About

In this session, we'll be exploring the topic, Addressing Racism. We will use this discussion guide. We'll explore questions like: What is the most effective way to combat racism in society? What should the role of educating people about bias and historical injustice be? What about investing in common bonds to make race less of a major factor in daily interactions?
๏ปฟ
Welcome to Dialogues! Hereโ€™s some helpful information to help you prepare for your session:
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿ“Œ Session introduction: At the start of the session, the event host will provide some introductory remarks about how the session will work and tips for discussion.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿงฉ Discussion partner matching: All participants will be matched with a conversation partner to discuss with. If there are uneven numbers, you may have two conversation partners.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿค Breakout discussions: After the session introduction, everyone will switch to their breakout discussion. Your discussion will be unmoderated, so you can start when your partner arrives in the new Zoom link.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Discussion Guide: You will have a topic-specific discussion guide for the session to help guide conversation.
๏ปฟ
โฐ Session length: The breakout discussions are scheduled for 45 minutes but you can discuss as long as you want!
๏ปฟ
โœ… Stay on topic: Please make sure to stay on topic. If you and your partner run out of things to discuss, itโ€™s okay to end the discussion early. You will not be returning to the main group when your conversation is over.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿค” Make the discussion your own: You probably wonโ€™t have time to answer all the guide questions so pick and choose! Feel free to also bring in your own questions and ideas outside of the guide.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿ“ Survey: A mandatory survey will appear at the end of your session to fill out. This must be filled out for you to get credit for the session in your Dialogues portfolio.
๏ปฟ
๐Ÿคธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Have fun: There is no preparation needed for this event. These conversations are meant to be casual, in addition to being meaningful. We hope you enjoy it!

Hello, everyone. My name is Joseph. I am a homeschooled high school rising senior from China, yet I am enrolled in an American program. I am the Founder of the Reading and Writing Subworld and a former moderator (Nov 2023-May 2025); I am now a moderator of the Tutor Subworld. On Schoolhouse, I mainly focus on hosting and constructing community events, like game nights and academic competitions. I also tutor English literature and the Chinese language. I played the instrument Hulusi (gourd flute), a traditional Chinese instrument, and reached the top level in 2022; I also have fundamental knowledge of piano and the Chinese bamboo flute. I enjoy creating with art, especially ink pen sketching and digital; I also enjoy creating atlases for imaginary worlds. In my free time, I like to play video games (Honor of Kings, Arena Breakout, and Minecraft), rollerblade, play soccer, and watch movies. I am a very active tutor on Schoolhouse, and I love to make friends! Feel free to reach out with anything you might need help with, and I am willing to lend a hand if it is within my power.

Hello there! Iโ€™m a high school graduate currently on a gap year, exploring new passions and figuring out my next steps. I love crafting, reading, and diving into a variety of interests. When Iโ€™m not crafting or reading, you can probably catch me just relaxing and enjoying the little things in life. ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŒŸ
