand something and praised her when she got a part of the problem correctly. Overall, you patiently and respectfully explained the problem and Pythagoras' formula.

Your slideshow included a variety of notes and diagrams that seemed to help guide your session. The diagrams, in particular really supplemented your explanation of these processes. For instance, when you were explaining gravitropism, the diagram was extremely useful to help the audience understand your explanation, because having a visual representation of the process helps different types of learners understand the material well. I also really liked how you created your own visuals on the spot to help learners understand certain topics. For instance, when you were reviewing the impact of light on auxin, being able to draw the diagram and explain all the relevant components showed that you were well-versed in the topic. Overall, your explanations were extremely well-detailed and it was very clear that you were familiar with these topics and their content on the CIE IGCSE exam.

Despite the technical difficulties throughout the session, I really liked how you walked through and explained each step of the problem with the learner. That was an excellent way to not only help your learner, but also show your mastery of the content. Every single time the learner had a question about the "why" of a problem, you were able to respond. You used their prior knowledge, such as the properties of logarithms, to build onto your explanations as well. For instance, I noticed that your learner was having a hard time understanding the concept behind negative exponents. But, you did a great job explaining a different way to visualize them (converting them to a fraction instead), which really helped your learner understand that idea a bit more. I also really liked that you created a practice question, on the spot, to test the concepts that your learner was struggling with the most throughout the session. Not only does that require deep understanding of the content, since you have to foresee the solution process, but it also shows how dedicated you were to helping your learner succeed. Your mastery of simplifying logs is clear, Michelle—nice work!

I really liked how you detailed the agenda for the session and asked the learners for their familiarity with the topic as soon as you started the session, because that is a great way to check their prior knowledge and adapt to their needs. Throughout the session, you were able to continuously engage the learners by asking them a variety of practice questions, which was a great way to check their understanding of he material. I also really liked how you asked your learners multiple times if they'd like you to review anything, because it allowed you to adapt to their needs and review the material they found confusing. So, even though this was certainly a lecture-based session in which you reviewed the information in the slideshow, I thought you did an excellent job promoting active learning and getting your learners involved!
