Exploring one-variable quantitative data: Summary statistics

We'll go over how to calculate the mean, median, standard deviation, and range of a dataset, and we'll do plenty of example problems! I'm also happy to answer any questions about Statistics or any other math topics.

SUMMIT - this session is intended for summit students; however everyone is welcome! In this session, we will: -Represent and interpret data with dot plots -Use the mean, median, and interquartile range of data sets to compare data sets. -Interpret differences in shape, center, and spread in the context of data sets

Exploring one-variable quantitative data: Summary statistics

SUMMIT - this session is intended for Summit students, however anyone else can feel free to attend. In this session I will be discussing basic statistic concepts such as mean, median, outliers, interquartile range, sampling variance, and standard deviation. We will analyze box and whisker plots and dot plots. There will be many practice problems to aid understanding. The aforementioned topics are not as difficult as they may seem; only a basic foundation in algebra is required.

Exploring one-variable quantitative data: Summary statistics

SUMMIT — This session is intended for Summit students; however, anyone may join. In the previous session, we had a discussion on the "Whys" and "Whats" why do we need to measure central tendency and dispersion, and we did practice questions on the central tendency. In this session, we will start with a quick recap of the above and learn more about box plots, quartiles, outliers, interquartile range, comparing different box plots.

Exploring one-variable quantitative data: Summary statistics

We will be learning how to calculate and interpret mean, median, and IQR, as well as how to identify outliers & draw box and whisker plots. Please bring a pencil/paper, a calculator, and any questions/problems you would like to cover as well. Hope to see you there!

Exploring one-variable quantitative data: Summary statistics

In this initial session (on-camera, if possible for the learners), we will have a conversation about common issues that you face in statistics as well as going through the following sections in the Khan Academy Unit - Summarizing quantitative data: 1) Measuring center in quantitative data. 2) More on mean and median. We will attempt the practice questions as well as Quiz #1 (time permitting). Please bring something to write with and to write on as this session will be interactive. Please leave any feedback or questions in the comments.
