Impromptu 101 and Extempore TEDxSchoolhouse 3.0

    Ended Sun, Sep 3, 2023

Ever wanted to take part in extempore TEDx Talks? Ever wanted to improve your impromptu speaking skills? Well, this is the series for you! Hey everyone! I’m really excited to bring the third edition of my previous Extempore TEDxSchoohouse series, but with a little twist! Welcome to the Schoolhouse Extempore TEDx Talks 2.0 and Impromptu 101🎉! In this series, we’ll start with the basics of impromptu/extempore speaking and then, we’ll be having sessions where you will get the chance to test out and improve your skills in extempore talks as well as pick up tips to do well in speaking impromptu. IMPROMPTU 101 In the first few sessions, we’ll be going through the basics of impromptu speaking and we’ll also go through some tips to be a good impromptu speaker to set ourselves up for success when you get the chance to speak! HOW EXTEMPORE TED TALKS WORK In extempore TEDx Talks, you are randomly given a topic to speak on and given 60 seconds to gather your thoughts, after which you are given 4 minutes to speak along with an additional extra one minute if needed. But don’t worry, we won’t give you just 1 minute to think right from our first session. Since we also want to include beginners and help you improve your skills, we’ll start out with 3 minutes, and gradually decrease the thinking time until it reaches 1 minute. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE If you have vast experience in extempore talks and just want to brush up your skills and take part, or if you’re a complete beginner looking to start out, the series is for you! Anyone who’s interested can take part, regardless of your experience. If you’re a bit shy and worried about not doing well, don’t worry, we’re all here to learn and the only way we can learn is by practising! Note: I have kept the sessions at times to accommodate as many time zones as I can. If the timings of the sessions don’t work for you, please let me know and I’ll try my best to host a session at a time that’ll work for you.

Autodidactism: How to be a student, and your own teacher! + Study Skills (Asia-friendly timings)

    Ended Sun, May 29, 2022

Hello everyone! I'm thrilled to see so many of you interested in the original series (https://schoolhouse.world/series/733 )!Since some of you requested to have sessions at Asia-friendly times, here’s the series for you! CO-TUTORS I am not the only tutor who will be leading the series. Karinna F and G Tarun have been co-tutoring the other series for this with me. Unfortunately, Karinna F won’t be able to co-tutor in these Asia-friendly timings, since the timings are well over midnight for her. G Tarun will be joining me in co-hosting this series, although Karinna F has been doing a lot of the behind-the-scenes work for both of the series, and as the series goes on we expect the format to lean more towards discussion with other tutors and learners joining to talk. WHO CAN BE AN AUTODIDACT Self-directed learning has very little to do with the actual material you are studying, so it doesn't matter whether you are advanced or in a traditional school environment or studying for exams. This is us sharing the skills on how for you to manage your own learning, not what to learn. Anyone and everyone are welcome! A FEW EXAMPLE TOPICS The science behind how your brain learns best (and worst!). How to find a community of like-minded learners. How to use active recall and cycled practice while studying. How to build your own curriculum and stick to it. Our experiences & self-directed learning journeys and what we have picked up along the way Expect fun slides, rambled discussion, Pomodoro timers and much more!
