Tariffs & Global Trades Dialogue

    Starts

Welcome to [Dialogues](https://schoolhouse.world/dialogues)! In this session, we will be discussing Tariffs & Global Trades and using this [[discussion guide]](https://schoolhouse.world/redirect?code=dELpJ4SA70PMZMaGP9c9m). Here’s some helpful information to help you prepare for your session: 📌 Session introduction: At the start of the session, the event host will provide some introductory remarks about how the session will work and tips for discussion. 🧩 Discussion partner matching: All participants will be matched with a conversation partner to discuss with. If there are uneven numbers, you may have two conversation partners. 🤝 Breakout discussions: After the session introduction, everyone will switch to their breakout discussion. Your discussion will be unmoderated, so you can start when your partner arrives in the new Zoom link. 🗺️ Discussion Guide: You will have a topic-specific discussion guide for the session to help guide conversation. ⏰ Session length: The breakout discussions are scheduled for 45 minutes but you can discuss as long as you want! ✅ Stay on topic: Please make sure to stay on topic. If you and your partner run out of things to discuss, it’s okay to end the discussion early. You will not be returning to the main group when your conversation is over. 🤔 Make the discussion your own: You probably won’t have time to answer all the guide questions so pick and choose! Feel free to also bring in your own questions and ideas outside of the guide. 📝 Survey: A mandatory survey will appear at the end of your session to fill out. This must be filled out for you to get credit for the session in your Dialogues portfolio. 🤸‍♂️ Have fun: There is no preparation needed for this event. These conversations are meant to be casual, in addition to being meaningful. We hope you enjoy it!

Word of the Day!

    48th session

New learners are always welcome!! We're entering a new season and kicking off a new chapter of words. In this series, there are two sessions per day, twice a week for a whole year! How it works: We go over the pronunciation, definition, synonyms and antonyms, origin (and maybe some fun facts), and how to use the word in a sentence. There is always a super fun Kahoot about the word. Then we have Idiom of the Day, where we introduce a new idiom, its meaning, and how it's used in a sentence. Then, at the end, we have two quotes of the day! They may be inspirational, or funny, or both! I hope to see you there! These sessions are perfect for expanding your vocabulary. Changes from the original series: - Sessions will be hosted every other day. - Learners who misbehave in any way that slightly defers the Schoolhouse policy will be removed. - Our original host will not be involved in this series.

24-Hour Study Session: Breaking the SHW Record!

    Ended Sun, Jul 28, 2024

This is a series consisting of 8 back-to-back 3-hour sessions to make for a "mega-session" lasting for a total of 24 hours. 🎉 You are not required to join all eight sessions. Come and join us for the greatest, longest, most exciting study session EVER on Schoolhouse! We aim to shatter the record for the longest study session ever hosted by participating in this 24-hour mega study session. Come grind your summer plans, whether it be: - conducting research in the most esoteric depths of mathematical analysis, - cleaning out your bedroom which you have not been able to make yourself clean for the past year, - torturing your fingers to master La Campanella on the violin, - anything in between! You do not have to stay for the entire 24 hours, as long as you are able to come. We welcome as many tutors in as many different timezones as possible to cohost the session! This record-breaking event cannot happen without a joint effort of many, many tutors. In the spirit of most study space series on Schoolhouse, we will also use the well-celebrated Pomodoro technique of 25-minute study times and 5-minute breaks. We can do this! 💪

Welcome, my dear knowledge seekers, this shall be exciting for you! We will be hosting a series of sessions talking about the origin of the names for the seven days of the week(Sunday to Saturday), the twelve months(January to December), and the twelve Chinese years(mouse to pig...sounds funny?). Of course, a session will mainly have three parts: Days of the week, Months, and Chinese years. Additionally, I will be creating question kits from Gimkit.com related to the topics covered in our series and we can play them together both for fun and for refreshing our memory! The time for the main sessions will be set for Sunday AND Tuesday 6:30-7:30 pm EST, with the addition of activity time such as playing Gimkit review games on Wednesday or Thursday 6:30-7:30 pm EST. I look forward to seeing you in our session and promise that you will have a splendid experience! Additionally, I am looking for one or two co-hosts for this series with the following qualifications: 1. You have some prior knowledge on these topics, at least the origin of weeks and months (the Chinese years part will be mainly my topic to prepare) 2. You are already an experienced tutor (have been a tutor for at least one month) 3. You can be sure that you will be free at the time written above. 4. You are comfortable working with people from all backgrounds. (Message me privately if you are interested in applying, via Schoolhouse or Slack)

Pre-Algebra Bootcamp!

    Ended Thu, Nov 30, 2023

Hello there! In this series, we will go through all the topics in pre-algebra as a group, each week. We will be following the Khan Academy format and here is how the sessions are organized. We will have 1 session to cover 1 topic in pre-algebra, and after 3 sessions of learning and going over new topics, we will have a study space/ hall type of session, where if you missed any sessions, you can get caught up and if there was a topic you didn't fully understand, we can go over it. You can also come with any prealgebra homework questions! Attendance is optional for the study hall sessions. We will have one session per week unless that has to be canceled or delayed for any reason. We will add more sessions as we go. Space is limited as this is a small group, so please make sure to attend every session; if you miss more than two sessions without letting me or our other co-hosts know, you will be removed to make space for other learners who are interested. Excited to see you in the session!

Chinese Study Group-Fun&Facts

    Ended Sat, Feb 24, 2024

Welcome! Worthy Scholars who decided to tread the path of Studying Chinese! This Series is dedicated to being the lamp of your feet and the light of your path! Study Plan: In this series, I will combine practical communication skills with fundamental Chinese spelling skills for informative teaching, aiming to the milestone of helping you understand basic communication and pronouncing each Chinese Character independently with the support of Pinyin, the Chinese system of spelling. For clarity sake, a session will have four major sections: 1, Communication skills: learning useful phrases and expressions, including some grammar. 2, Pinyin skill: learning the pronunciation of pinyin alphabets and the way they combine with each other. 3, Fun & Facts: learning some fun things about Chinese, such as dissecting a Chinese character, learning an idiom or slang, etc. 4, Chinese Q&A: Bring forward any question you have from the previous week's study or homework (if you have one), and I will help you solve it at the end of the session. Other activities and things to know: From time to time, I will add a session for special activities, such as Chinese poetry, folk stories, unique cultural aspects, or even calligraphy. Feel free to register just for these, but it won't be as much of them as the actual lesson. Everyone is free to come, no matter what level of learning you are in. Even if you are Chinese, come in and have some fun; take a look and share some feedback, I would appreciate that a lot! About homework, I will not assign any official homework, but maybe a few things for you to review over, I hope that you will make some progress. I will be excited to see you there, it is great if you want to study, but it is also fine if all you want is some fun! If the time is not ideal for you, tell me in the chat! I will see what I can do about it. Here is a good resource for practicing Chinese, try out Duolingo! https://www.duolingo.com/enroll/zh/en/Learn-Chinese
