Schoolhouse completely changed my application as an international student

Nov 13, 2024

The Schoolhouse certifications are the only way I have to showcase my mastery, as I don't have access to APs in my country. Being a tutor allowed me to showcase my knowledge to colleges in the US. Than you so much, Schoolhouse!

The Schoolhouse Revolution

Oct 11, 2024

A few months back, I was struggling with the exercises in Khan Academy. I felt that my questions in the discussion page were never answered quickly enough. The white pages with comments, answers, and questions were filled with a distance that could not be bridged. I felt disconnected from the other users. Then one day, I found Schoolhouse on the internet, while searching for various websites to boost my productivity and learning pace. At first, I was scared to join sessions. The idea of speaking in a session or even writing in the chat repelled me and I lost my courage. Eventually, though, I joined the Word of the Day series, which was the first series I joined on Schoolhouse. The tutors were warm and friendly, the learners enthusiastic, and the slides were nothing short of amazing. Eventually, I attended session after session, never missing a class, and my vocabulary grew, as did my passion for learning. Currently, I have joined 50 sessions, and have logged over 1500 minutes of learning, something that I could never have done without Schoolhouse and its wonderful community. Thank you, Schoolhouse.

Schoolhouse: The Heart of Education

Sep 8, 2024

Joining the Schoolhouse platform in May of 2024, I started off as a learner in the SAT Reading & Writing Bootcamp. Increasing my SAT score by about 50 points, it was at that moment I recognized the impact that Schoolhouse tutors can bring to the community. As a result, I decided to become a tutor on the Schoolhouse platform, specifically tutoring in the Enrichment and SAT Prep subworld. As a tutor, I have learned and have continued to practice discipline, responsibility, patience, and empathy. Helping another student reach their "Aha!" moment when it comes to learning is an incredible sense of fulfillment I get to experience with each session I host. On top of that, I get to meet well-rounded, passionate students from all over the world, some from Korea, France, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, and Nigeria, always learning from my students about their background and their life story. I hope to continue my passion for teaching through the Schoolhouse platform, empowering the process of learning to students around the world. Anthony J. D'Angelo once stated: "Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow." Ultimately, it is Schoolhouse which provides individuals of all ages and backgrounds to taste the power of learning.

Why I joined Schoolhouse

Aug 18, 2024

I joined Schoolhouse because it is an amazing opportunity for me to share my SAT knowledge with the other students, to help them get a high score on the test as well. I want to be able to transform my full knowledge to them. This is a way to give back to the community.

Why I joined Shoolhouse?

Jul 30, 2024

I basically joined Schoolhouse to study for DSAT so that I can improve my DSAT score. My first DSAT (April,2024) score was bad which was an 1120 (Eng:480 , math: 640). I have joined two DSAT bootcamps to improve my DSAT score. I'm planning to take my 2nd DSAT in October,2024. Besides the DSAT, I'm also looking forward to volunteering in Schoolhouse to improve my skills as well as getting service hours.

The start of my chance

Jun 5, 2024

This June 1st was not only my first SAT ever but also the outcome of all the experiences I've passed through at Scholhouse since Feb/24. I started from almost zero to prepare for the sat, first with Khan Academy and then schoolhouse as main resources. On the path, I meet such a great tutor as Abdelrahman (serie : CRACK THE DSAT), along with a rich community of students and passionate contributors who, through their creative series, posts, and even questions, have engaged this environment of constant learning. For me, this SAT was the chance to get to know different people with different backgrounds and likes, find cool "series/courses" about the topics I'm interested in, and have the opportunity to do something meaningful with what I already know.

An Opportunity to Make Change

May 13, 2024

I had a learner I reached out to who said she was struggling with turning in assignments for the specific subject, but she wouldn't let me help her. The next day, she told me she was going to delete her account because she didn't like the platform. I told her how to delete her account because she asked, but once again offered to enter a session with her. She agreed and were in a session for 30 minutes working on subject related work. The day after that, she told me she was still going to delete because she was "shy and not smart." Through heavy convincing, I was able to get her to agree to a 90 minute session and taught her core fundamentals in the subject that she had missed. Over the session, I saw so much growth and development in her as a learner. But still, after this, she said she was going to delete, so I told her goodbye. But just an hour later, she returned and said exactly this: "I just wanted to tell u that I am sorry abt how I acted and I want to keep this and get my grades up i love u tutoring me and I hope that u could do It more oftain!!!! thank u so much ur the best tutor!!!" The learner is going on a vacation for two weeks, but after then, we hope to resume working on subject matters. I wanted to say thank you so much Schoolhouse for giving me the opportunity to make a change and impact in someone else's life, and for giving me the chance to make a difference, which really made my day!

Mar 13, 2024

As I have grown into a tutor I have had a lot of help along the journey. I have helped learners grow into the bright minds they are today, and I have met wonderful tutors who were willing to help me grow into the tutor I am today. I have been busy and I love the time I spend here every day it is truly amazing that the founding tutors have been able to build this community from the ground up to the sky. The tutors and learners here are the meaning of "the sky is the limit" A lot of learners come to me and other tutors with the anxiety of failing and they count on us to tutor them, But as the time zones don't match up a lot of times but it is wonderful that all learners feel comfortable with seeking help we also know what it is like to need help in school so we try to explain the subject to the best of our ability, so don't ever contact a tutor with the fear of being turned away we are here to help and we care

Math Bootcamp Helped Me Receive a Scholarship

Dec 26, 2023

Hi! My name is Brooke, and I'm a junior in high school. I've been studying relentlessly for the SAT for the past three years, but I've always struggled with the math section. However, I increased my SAT score a substantial amount when I began attending Schoolhouse's SAT bootcamps. As a result of this score increase, I will now be eligible for a prominent scholarship in my state that will pay for the tuition required to attend college. Ja'Qwan, my SAT tutor for the December SAT, went above and beyond for his students. He created "office hours" outside of the regular meetings so we could come in and ask him questions, and even create his own "linear equations" presentation that he shared with us during office hours to help us better understand specific concepts covered on the SAT. With tutors like Ja'Qwan, Schoolhouse makes learning easy and fun. Overall, I'm so grateful for Schoolhouse and would recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about any STEM-related subjects, and of course, the SAT!

Math is not that hard!

Dec 17, 2023

After learning with so many tutors and learners I got very comfortable with mathematics and becoming proficient in it. I am so happy to get rid of this fear. Also teaching many students!!!OMG I could not even believe that I am teaching my most hated subject at so young age. All thanks to schoolhouse for giving me both point of views as learner and also as a tutor. I am really thankful for giving me these opportunities..

A Passion for Education

Dec 1, 2023

I began tutoring on Schoolhouse when I realized it was created by Sal Khan, who I had always been grateful to for Khan Academy. When I started tutoring my first students, I realized I had a joy for tutoring and helping others. It was a unique but rewarding experience to help strangers understand concepts they had been struggling to "get" for so long, and we could share these moments of triumph together, forming a bond. Of course, with teaching being the best way to enhance one's own knowledge, this was also great for my own understanding of subjects; fresh observations from my tutees could expose me to a new way of looking at things. It was this excitement that hooked me to tutoring; not knowing whether you'll be teaching or getting taught! Overall, after around a year of tutoring on Schoolhouse, I can definitely say it has truly been life changing. From meeting tutees halfway across the world to learning new tricks from them, becoming a tutor here has been one of the best experiences of my life!

How Schoolhouse Taught Me Inculsivity

Nov 22, 2023

Tutoring and being a moderator through Schoolhouse helped me make a difference globally by helping many students from around the world. I’ve tutored students from many countries such as the United States, China, Vietnam, India, and the United Kingdom. Tutoring such a large range of different people and cultures taught me to be inclusive of these varying cultures. It also taught me that we have more in common than we may realize. We are all still humans who can feel frustrated if something is hard for us to grasp. We also all feel accomplished if we finally understand something that was challenging to us. I also noticed that I enjoy similar hobbies to someone who lives in China or Indonesia. Being on Schoolhouse has taught me that even though people may live an ocean apart, we can still connect with each other despite language or cultural differences.

SAT Block: Goodbye, Hesitations

Aug 25, 2023

I'm a senior and I've been studying for the SAT since freshman year. Paid prep didn't work, despite my parents' constant pressure. When junior year finished, I told my parents to save some money and let me try out Khan Academy. I was about a couple hundred questions in when I received an email about free SAT prep in partnership with Khan Academy. I thought to myself, "Heck yeah!" and immediately signed up for a bootcamp series. Since that day, I've been more prepared and devoted to improving my score than the young freshie who didn't know why she was thrusted into SAT prep. I started attending bootcamp with a purpose and I've come a long way--from 600 on the R&W to a 720. My tutor, Anne L, from Maryland, is, honestly, breathtakingly patient, understandable, and informative. I could not have survived August's studying without her and the class. Thank you, SchoolHouse. Good luck on my August SAT tomorrow!

My experience with Schoolhouse and Khan Academy

Jun 2, 2023

Schoolhouse World has helped me appreciate learning and interacting with others more. Their SAT Boot Camps encouraged me to study ahead of time for my exam, which was something I never did before. Practicing with Khan Academy helped me reinforce those topics I once had trouble with, and Schoolhouse's tutors have been an enormous help to me. It was like stepping into a whole new world of learning and exploration. As I entered the virtual classroom, I was greeted by a friendly teacher who was eager to help me learn. The lessons were engaging and interactive, and I found myself enjoying the learning process. But what I loved most about Schoolhouse World was the sense of community. I was able to connect with other students from all around the world, and we worked together to solve problems and complete assignments. Overall, my experience with Schoolhouse World was truly unique. I feel like I learned so much, and I made some great friends along the way. Thank you for providing such an excellent learning environment!

My Story here in SHW

May 3, 2023

I am a user of Khan Academy and got an email to a meeting where Sal Khan introduced SHW as a volunteer run platform. I first started here as a learner in July 2022. But the love of teaching someone took over the wheel and I officially became a certified tutor here in Jan 2023. SHW is an amazing platform where any certified student gets to be a tutor. It has been an amazing journey as I share middle and high school students my knowledge on Math and Biology. I hope to see more curious minds here.

A Leap In Education With The Potential Of Revolutionizing Learning

Apr 30, 2023

I have been a tutor on schoolhouse for upwards of a week now, and have been using the platform for more than a year. Schoolhouse has taken an approach with learning I have never seen before. It's like a decentralized network for learning, where everyone contributes to its growth in some way or the other. I feel proud to be a part of this organization, since I am sure that it will skyrocket in a few years. Providing free global education on almost every topic there is, is something I never thought would be possible. I'm glad the schoolhouse proved me wrong. Generations now and upwards will be very lucky with this, since all you need is internet and a device to learn, making education available even for the weaker sections of society.

My new journey as a tutor

Mar 14, 2023

Starting my tutoring journey on Schoolhouse has been a great experience. I've been tutoring AP World History for my past sessions, teaching my learners how to write FRQs and tackle MCQs. Being able to help them and make them feel more comfortable and confident in tackling certain concepts brings me happiness. Peers helping other peers is what makes Schoolhouse so special. Like my math teacher always says," We learn more when working together". Schoolhouse has brought us together in tutoring and learning a wide variety of subjects from STEM to the humanities. By helping my peers, not only am I growing as a tutor, I'm also growing as a learner.

There I was, on the AoPS site. Someone in the community said something about a weird tutoring site called Schoolhouse! Might be a good place to get some volunteer hours! I got myself certified in 3 topics within one day, then decided that I would start a session. I started a stopwatch to time how many minutes I would teach for. But OMG, the time flew by while teaching! I loved the thrill of listening to the understanding in their voices, the feeling of confidence flooding through them! I loved it! I already have another session lined up, and am hoping to start a series soon, after I get finals wrapped up.

Learning NEW things

Jan 28, 2023

As a student, an old-er student at that, you think all learning will feel the same and it does NOT. Going back to college, let alone it being strictly online, it's truly been a struggle with trying to regrasp concepts and fundamentals. Re-learning what I wrongly taught myself and even the part of asking for help. I found this amazing website that is completely free!! I wish I had something this special in high school it would have been an amazing tool to have under my belt. The peer tutors really have a heart of patience, thus far each person has been patient, kind, and very understanding with the level I'm at. This is the best source of help that I will now always recommend to all! Thank you so much!

Extremely Beneficial and Helpful to All Students

Sep 29, 2022

Since I first started Schoolhouse, I’ve been so amazed by the wonderful formatting and different subjects to engage each and every learner with different approaches from each and every tutor. It’s super helpful that schoolhouse recommends you both live sessions and series that suit your needs but also allows you to explore and deep dive into different content; such as hobbies, games, math, language, technology, and more! Not only does this help learners, it helps tutors too! By tutoring some sessions on Schoolhouse, it will give you public speaking experience as well as some volunteering credits (if in high school). Overall, I’m super glad that I discovered Schoolhouse and am sure it will be very helpful whenever I’m in a bind or just want some exposure to new things!

An Amazing Tutoring Program

Aug 8, 2022

I'm currently a rising sophomore in high school and helping others learn and understand concepts more fundamentally has always been an activity to which I have aspired. With schoolhouse.world, I have been able to help users of this site to understand Statistics, Calculus, Physics, along with other concepts, more fundamentally and intuivively, which is continually encouraged. I have learned, not just how to teach and acquire an understanding of a certain subject through this program, but also how to interact and assess the progress of my learners. I am currently enrolled in Real Analysis, Number Theory, and other physics courses through an online Stanford program (along with self-studying Partial Differential Equations and Quantum Physics) and must say that, even though these subjects are thought-intriguing and somewhat challenging (although quite elementary), I have learned much more through the process of tutoring and connecting with learners than through any concept I have attempted to grasp on my own. Because of this, I must humbly thank this program for offerring such great opportunities for learning and improvement as both a tutor, and, more generally, as a person.

Who would ever believe you can get free tutoring from a purchase-free website? For so long, I've been trying to find the best free resources to help me catch up and prepare for my future study, but every website I visited–as expected–required premium purchases and so on. The moment I jumped on SchoolHouse, I felt something different...The website was really pretty, and the fonts and the design...I knew this was a life changer. I soon began joining sessions, where I met many enthusiastic learners and entertaining tutors willing to help people worldwide. SchoolHouse opened me up o a new field where I could explore new content and topics that I could not find alone. And it's not only about learning, but it's also a door to meet and discuss with people from the other half of the earth.

*I know I shared a story a while ago, but something else wonderful happened so yea... Yesterday, I hosted a session called "ESL Club for Vietnamese speakers," well, the session was great, everything went smoothly until we go to the debate part, which it's like 9 pm for me so I was tired already and couldn't keep the vibe going. So we stopped and have a talk. I found out all of my learners are all older than me, wow, one already has kids, one is graduating college and one is a junior in high school (I'm a rising sophomore). We got a talk about everything, all in English, then I found out, that their English is so good that just do not get put on the spot and get stressed. I was confused since the topic was a culture which is a big thing in most Asian countries. I found out, that I was directing the topic in a less genuine way, so they were struggling. I'm getting too much into their personality, LOL. Okay so, I believe anyone could be a learner, everyone is a learner. So, if you're a tutor and stop your learning career? Slow down and try to be both, it will benefit you!

Elegance

Jul 1, 2022

The beauty of schoolhouse is honestly, to the next level, it should be marketed though, since the website is very nice, but not many people use it, and hence miss out..and keep complaining. I honestly found about about SHW through a YouTube video, and trust me, it changed my life, I have been here for 2 months, and I am just so happy with it. I wake up at 3 am just to attend some of the classes, that's how much SHW has affected me. I, for the very first time in my life, enjoy learning

Progress

Jun 30, 2022

It has been around 3 months since I joined SHW, and I can't say I have been less happy throughout! I have worked through long nights and heavy days, scorching suns and lonely moons, and I still don't regret a single thing. Before Schoolhouse, I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life beyond research in the STEM field, and now I know my calling (at least for now) is to teach.

Educating Beyond Horizons

May 12, 2022

The idea 💡 of learning, tutoring and sharing across the globe 🌎 for free, itself gives a new dimension to schooling . Hello 👋 I'm Ika , a 10th grader from India 🇮🇳 and I've been a part of the SHW community since January 2022 . It's both exciting, overwhelming and very remarkable how I can connect with people from all around the world , share my insights, and serve the community at the same time . Schoolhouse is the ultimate hub for students across the globe. To be a part of the community itself has changed a lot in my life , from learning different skills, getting advice for college , and being stress-free about my doubts cause I can always count on different features on SHW. Someone on the other side is always eager to help 🤝. I would have never been able to enjoy tutoring and online classes so much,if something like schoolhouse didn't exist. Although it's just been a couple of months , tutoring has become my daily routine now . I really hope more and more people join this community, and one day it'll finally be able to be a part of every students life ❤.

I find helping others extremely fulfilling. During the COVID-19 crisis, I felt helpless because I wasn't able to physically help others. I found Schoolhouse in the start of 2021, and tutoring has filled the void in my heart. I feel immensely grateful that I'm able to help students become confident with their knowledge. It has been a very rewarding experience and each time I see an impact that I created here, it makes my heart feel full and happy! ❤️

Learning

Feb 17, 2022

During the pandemic, everything went out of order. In my country, schools were closed for about 3 years now and we are still not sure about reopening. I was worried because it scared me that my quality of learning will decline and I cannot hire a tutor financially. Since the pandemic has opened a lot of online opportunities, I figured maybe I could search for an online platform where I could learn. Later on, I stumbled upon "schoolhouse.world". It was amazing since I didn't have to pay, reveal my personal details, and I did not have a hard time using it since it is very accessible. The global community amazed me. It was amazing a shared love for learning integrated how different people from different parts of the world.

A wonderful and supportive community

Jan 12, 2022

In November 2021, I was a high school junior who was trying to find resources to get further ahead in school. Khan Academy had always been my lifeline. One day in November, while studying calculus, I stumbled upon the recordings of the “Ask Sal anything” sessions on the Khan Academy YouTube channel. From those videos, I heard about schoolhouse and then tried to get to know more about it. I ultimately decided to join schoolhouse to get more help in getting ahead in school, thinking that I would attend sessions from other tutors which would be helpful for me. I got to know that I could become a tutor right when I joined schoolhouse, but I completely ignored it, thinking “How on earth can I, just a high school junior, be a tutor?”. I then started attending sessions, and then after seeing all the amazing tutors who were of my age and how confident and supportive they were, I got inspired and became motivated to become a tutor. I was someone who always wanted to help students, who, like me, did not have access to high-quality education. This further motivated me to become a tutor. Ultimately, all that motivation and inspiration made me to decide to become a tutor about a month later, in December 2021. When I became a tutor, all of the community was really supportive and helped me out in any issues that I was facing in tutoring. I requested to be matched with a mentor for help in some issues that I was facing, and he organised a session and helped me and was really supportive. I can surely say that just after a few weeks of becoming a tutor and hosting a few sessions, schoolhouse has really helped me in firstly, improving my communication skills, and also helped me in achieving my dream of helping students with not a lot of access to high-quality education. One thing that I’ll surely remember for the rest of my life is the amazing community and the amazing people that I’ve met!

Tutoring Makes Us Think More

Nov 3, 2021

I was in 12th Grade preparing for my final exams and various competitive tests in April 2021, when I got an email from my school about a peer-to-peer tutoring platform. I'd wanted to hold online tutoring sessions independently after my Medical Entrance Test (NEET-UG) but I wasn't sure about the means and the marketing. Schoolhouse made me think of accelerating my tutoring plans, thus helping me in my own tests as well. I understood that all of us were struggling with online classes with large class strengths during the pandemic, and a smaller class size with more personal attention would be better. It would be a two-way benefit as the learners get a chance to learn from more tutors than they would in school, and tutors can improve their concepts. For example, if I have an exam close to my session, I take a review session with my learners where they ask good questions. I now have the opportunity to interact with learners with varied interests and backgrounds, some who come for exam help and some who come for concepts which they don't usually get a chance to learn. Many times, learners ask questions that startle me! I wouldn't have thought about it before, but the questions make me think differently and I look into the questions they ask. I also interact with an extremely supportive amazing community where we all help each other when we need it. Nowadays, I seem to relate with my teachers often on the struggles they face during online classes. Tutoring has also helped me in my success across competitive exams in India. I was apprehensive about giving my email and name to register on a site, but now that I look at it, Schoolhouse.world has been very safe and when my confidence level is low, I have my fellow tutors who give me the best advice!! I'm really happy to be a part of this initiative to help students in these times!!

A New Worldview

Aug 25, 2021

Schoolhouse.world has helped me meet and connect with people from all over the world, from so many different backgrounds (yet somehow we share so much in common). It has showed me that there are people who genuinely want to learn, and people who genuinely want to help. I first came onto this site as a learner in July 2020 desperate for AP Calc help, and now most of the sessions I tutor are for AP Calc. That's crazy to me, but something about Schoolhouse's environment and its people has pushed me to slowly get out of my comfort zone. During COVID and virtual school in 2020-2021, I almost forgot what human connection was like, but Schoolhouse really showed me that sometimes the worst possible situations can still make way for the best things, too.

Helping Me Stay On Track

Aug 25, 2021

Schoolhouse has helped me prepare for school by helping me understand the topics I need to learn. The website was available to me when my school and extracurricular activities were canceled. I have been able to fully understand all my subjects from the Skeletal System to Piecewise Functions. There is a wide array of sessions to choose from. I have also been able to learn a new language using schoolhouse. After my sessions on Schoolhouse, most topics were easier to understand and finish. I have also attended SAT practice sessions as well as sessions on the application process to college. Schoolhouse has been able to keep me ahead of my classes in school and interest me in new topics.

Selfish to Selfless

Aug 25, 2021

The reason I joined School House is probably not like most, it wasn't because I was motivated to teach(though I am now) or wanted to increase my knowledge but it was because I was applying to a school and wanted another thing to list on my resume. This was the selfish intent I actually joined School House World with but it has turned into so much more. As soon as I hosted my first session that intent dropped away. I got such positive feedback and engaging learners that I knew I wanted to teach more and help impact learners in that same way. Ever since I have tried my hardest to tutor(for 25 sessions) not for an achievement but to help others in the way those first learners taught me a lesson in character. A little into my time at School House World I became more and more active in the community of tutors. I became invested in seeing SHW grow and expand and this led me to try and join multiple teams. Currently, I am apart of the User Support, Onboarding Buddies, and Auditing team and happy about it since each role allows me to make a difference here at School House World. To conclude, I joined for a selfish reason(to add to my resume) and the result was amazing as now I was able to increase my teaching skills, learn how to make an impact, interact with other tutors, and learn character skills such as patience, perseverance and most importantly 𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨.

How a Big Brother is helpful

Aug 25, 2021

My brother has been a part of schoolhouse.world since December and he was annoying me to join schoolhouse to receive help with Mathematics and SAT Exams which I will soon take. I initially joined with the impression of only being a learner, get ready for the different exams I will take this year and then leave. However, something attracted me to be a tutor and when I finally got certified, I was introduced to an awesome community of people! My onboarding buddy was really helpful and answered all my initial questions. Mariah, the Head of Community hosted a session for new tutors so we would meet and discuss the problems we faced in our first sessions. I got to personally meet a bunch of tutors who were facing the same initial problems I was! I soon got to be a part of various teams on schoolhouse and all of them led me to meeting a different kinds of awesome people from all around the globe, be it the welcoming tours team, the user support team or the auditing team. All of them made me feel at home virtually which is a great feat to achieve! It has been a great journey for me and I cannot wait for the next chapters I will go through here at schoolhouse!!

I was failing my MYP Biology Class!

Sep 16, 2024

Last year I was taking MYP Biology, My tutor was the best. He never missed a day and was on time. His power points were clear and concise. I understood lessons. I was able to learn without all of the distractions and he took his time. Instead of taking a bunch of notes, I was able to learn and get a clear explanation of each lesson. My teacher was out a lot and the substitutes just showed us videos. I passed my Biology EOC with a level 4. I'm so thankful for my tutor.

SohCahToa

I used to think that I would never be able to solve a trigonometry problem. So when I saw a triangle question pop up on my Schoolhouse practice test, I froze up. However, I remembered going over the mnemonic “SohCahToa” with my schoolhouse tutor during a SAT math session. Confidently, I solved the problem by applying what I learned. Even though I didn’t get the question right due to forgetting to simplify the answer, my tutor and I were proud of progress I made. I was proud of solving something I never thought I could solve.

Why SCHOOLHOUSE is a MUST?

Aug 6, 2024

The Schoolhouse Community is doing an exciting job by creating all the possible opportunities for the students and tutors in the United States and around the world and thus it's making great positive changes. I joined Schoolhouse a few days ago to help me improve my DSAT score by joining helpful DSAT bootcamp sessions and after attending only one session I can tell you all that I wish I joined long ago. Since there are many diverse resources and opportunities as it's continuously expanding day by day, Schoolhouse can be one of the most important factors in a student's/tutor's life. All the Best!

The Learner behind the Tutor

Jul 1, 2024

Like many tutors on schoolhouse, I initially joined earlier this year to host SAT bootcamps. I don't think I realized at the time how much I would grow to love it. I remember being extremely nervous before my first session, as I was worried I wouldn't be able to make myself understandable to my learners. While I'd always been fairly comfortable communicating in writing, speaking aloud was something I had more difficulties with. But the schoolhouse community was so overwhelmingly welcoming, its members friendly and understanding. I quickly realized that the culture of schoolhouse, amongst tutors and learners alike, was one of collaboration and unity. Everyone worked together to solve problems, to give constructive feedback, and to help the newer members of the community adjust to the environment. I met some of the most amazing people, in all senses of the word. These people were abundant in their kindness, excited to share their knowledge and overall crucial members of the schoolhouse family. As I became increasingly confident in my abilities to take the lead, I decided I wanted to explore other parts of the schoolhouse platform. I was particularly drawn to chemistry, a subject I'd taken at AP level that same school year, and been a little obsessed with ever since. With my mind lingering on the topic after the AP exam, I took the time to get certified- maybe a little too much time, as I wanted to revisit most of the units to make sure I had a good recollection of the material, as well as I genuinely enjoyed doing the practice. I was thrilled to begin hosting chemistry sessions. What I loved most was getting to teach AND learn at the same time. I tutored learners who had hardly taken a single chemistry class, were unfamiliar with much of the terminology, and some who hardly spoke english. But it was these same learners that talked to me about experiments they'd conducted in their own homes, shared surprising real world applications of the material, and who connected chemistry to other subjects and used it to explain everyday happenings. It was the learners who made me stop to think critically, often times posing unexpected research questions or abstract hypotheticals. Discussions like these drove me to search more, to look more deeply into topics I'd thought I'd mastered before, but was now questioning my understanding of. If someone asked what schoolhouse did for me, this is what I would say: it taught me that even as a tutor, I would always be a learner, and that I would always have a place to be welcomed as both.

From Being Hesitant to Being Confident

Jun 3, 2024

I've been a tutor at SHW for about 3 years now. I haven't been hosting sessions recently because I had to attend tons of classes in my final years of high school. But now that school's over and I'm heading off to medical school, I've decided to come right back to this amazing community, because why not? I remember being enthralled when my dad sent me a LinkedIn post about SHW a few years ago. Free sessions? I'm in!! To be honest, I never really thought I would enjoy it as much as I did. A few days in and I was impressed by the friendly, helpful tutors and the quality of their teaching. I used to join SAT sessions at weird timings because it wasn't always possible for tutors to match timings in my country. Was I kind of sleepy? Yes. Did I love it anyway? Also, yes!! I was an introvert back then and I hated speaking in front of strangers. When my mom noticed I was being hesitant to get a certification, she tried her best to encourage me. In addition to this, I got a lot of support watching new tutors share the struggles they faced. I decided to give it a go and bam! Got certified in a day and hosted my first session. The first 'Super Helpful' and positive feedback got me elated. I met people from different places and it was so much fun! I then decided to join the Audit team. I wasn't really confident but I remember how Mariah sent me an encouraging message right after my first attempt at auditing. SHW really made me a more confident person. When my interviewers for medical colleges asked me about my volunteering experience, I didn't just tell them how I helped out learners, but also how learners helped me grow as a person and how I made tons of friends! Not only is SHW a perfect opportunity to volunteer, it provides a thrilling and wholesome experience.

Learning While Teaching

May 7, 2024

I had already taken the SAT, but I was planning on taking it again to get a better score. I got a 1490 the first time, and I decided to join and tutor people on their reading and writing. This process allowed me to pass on the experience I learned preparing for and taking the SAT my first time, but it also gave me new materials and strategies that I adopted to do better the second time around. I attribute the 1580 I got the second time around to the BootCamp I hosted.

To Make A Difference

Mar 9, 2024

I joined schoolhouse very recently, as a SAT Bootcamp Tutor. I received an email from CollegeBoard informing me of the opportunity, and, safe to say, my interest was piqued. I completely self-studied for my own SAT, and it was difficult at times. Although I had a host of resources, especially Khan Academy, I had nobody who I could turn to for questions, nobody who could offer me advice on parts of the SAT that went beyond just content, like pacing and what order to do the questions in. I had to teach myself all of that. Upon learning about the SAT Bootcamps offered at Schoolhouse, I remember thinking that this was the sort of support I would have loved to have while I was studying for my own SAT. So, I figured, why not? I'd get the chance to help people like I wished I'd been helped, and I had nothing to lose. I was incredibly nervous for my first session. I've always been an extremely shy person, and I had zero prior tutoring experience - what if I wasn't a good tutor? What if I let my learners down? But, as the sessions went on, I grew more comfortable, more confident. My learners were understanding what I was teaching them; I was doing okay, at the very least. I stopped fearing how to tutor. Watching my learners grow more comfortable as well, watching them answer questions correctly or have the bravery to admit that they didn't know the answer - it always made me smile. Watching their practice test scores tick up as the bootcamp went on made me so incredibly proud. I didn't even know them, but they were putting in the work, actively participating, and improving as a result. Words cannot describe how proud I was to see that. Schoolhouse has given me the opportunity to help others, utilizing my own strengths. It has given me the opportunity to make a difference - a real, valuable difference, no matter how small. I can help people just like myself, caught in the highs and lows of school, just trying to do their best. I can be part of the reason for someone's smile, as they fall back in their chair and just stare at their SAT score - just like I did, when I saw my own score. I can be part of the reason somebody gets their dream score, somebody gets a scholarship, somebody gets admitted to their dream college, somebody falls in love with a subject. I've always wanted to help people, and now I can, on a far larger scale than I was ever able to before. And that - that means the world to me.

The Non-judgemental Uplifting Space of Schoolhouse

Mar 5, 2024

Late 2021, I was kind of lost with the pandemic, political issues of my country and schools closing down. I had just finished 7th grade. I was trying to gain knowledge on my own while staying at home. Using Khan Academy, i was learning math, science ,coding, etc. It provided me with huge help with the premade videos and quizzes. Obviously, I was bored not being able to go to school. One day, I just sat with my laptop and was searching whatever popped up in my mind where I found the amazing schoolhouse. At first, I was in absolute shock that such platform even existed when I found out that I can join zoom sessions. I quickly signed up and toured through the website. I joined my first ever session and since I have never in my life learned something in english face to face with a tutor, It took me a while to actually start speaking in sessions. For that, I am eternally grateful for the amazing tutors and the warm space that schoolhouse provided for me. One thing I love about schoolhouse is no one here will judge you for not knowing something. Everyone is a learner and a tutor. With all the amazing help, for the first time in my life, I overcame something I never thought I would, which was joining an MUN session. Even tho it was just a mock MUN, It was way out of my comfort zone but was such an amazing experience trying to get out of it and I learned amazing new things from it. I fell in love with schoolhouse and started joining more sessions. At that time, i would have never thought that I would even imagine applying to be a tutor. I thought I won't be able to but I finally did at the end of 2023. Even tho I have no hosted any sessions yet because of a lot of reasons, it is definitely one of my 2024 goals to try hosting a session as a new tutor. Currently, I volunteer helping people through comments when I can. If there is one thing schoolhouse has taught me, it is to never underestimate the skills that I have and how great of a help it can be to others. Nor to overestimate your skills because all the amazing people at schoolhouse will humble you. Overall, schoolhouse has become a big part of my life, made me become more confident in myself, helps unimaginably with my school works and always provide with interactive and fun space.

Language is not a big factor!!!

Feb 16, 2024

As a learner from Bangladesh, I joined SHW in April, from that time every session I attend was math from a long ago I faced a lot of problems in math. SHW tutors basically follow the international language its normal for every international platform, but it was very first me learning math in other language. I was confused and nervous, but I won that fear because the whole worldwide math has an equal balance. So, from that time and so far, until now I am teaching and learning math in English. Math has a language which every people from various country understands and thanks to SHW to make this journey better.

Falling in Love With Education

Jan 4, 2024

I first joined Schoolhouse as an SAT Bootcamp tutor. When I received an invitation, I was interested in the idea of fully online volunteer tutoring and figured that I might as well try. After my first session, I immediately fell in love with both teaching and education as a whole. I was amazed by the bravery that my learners possessed to meet with me, at the time a stranger, to grow academically. I found myself losing any fear I had of teaching as the session progressed, and it made me so excited when one of them would correctly answer a question about a concept I taught. I wasn't sure why I was so happy at first, but after the series ended it clicked: My tutoring specifically was making a visible difference. After hosting several more sessions, I began to realize that teaching wasn't the only thing I loved about these sessions. I loved the exposure to diverse interests and personalities, I cherished the little notes of feedback my learners wrote to me, both positive and negative, and I adored preparing for my sessions and both reviewing the material myself and learning new information while I prepared. The constant growth on both ends, the varied interactions with my learners, and the desire to contribute as much as possible to a session, THIS is what is special about education as a whole, and I loved every second of it. I continued to branch out at Schoolhouse: I tutored a greater variety of subjects, joined several teams, and began leading a team of my own. However, this did not deter my newfound love for education; it fostered it. Education is not just limited to academic learning; rather, we can learn through new experiences, through observing and working with others, and through the desire to make change, be it personal or external. Through Schoolhouse, I fell in love with every aspect of education, and I cannot be more grateful that it happened.

Best SAT Tutors Ever!

Dec 22, 2023

I want to take this moment to give a simple shoutout to my tutor Mary! She was the best tutor every! I love her classes, because they helped me a lot! I also want to give another shoutout to Preethi, my first tutor! Hello, my name is Vivian. I am from China, and my first language is not english. Learning english is hard enough for me. I endured many hardships before shaping my accent, and speaking fluently. Acing the SAT is a nightmare when I've not yet been on SHW, and met these awesome tutors. I am so grateful that I've met Mary and Preethi, who are both great tutors! Best wishes to you two, and Merry Christmas!!!

Unmatched Enthusiasm

Nov 25, 2023

When I schedule a session on a topic that I am proficient in, a learner can expect to be met with enthusiasm when they join a session with me. One day, while tutoring a session in Python, I realized that I enjoy the curiosity that the learners bring to a session. One may assume that something without any cost has less value than something that does, but Schoolhouse has shown me that value actually lies in perspective. The learners who join my sessions have a big passion for learning and applying the knowledge that I teach, and I think that is such a beautiful thing to experience as a tutor.

Catch 22 - A cycle that helps both tutors and learners!

Nov 17, 2023

Hi! I am Sri, and I am studying in the IB curriculum (as a DP1 student). I take Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Maths and European Languages. I came across Schoolhouse.world in hopes to find communities where I can tutor as a volunteer, in order to help out learners! From the SHW experience, teaching is much like a catch 22 cycle - Learners benefit from new material, but I also benefit from teaching the material - as a revision for my exams in 2025! This really is the best way that benefits both tutors and learners! Thank you so much SHW for organizing such a wonderful community! :)

Learning from Each Other

Aug 29, 2023

I still remember the months leading up to my SAT: weeks reviewing key concepts after school, cramming random study sessions, while the weekends were spent on practice tests and reviewing those mistakes (fun times). While all that preparation was instrumental in helping me achieve a score close to my goal, looking back made me realize the key thing I was missing in those times - motivation. Specifically from others going through the same journey as me. That's why I joined as a tutor on SchoolHouse; I wanted to create a space where learners could practice and prepare together, while also giving them advice as someone who'd just recently been in their shoes - and I'm so glad I did! I got to meet amazing learners who had their own strengths and approaches to the test, giving me fresh perspectives on how to tackle questions and prepare more effectively. They provided amazing feedback, actively engaged in every session, and gave me a space to practice my communication skills (still a work in progress)! I highly recommend others to try tutoring on SchoolHouse too - not just for the volunteer hours (a great bonus), but also for the skills you learn and the experience you can apply in your future careers and projects. Because this was a space where we learned from each other. Together.

SHW: My experience from a learner to a tutor

Jul 28, 2023

We all started as learners. We joined sessions, explored the platform, and joined many series. And then, we became tutors. We started teaching others and sharing our knowledge with people all over the world. Literally. This is my experience starting from a learner, to where I am now. I still remember the day I hosted my first ever session on schoolhouse. It was on percentages, the only topic I was certified in at that time. I remember feeling so nervous, and almost wanting to delete the session when I saw that a learner joined. I wasn't expecting that. I practiced and practiced and practiced, making sure I knew what I was going to say. My sister was right in front of me when I started the session. The learner joined soon after, and I started teaching. At first, I would mix up my words and forget what I was saying, but slowly, I started to get a hang of it. I stopped trembling and started to sort of enjoy it. After the session ended, the first thing I did was go to the feedback page and waited until finally, it came. I was ecstatic to find positive feedback from what I thought was not a very good session. The second time I hosted a session, I remember hoping that no one joined but to my surprise, and dismay, someone did join. Two. It went so much better, I felt more confident in my teaching, and I was so happy to see two more positive feedbacks. I wish I could say that all my fear of tutoring left me after that session, but ... well, It was after at least seven sessions that I felt fully confident. Now, I host regular sessions for live help, pre-algebra sessions, and fun enrichment series like writing competitions and interactive Game nights. I have over 70 positive ratings and have hosted 61 sessions. To any new tutor out there, let me just say, it gets better.

My Experience with Schoolhouse.world: Unlocking a World of Learning

Jun 3, 2023

Education is the cornerstone of personal growth and development. It equips us with knowledge, skills, and the confidence to navigate the world around us. However, not everyone has equal access to quality education or the resources needed to excel academically. That's where Schoolhouse.world comes in—a revolutionary online learning platform that connects learners with volunteers from around the globe. As a student with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to excel, I stumbled upon Schoolhouse.world while searching for additional support in my studies. Little did I know that this platform would transform my learning experience and open up a world of opportunities. The concept behind Schoolhouse.world is simple yet powerful. It leverages the expertise and passion of volunteers to provide free, one-on-one tutoring in various subjects to students who need extra help. The platform was founded by Sal Khan, the visionary educator who also created Khan Academy, another popular online learning platform. Getting started with Schoolhouse.world was effortless. I created an account, filled out a profile, and selected the subject I needed assistance with—mathematics. The platform's intuitive interface made it easy to navigate, and within minutes, I was connected with a volunteer tutor who specialized in the topic. My first session with my tutor was eye-opening. Not only was she highly knowledgeable, but she was also incredibly patient and skilled at breaking down complex concepts into digestible pieces. Unlike in a traditional classroom setting, where time constraints and distractions can hinder personalized attention, Schoolhouse.world allowed me to receive individualized support tailored to my specific learning needs. What sets Schoolhouse.world apart is its emphasis on fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Tutors are not just experts in their respective subjects; they are passionate individuals dedicated to empowering students and instilling a love for learning. The tutors I worked with were not only knowledgeable but also excellent communicators who made me feel comfortable asking questions and seeking clarification. Another aspect that impressed me was the platform's commitment to collaboration. In addition to one-on-one tutoring sessions, Schoolhouse.world hosts virtual group study sessions where students can learn from each other, solve problems together, and foster a sense of community. These study sessions encouraged collaboration and helped me develop valuable teamwork and communication skills. Beyond the academic support, Schoolhouse.world provided me with a sense of connection and belonging. It's a global community of learners and educators coming together with a shared goal of empowering students. The platform's user-friendly interface, real-time chat features, and interactive whiteboard tools facilitated seamless communication and engagement. My experience with Schoolhouse.world has been transformative. Not only did it enhance my understanding of challenging subjects, but it also instilled in me a love for learning and a desire to give back. Inspired by the volunteers who dedicated their time and expertise, I, too, decided to become a tutor on the platform, helping other students who may be struggling with the same subjects I once struggled with. Schoolhouse.world is more than just a learning platform; it's a movement that seeks to bridge educational gaps and empower students worldwide. It has provided me with the support, resources, and connections that have transformed my educational journey. If you're a student seeking additional academic support or a passionate individual looking to make a difference, I highly recommend Schoolhouse.world. It's a place where knowledge knows no boundaries, and the possibilities for growth are endless. Embrace the opportunity to learn, connect, and unlock your full potential with Schoolhouse.world.

Streamlining Spontaneous Learning

May 31, 2023

Everyone has had this moment: you're sitting in class, and the teacher hands out the assignment and goes back to their desk. Someone at your table whispers, "I wonder if...", and before you know it, the entire classroom is buzzing with discussion about right triangles, acute angles, and perpendicular bisectors. But then- it stops. The classroom is silenced, sent back to work. The key to replicating these moments lies in understanding why they happen. I believe it comes down to friendship. When you are with your friends, people just like you, the barriers to communication dissolve instantly. The moment from the classroom, where suddenly everyone has an idea they must share - that is the power of friendship combined with learning. In the seven months I've spent with Schoolhouse, I learned a very important lesson: I am not just your tutor - I am your friend. I relate to you, I get you, because I'm your peer. I'm a student just like you are, just like all the other amazing tutors helping others on Schoolhouse. This is the true power of Schoolhouse; emphasizing humanity and friendship to enable learning.

The benefits of tutoring!

Apr 11, 2023

I've been tutoring on Schoolhouse for about two months now, and I have to say it has changed me for the better in numerous ways. Through tutoring, I have gained confidence, courage in myself, and leadership skills. I was also able to get over my longtime fear of public speaking. On the whole, I benefitted from tutoring in unimaginable ways and genuinely enjoy my SAT tutoring sessions, and will continue to tutor with Schoolhouse in the future.

Schoolhouse.world is revolutionary. The platform is so well-made and the community is so friendly, professional, and uplifting. My time at Schoolhouse has helped me become a more mature person and allowed me to reach new horizons. As a student who had moved to the US just before my freshman year of high school and as a student who is studying online, I had very little knowledge of how the system worked and was restricted to what my school offered me. However, after joining Schoolhouse I learned that there was so much more! I realized that not all people are as fortunate as me and felt the sorrow after learning the difficulties some faced. At the same time, I felt intense joy after being able to successfully help learners understand the topics they struggled in. At the same time, Schoolhouse has benefitted me as a learner just as much as it has benefitted me as a tutor. As mentioned earlier, when I first came to the US, I had no idea how the system worked. However, thanks to Schoolhouse's college prep sessions I was able to understand how to navigate through the system. In addition, community sessions such as the very recent Schoolhouse MUN are such a great experience where you can interact with people from across the globe. The opportunities at Schoolhouse are endless but no matter how much I elaborate, I can only say so much with words. Only thing I can tell you is if you are reading this, don't delay it, go ahead and sign up for Schoolhouse now!

From a Puddle to an Ocean - Teaching Marine Biology through Schoolhouse

Jan 16, 2023

I have actually never heard of Schoolhouse until a friend told me about the peer tutoring format they used. I was honestly intrigued by the user-friendly format, and how simple it was to become a tutor. But once I tried out a session, judging by the teaching, I realized they were extremely selective of who becomes a tutor. I tried it out, and became a tutor myself. I have a huge interest in Marine Biology, and I decided to teach it through this website. I honestly didn't expect the incredible interest, and I had multiple positive reviews. I also had a peer review, which helped me realize my flaws and just proved that Schoolhouse really does stay with you the whole path, and always offers help in times of need. In the end of my series, my group was extremely satisfied with the content, and I can happily say Schoolhouse is one of the best mentors I have ever had.

Joining a Community of Learning & Teaching

Jan 1, 2023

I have felt like an outsider my entire life. I have felt left out because I was different. You're probably wondering, "Why were you different?" Here's the answer: I loved learning and teaching. I wanted to drink up the world of knowledge and spread that knowledge to other people like a seed growing roots. Most people weren't like me. They thought I was weird. Because of those people, I kind of hid away that part of me. Until Schoolhouse. For me, joining Schoolhouse was basically arriving to a new planet. Suddenly, I was surrounded by brilliant and eager-to-learn people who inspired me to keep going and follow my passion of learning and teaching. I met other learners who asked questions that made me think more critically and deeply than I had ever done before. I met tutors certified in topics I had never even known about, and listening to their explanations was truly mind-blowing and inspirational. Schoolhouse is probably one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. I realized that, and I realized that I wanted to do more. I wanted to also become a tutor. When I became a tutor, my impression of Schoolhouse only became better. I realized that this was a safe community to make mistakes and learn. People in Schoolhouse cared about keeping this community engaging, safe, and fun. I started hosting my own sessions, and I taught students who actually wanted to learn. That only made me love Schoolhouse even more. I have grown so much thanks to Schoolhouse. I've met amazing peers who inspire me to grow. Schoolhouse, in a way, is like Khan Academy--that one thing that all children need to reach their full potential. Thank you so much, Schoolhouse. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

The Beginning

Dec 28, 2022

I joined Schoolhouse the last summer, when my friend told me that a website gives interesting lessons with interactive and friendly tutors. I have attended 31 sessions for now and every new sessions confirms that this site is the best for the learner and the tutor. What made me more excited is that becoming a tutor is easy and super helpful for your career, especially if you dream of joining international Universities like MIT and Uchicago. I wish I can have a scholarship to study in MIT because the fees are incredible and unaffordable. I am on my way to become a tutor in the schoolhouse world and I will try my best to join MIT community. I hope learners in this website are enjoying sessions Good Luck for everyone. Thank you SchoolHouse!!

Schoolhouse - A place where dreams come into reality

Dec 10, 2022

I always had a passion for teaching biology but I wasn't getting many opportunities. When I have discovered schoolhouse (although a bit late!) it felt like a dream coming true! I was nervous in my first session and wasn't sure what to expect and how learners would respond. However, I had some excellent that were interacting with me during the session and really gave me the feeling of teaching and looking at their reviews at the end of every session is what pushes me to become better and find new things in order to help students across the world to learn, and in my case learn Biology. Through schoolhouse I can teach biology and hopefully learners through my sessions are able to learn and get something out of my sessions.

If only I knew about Schoolhouse earlier

Nov 22, 2022

I've always loved teaching, but ever since I learned about schoolhouse through the sat bootcamps I instantly fell in love. I was able to use my skills to help people that were actually motivated to learn. Before I was teaching kids that had no interest to learn and their parents were forcing them to learn, but with schoolhouse the education and knowledge goes to those who will benefit the most from it. I absolutely love this program and am proud to be a schoolhouse tutor.

Schoolhouse: A Place of Purpose

Nov 17, 2022

I got invited into Schoolhouse to run an SAT Bootcamp, and I was immediately drawn in. A place where learners can get tutors online, absolutely free? Where anyone with the qualifications can volunteer as a tutor? I had tutored in other volunteer projects before and I absolutely loved my time in those projects. Naturally, Schoolhouse was the perfect platform for me to continue doing what I love: teaching! I've learned so much about being a tutor during my time here: the tutor trainings available taught me so much more about how to engage with my students and teach effectively. Teaching at Schoolhouse is a joy: every time I tutor, I am always greeted by wonderful learners. Every time I hear a Eureka moment - an 'Ohhh!' or an 'I think I get it now!' - I always feel a massive sense of joy knowing that my sessions are fulfilling their purpose. The sense of purpose I get from tutoring at Schoolhouse and helping others learn never fades, and it is rejuvenating. I always wake up looking forward to hosting my next session, and I can't wait to host many more here at Schoolhouse!

Schoolhouse is a Great Platform

Nov 8, 2022

I learned about schoolhouse through an email from college board. I was scrolling though all my mail and found an email inviting to participate in a free SAT Bootcamp which was part of a research study. When I did some research into schoolhouse, I was like, what, all these services are free???? They offer so many free aids like free live tutoring, boot camps, community sessions, and so much more!!!! Schoolhouse saved me and gave me much needed practice and motivation to study for the SAT! I still haven’t gotten my results from the SAT back, but I know whatever score I end up with, schoolhouse helped me get there!!!

At first, I learned about Schoolhouse.world through Social Media, and I was like what?! What is this place? I browsed the website, and found out more as I explored, and eventually after being approved within a day, decided to become a tutor! I've had past experience as a tutor, but wasn't able to reach as large as an audience as I'd like to, and schoohouse.world helped me reach a larger audience and help students all over the world. That's why I tutor through schoolhouse.world, because even though we meet through a screen, the learning is endless.

I would 100% recommend this service it shocks me that no one knows about it!

I started joining schoolhouse in 7th grade, it was one day when I desperately needed homework help so I just googled "Free online classes," at that time I didn't have the time to take actual classes or pay for them. Then I began wanting to teach others too, so I created some of my series, hoping others could be as excited as me when I first got here.

How SHW Helped Me

Jul 19, 2022

I remember when I was in middle school I always was willing to help others by teaching them certain things we would learn in class. In middle school, I was mostly quiet but occasionally I would try to be social and make friends. When high school started, it was very hard to meet new people and I found myself losing my confidence. It was hard for me to maintain friendships and I didn't really participate anymore in my classes. I remember finding SHW through other sources and I wanted to try something new. For my first session, I was very nervous with teaching and even one of my learners mentioned how I sounded nervous. Overtime, though, I managed to continue hosting sessions and become more confident with myself. Now, I have been a tutor for over a year and I continue to help new tutors as well. SHW has helped me in many ways, especially with my confidence and has allowed myself to find my voice again.

More than just hours.

Jul 6, 2022

Never in a million years did I think I would be writing this, yet here I am. I'm still not exactly sure what I'm writing. A letter of gratitude? Something to get off my chest? My life story? No idea, but whatever it is, I do want to talk about how schoolhouse has helped me as a person and helped me grow to the person I dreamt to be. Bear with me, it's quite long I've never had a thing for tutoring; I have done things like tutoring my brother or my friend here and there, but I have never considered it to be something that I do daily and ENJOY. If I'm being 100% honest, I only joined schoolhouse for the hours in the beginning. I entered this community through a youtube video promoting the website as a way for some quick hours; which I desperately needed as my school required 50 by the end of the year. With only 2 months left of the school year, and me having collected a grand total of 0 hours, I saw schoolhouse as a way to get quick hours for school. From my very first pre-algebra session with 2 people to today where I have 4 series with a good amount of people signed up; I learned so much from this "website" which I first saw it as. Schoolhouse is more than just a site to sign up, do a certification, get hours, and move on. It's a site where you can meet new people, find out what you like, and maybe find a passion for teaching which you never knew you had? (I certainly found mine!) I also want to state how schoolhouse has helped me as a person. I would say I'm a super socially awkard, quietish kind of person. I believe that tutoring on schoolhouse did wonders in helping me communicate and convey my thoughts/ideas more easily in the real world. During sessions, I am able to talk to others and as a result, improve my social skills, and so much more. I met so many really nice people here and the community has been the most welcoming I've ever met and I love the idea of being able to give out to the community and teach what you're passionate about. Schoolhouse showed me a part of myself I didn't know existed and it's safe to say I'm definitely going to be on this website for a WHILE. On a closing note, I should probably go do my homework I've kept off for a week ;) Adieu!

From Learning to Teaching as a 10th Grader

May 10, 2022

Perhaps the last thing I would have ever thought after starting to learn in Khan Academy is that I would be teaching others as well! As a 10th grader, I always felt like the education system in the United States was made in an inefficient way that did not allow kids to explore their true potential. But after discovering Khan Academy this immediately changed. I learned how easy mathematics, physics, and chemistry could be if taught by the right person. After going from Algebra 2 to learning all of Precalculus in under two months, I will continue tutoring here on schoolhouse to continue enlightening more people. Schoolhouse is innovation, and innovation brings change. I hope the day I die is the day this world becomes a place for everyone to unleash their true potentials and live their best life!

A Miracle

Feb 4, 2022

Hi, I can be a great student with a little push. That push was given to me by my parent when I was younger. They would sit down with me and teach me. But when I came to Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1, they didn't know it either so I was on my own. Teaching is a hard thing to do and getting help for Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 isn't cheap. I would get stuck on a problem often and not know what to do. It is a specific problem that I would get stuck on. When I saw Schoolhouse, I didn't believe it but the first words I read on the website were that it was made by Sal Khan who made Khan Academy. I can't explain how much I benefitted from Schoolhouse. My grades improved and I became less stressed about not knowing how to solve the problem.

Following Their Footsteps

Jan 5, 2022

I used to hate math and science, simply because they were taught in a boring way. But when I stumbled upon math & science YouTube videos, that perspective changed. Channels like Khan Academy, 3Blue1Brown, Veritasium, BlackPenRedPen, FlammableMaths, and many more, explain in such an interesting, fun, yet super insightful way. Their contents make me love math and science. Then I thought, "Hmm...I want to be like them. I want to teach and explain math & science like them." But I didn't know where to start. I considered doing YouTube, but it would be very time-consuming. But then, I heard Sal Khan talking about schoolhouse in a podcast by Grant Sanderson (aka 3Blue1Brown). I was curious yet excited by the idea of providing a platform and a community for tutors to tutor, and learners to learn. So, I immediately sign up and started my tutoring journey. Although I have been a tutor for less than a month, the improvement I got is astounding, mostly thanks to how supportive and respectful this community is. Also, by teaching others, I also learn from my mistakes, thanks to the feedback given by my fellow learners and tutors. I can't wait to see what amazing things schoolhouse will do. I 100% believe this platform will globalize and change education forever. From Indonesia, thank you! :))

Schoolhouse has enabled me to meet so many like-minded peers! In a typical High School class, students often dread certain mandatory scheduled courses. In contrast, schoolhouse learners/tutors voluntarily sign up, at their own time and pace, from anywhere on the planet (that has wifi). They yearn to clarify their doubts or to explore an area of their interest. This intrinsic motivation is key to overcoming academic obstacles. And that is what makes schoolhouse magical!✨

People still assume we lives on tree.

I don't know where to begin. There are a lot of things I wanted to type, but it would be very messy. But know this, Without SHW I wouldn't be able to move on with my homeschool studies and generally academic subjects, especially mathematics. I am from Malaysia, so it would be weird when someone ask me what school do I attend, and I would answer homeschool or simply "I don't go to school, but I do study at home", and their reaction would normally be confused or sometimes be disgusted by the fact I only stay home. Even some of my relatives like my auntie, uncle etc would have the same reaction. And other people beside my relatives would look down on us so much, especially the semenanjung people, because all they know is that Sarawakian, especially the Iban tribe(my tribe) and some other tribes, lives on trees, unmordernised, always drinking aik tuak(rice wine, which is true, but I only drink it during celebrations and for those who have passed away like my dear beloved grandpa Aki, I'm 14 BTW) and among many things. It has truly dishonored my family eversince my parents decided homechool as our way of education, and I want to prove the haters wrong! So thank you itself isn't enough. And I am hoping SHW could extend its topics to music, history, drawing, guitar, piano, languages, martial arts, extra curriculum etc.

The Importance of Sharing Knowledge

Oct 31, 2021

Schoolhouse is an amazing website. The two important reasons that matter to me are the teaching and learning aspects of this website. Hey everyone! I’m Rahul, an 8th grader that lives in the USA right now. Well, sometimes when you learn something new, you have a small urge to teach someone else that. Schoolhouse gave me this option. I can teach math, which I’m the most proficient in right now. Aside from that, I can also teach “vacation” courses, such as a coding class or something else. Schoolhouse is so diverse that no matter what your interests or skills are, you can find a place in this website. That’s what was really appealing. I was introduced to schoolhouse by a relative, and since then I haven’t regretted joining. The number of possibilities is unfathomable, and everyone fits in but stays different. That’s what makes this a great organization. First, I was discouraged when not a lot of people joined my first session, but I decided I would keep going with persistence. After a while, people started joining my sessions, and my goal of knowledge being shared is being fulfilled. Schoolhouse has taught me a lot of things, not just literally, but also morally. I hope the rest of my schoolhouse journey goes well, and I hope to see this website grow and grow.

Opportunity To Make An Impact

Oct 27, 2021

When I joined Schoolhouse in the earlier part of the year, I was new and intimidated. I felt like I was an outsider, having no experience, seeing all of these veterans. However, I started to get to know the community more. I reached out and talked to more people. I also took on additional responsibilities. I believe I am now on most teams at Schoolhouse; being a community resource curator, tutor, user support agent, support team mentor, blog writer, study spaces moderator, safety auditor, member of the WCP team, social event planner, and onboarding staff. This platform is revolutionary for learners, but even more for tutors, as it's full of opportunities and creates a real impact on the world.

Service Project to Passion

Aug 25, 2021

The journey on schoolhouse started started about 2-3 months ago. As a tutor, he had the aim of assisting learners behind on that subject or course, and teach them something new in enrichment (such as a hobby - origami!). As a new tutor, he was initially disappointed that a low amount of people were attending his sessions. This may seem like a downside, but in this story it was not. He saw each learner was unique in their own ways, each with different, amazing personalities, each with different skillsets, and each with different goals on schoolhouse. He began tutoring more and more, meeting more diverse people, reaching a couple more countries, and assisting anyone with the questions they are having. He once met someone attempting to get their GED, and also helped a person who was trying to become a tutor. He also had considerable knowledge in science, and helped a learner with heat transfer during a session on Pre-Algebra! Answering the questions learners have feels so fulfilling and amazing! It feels as if one is impacting the world immensely in a positive way! As he joined another team, tutor onboarding, and as he hosted more sessions, he realized how many different learners there were. He realized that reaching this diverse community was one of the greatest opportunities of his life. Schoolhouse showed him that: 1. No matter the # of people attending, a tutor will always have a profound impact on the learners. 2. Meeting more and more people and helping more and more people from different backgrounds and different objectives feels astonishing. 3. The community behind this initiative is the most supportive group possible. They are always there for one's queries, and everyone has a strong passion for the community. Now, he thanks schoolhouse for letting him realize his skills as a tutor, guide new people on the right path in life, and let him help others become tutors and impact even more learners. He learned so much in all fields, such as the software development side of the site, the policies present, and the qualities of amazing tutors. What was initially a summer service project type relationship became a strong passon. This is my journey! Thank you so much schoolhouse for everything you have done. I have a strong bond with it now, and will continue more in whatever way I can, whether it is helping them with whatever questions they have, or teaching them new topics for their GED (or exams!). :)

Building up Confidence

Aug 25, 2021

Schoolhouse.world helped me a lot in building up confidence. I used to be kind of an introverted person who was always afraid of interacting with anyone and as I grew up I started realizing that this was giving me no benefit. One day I was just scrolling through my Emails and I found one from 'AoPS' regarding AMA by Sal and Richard on 'Schoolhouse.world' and that is how I was introduced to this masterpiece. So, I started exploring it and came to know that I can also become a tutor and spread my knowledge with others too. I always wanted a platform where I can tutor as Feynman and Sal believe in spreading knowledge not only for teaching but to gain mastery in that topic. But I was really nervous as I did not have that much confidence, but somehow I pushed myself for submitting the certification video and further. At last, I was introduced to this community and I was stunned for a bit by seeing how great it was! Everyone was so kind, friendly, and helping. There was always room for improving ourselves, and soon I gained confidence as a tutor and a volunteer! Thank you

How one application has helped me teach ages I never thought I would be able to

Aug 25, 2021

With classes became online in spring 2020 I was trying to figure out ways I can still learn and find motivation for things to do over the summer. As I figured a lot of my in person teaching experiences would be cancelled. As someone who wants to be a teacher I was disheartened at the news however a few months later I came across Sal's video where he explained what schoolhouse.world's vision. I was suddenly intrigued as someone who had been using Khan Academy for the past decade I thought to myself wouldn't it be so cool to work alongside him and other tutors I tried to let my personality shine in the short application and turned it in. I waited to hear back but at the same time I was trying to remember it's not the end of the world if I don't get in. Flash forward not even a month later in August I received a welcoming email as I was getting ready for one of my relative's birthday dinner I read congratulations you have been accepted and I swear my heart stopped for a second. I was like I'll just read it in the car rereading the email in the car I started getting emotional and crying my extended family looked at me confused. I managed to say I'm going to be a tutor with Sal Khan the founder of Khan Academy and my parents were just as shocked as I was not knowing I had even applied. It was then I suddenly joined the slack community and knew I was welcomed. Trying to figure out where I'll fit in I decided to observe a handful of sessions and see what worked best. As someone who's keen on creating relationships with others. I even asked Mariah like what if I don't finish all my content in one session can I have a follow up session and she replied with I could and that's when the wheels started turning. I was determined to create lesson plans something that would inspire my students to follow me as a tutor and have a good time. I was still nervous my first few sessions but that slowly started to disappear as sessions went on. I slowly worked up the confidence and was shocked at much I could achieve. Now days, I've worked with learner's who are in second and third grade all the way to someone who's getting their high school diploma. People talk about the fact they have ten to twenty students in their sessions and I'm here satisfied with just having one or two maybe five at maximum. All in all of these have brought a smile on my face and it wouldn't have happened had I decided not to fill out the application.

Journey of learning, never ends!

Aug 25, 2021

Hey there! I'm so excited to share my words on how have I been spending my time with schoolhouse. It's been more than 6 months now, I'm part of an incredible community, schoolhouse.world! For a month I was just a learner, but now I tutor along with my learning as well. I'm Simran, a high school senior from India, aspiring to study in US colleges. For complete one month, I received the best guidance for SAT, then college advice, and still continuing help from experienced peers! I was so eager to engage with the community more and got myself enrolled as a tutor. After joining in, I was stunned to see the plethora of opportunities everyday! And most importantly such quick and alltime help from the best volunteers. You, as a tutor, not only get an exposure to international teaching or handling zoom, but also working around with Google documents, Coda, and a lot more... Dealing with learners from different diversity, region, culture is just amazing. Working with peers, to know more, host collaborative sessions/series, idea jams, healthy dicussions and this list goes limitless! You get a chance to improve your leadership skills, team management, nettiquettes, communication skills, foster new ideas, full support to your new ideas and what not. The volunteers here are so helpful and kind throughout. I'm so fortunate to be a part of this exponentially growing community! I hope you too enjoy all the pleasures that I do. Thank you :)

Tutoring is more than just teaching !!

Oct 14, 2024

Tutoring is more than just teaching—it’s about empowering others and building confidence. Schoolhouse has provided an amazing platform to learn and grow, not just for students but for me as a tutor. When I see a student’s "aha" moment, I know I’m making a difference. Each student brings unique challenges, which pushes me to adapt, learn, and grow. At Schoolhouse, the diversity of students from different cultures and backgrounds enriches every session. Tutoring also allows me to live my belief of giving back to society through education. It’s not just about academic success; it’s about inspiring others to reach their full potential, while I continue to evolve as both a teacher and a learner.

When I joined the Schoolhouse community in March 2024, I was thrilled to discover that all the tutors on this platform were just like me: they were all students! To be honest, I never thought that I would get to the point where I would be tutoring others in various subjects. Being a tutor has taught me self-confidence and has helped me to explain my ideas in a coherent manner. I hope that others on this platform can discover the immense joy of the gift that keeps on giving: education. Thank you Schoolhouse for providing me with the ability to impact the lives of others through the indubitable power of learning :)

Why I Joined Schoolhouse

Aug 20, 2024

To be completely honest, I first joined Schoolhouse only to get volunteer hours and buff up my college application. However, I found that teaching what I was passionate about - history - was something genuinely enjoyable and productive for me to do, and I was also able to find helpful resources here on areas I was weaker at (STEM) that allowed me to improve as a learner. I think that Schoolhouse is super clever and well-managed, and I'm super grateful that I was able to find this platform and be a part of both the tutor and student community.

The Learner behind the Tutor

Aug 1, 2024

I joined Schoolhouse in June as a tutor. I took the dSAT twice and scored good on the math section but I wasn't as satisfied with my reading score. On Schoolhouse, I've helped students get better at various math domains and have given them the strategies that I used to get a good score on Math. But on the other hand, through the excellent R&W tutors, I've started feeling more confident in my R&W skills. To sum it up, in the span of a month, I've tutored and been tutored and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The Wonders of Teaching

Jun 15, 2024

Teaching something is the true way of mastering it. I had taken a few SATs before June 1, with my highest score being a 1490. I then decided to host an SAT Reading and Writing Bootcamp to help others improve their scores, and to master some of the concepts myself. This must have worked, because the next time I took the SAT, I scored a 1540. I attribute this completely to the lessons I learnt tutoring here on Schoolhouse. It is a truly magical experience!

Learn With Confidence

May 16, 2024

Are you afraid of making mistakes while learning? It's okay on Schoolhouse! As some people say and I quote, "You can't learn without mistakes." This is my version of the quote. Once you make a mistake, your brain tries to remember how that happened and then it does its best to avoid doing it again. And doing that on Schoolhouse is awesome! I am a tutor and a learner here on Schoolhouse, and I have fun every time I'm learning or tutoring because we always make mistakes and we learn from them. Gaining Wisdom / Knowledge

Mar 18, 2024

High school has been tough for me, especially now that I'm in 11th grade and have so many state and school exams. Before I found out about Schoolhouse, I struggled with understanding most of what I was learning at school. I always asked myself, "Do I really need to take a math or science class? What will I use it for in the future? Why is it so important to study things that won't help me in my future?" It turns out that I do need to use math and science in the future. Time is math. Understanding how humans behave is a type of science. I found out about Schoolhouse through Khan Academy. Ever since then, I have come to realize that with all the knowledge I could gain inside and outside of school, I could share it with others who crave and want knowledge. I enjoy using Schoolhouse because it not only helps me, but it also allows me to help others. With all out knowledge combined, we will make a great team! -Thank you!

School House Experience

Mar 9, 2024

I was really nervous about the SAT and my sister was looking for online help and found schoolhouse. the surprising part was that it was free. The tutors were very respectful and very kind. I loved how we discussed our answers and got to hear everyone thoughts on how they solved the answer. I think there should be more students than 10, so we have more ideas and many different explanations from different students.

The Enlightened Journey: A Tale of Passion for Learning and Teaching

Feb 29, 2024

In late November of 2023, while procrastinating and surfing the web, I stumbled upon Schoolhouse World. My aim was to find a website that would provide a free tutoring service to help me improve my knowledge of biology and math. And that's where my journey began. Ever since my dad introduced me to the concept of a streak in third grade, I've been using Khan Academy every day. I fell in love with the platform and was pleased to discover that its founder, Sal Khan, had created a new platform called Schoolhouse World. As I set up my account and started interacting with the platform, I felt something special inside me. I decided to join subworlds and interact with tutors and other users on the platform. It was then that I met some of the smartest and kindest people I've ever encountered. I was amazed at the quality of the tutors, who were among the best I've ever met. As I started making friends on Schoolhouse World, I became more involved in the platform. I began hosting my own speech and debate sessions and even attended my first Model UN, where I placed second in my committee. During this time, I made connections with people who challenged me to be the best version of myself. My current math tutor is one of them. I started with a negative outlook on geometry, thinking it would never be for me. However, my tutor made it fun and engaging, and I now attend every Saturday for a math session. If you're looking to learn more about a specific topic or concept, improve your grades, or even meet new friends who push you to be the best version of yourself, I highly recommend joining Schoolhouse World.

Don’t give up on what you love

Jan 31, 2024

I first joined Schoolhouse in May of 2021. When I first heard SHW, it was when I found out on social media. When I went in depth with scrolling in social media, it was during the pandemic. One day I was scrolling and I bumped into this one ad that is free live Zoom tutoring. My mind went blank and I was so shocked saying “There is free live Zoom tutoring. Really? There is no way tutoring is free online.” I didn’t believe that was ever existed and I thought it was a scam at any point. Eventually, I decided to search the website itself and unfortunately, I didn’t get what I wanted. What I mean by that is that I know the first few letters, but not all the letters surprisingly. However, unfortunately, I didn’t see the ad again and I was so devastated. What I mean by devastated, I mean that I went through the process of depression. However, after a few days, I meant to find the ad again. Finding the ad again, I was so happy and I jumped up and down over and over again. After I found the ad, I eventually searched and got the website itself. The first thing that I did on the schoolhouse website was sign up and register for a session. I didn’t know how to register for a session due to me on a new platform and overthinking decisions. Eventually, I learned how to register a session by clicking the register button and join the session. My first schoolhouse session was probably the most intimidating ever because I thought that the tutor would not like me at all and I thought that I wouldn’t be able to follow up on what we had learned that day. Turns out, the first session tends to be the best session ever because the tutor was so nice and so helpful in any way possible. The tutor was so patient and helped me whenever I got an answer wrong. After the session, I found out about the rating which is so cool and so interactive at the same time. I was a learner for 5 months during the process without ever thinking of becoming a tutor in the first place. My first impression of that is that “Oh no! I probably do not qualify enough to become a tutor due to my focus on school and maybe it wouldn’t be right for me to fully commit to tutoring whatsoever. However, one tutor has inspired me to become a tutor because a tutor gets freedom in some way and you could host anything that you want to choose. I was so indecisive about whether or not I would want to become a tutor, but at the end of the day, you just have to go for it and believe that you could do it. Then, I decided to fill out a tutor application. During the tutor application process, I was so nervous, but also confident at the same time. However, after the tutor application, I decided to think that maybe I wouldn’t get in due to experience in stuff. When I finished my shower, I got an email saying my tutor application was approved and I was so excited for the whole night. After joining Slack, I met my onboarding buddy name Lakshana M. Lakshana M. is probably one of the onboarding buddies that I will forever be grateful for. She helped me on my first session and she gave me valuable tips on what to know for future sessions. Even though she isn’t here anymore, I appreciate it as an onboarding buddy and as a friend. Always wish her the best always and forever. Lastly, my journey in SHW has been fun and bittersweet. Thank you Schoolhouse for always being there for me whenever I need it. Even though there was a struggle to find the website in the first place, I am happy that it became the person I am today and also have everlasting friendships at the same time. Without you guys, I would have never known that free live Zoom tutoring existed and I wouldn’t have met people around the world. The moral lesson of this story is don’t give up what you’re looking for because eventually you will get there and you will feel accomplished after finding the thing you’re looking for. Schoolhouse helped me through that every step of the way and I’m grateful to have been part of this journey in the first place. Can’t wait what the future holds at SHW.

Love of Teaching

Nov 23, 2023

I have always had a love of learning. Ever since my mother taught me to read (at the age of 2 or 3!), I have sought out knowledge and skill. As a homeschool parent, my mom has continued to let me study what I want when I want, no matter how eclectic or high-level the subject. And as she shared this learning with me, I began to share it with others. When I was younger, I used to make worksheets for my friends and family to practice logarithms just because this concept made me excited and I wanted to share it. I began studying for the SAT probably as soon as I became a teenager and was thrilled by my practice test scores. Then I learned of the possibility of Dual Enrollment at the local Community College and it was time to take the test for real. It was my SAT score that caused me to receive an invitation to tutor on Schoolhouse. Unlike the brilliant Liya D, I was a tutor from the very beginning. I started with a math bootcamp. I was nervous and excited and felt that I was constantly doing something wrong. The very first contact my learners had with me was a series of my typos in the group chat. I kept forgetting pieces of the agenda. But I got good feedback and enjoyed myself and was ready to keep pushing forward. I am now on my 6th bootcamp, have given multiple Live Helps, and have even taught my own SAT prep classes. And despite a few bad ratings and some occasional stressful moments, I have loved it all the way. When I explain something in a way that really resonates with a learner, I feel so heartened by that excitement on their face. I love the feeling that I am in control of my knowledge, in control of the situation, and ready to help others no matter what. Between my work on Schoolhouse and my part-time job as a karate teacher, the opportunities of the past year have taught me how much I enjoy teaching. I am an aspiring doctor, and when I think of my dream job, I often imagine myself at a med school or teaching hospital guiding others. Without Schoolhouse, I might never have fully understood this passion of mine. Homeschooling has been overwhelmingly positive for me, but it can make me feel a little isolated. A small social circle is really good for me in that I tend to form deep connections with my close friends, but a few more acquaintances certainly wouldn't hurt. And Schoolhouse has provided me with the opportunity I need to meet new learners and tutors in a friendly environment. I am first-and-foremost a tutor on Schoolhouse and love learning about my learners, but I have also attended many of the amazing community events here such as the MUN and World Fair. These events have given me some of my happiest recent memories and valuable new friendships. I can't wait to keep teaching, learning, and meeting new people on Schoolhouse and beyond!

Friendship

Oct 19, 2023

I have been a homeschooler from birth, I have no idea what an actual school looks like. I am very thankful that my parents made this decision but different feelings began to stir after I turned fifteen; I need study partners. Things became hard for me after May 2023, when my best and only friends left our city and went to the Netherlands for their summer vacation, I was so lonely for a while that I thought I had depression. Finally, my family took a summer vacation too, and I momentarily forgot about the loneliness. After returning home, the feeling returned; I became restless and needed something to do. I suddenly remembered that I had a schoolhouse account, so I took a look and fell in love with it. It is the most fantastic thing that ever happened to me! From all my experiences at SHW, I treasured friendship the most. I came just in time for the World Fair, and by that, I met great people! I enjoyed so much learning about other's backgrounds and sharing mine. I know maybe until I go to college I will not be lonely. Thank you Schoolhouse!

My Experience with SHW SAT Prep!

Aug 25, 2023

I really appreciated how the tutors explained everything in detail and were patient with me when I did not understand something. They tried their best to make the class fun and interactive as possible and it was sucessful. The tips they gave were amazing as well and I think even paid classes could not give me the tips they gave me. I have tried paid classes but I felt that this was better in a way because I was learning from people who had experience with the SAT. All in all I highly reccomend this series.

SAT Tutoring is the Way to Go!

Jun 18, 2023

I got a 1480 on my first try on the SAT, and I am very sure it was due in part largely to the efforts of countless amazing tutors. I was able to find just the right SAT prep sessions/series that helped me out a lot. I also had an incredible tutor who did a SAT Bootcamp with me even when I was the only one attending, and that inspired me to keep trying. Thank you Schoolhouse tutors!!!! I 100% recommend anyone studying for the SAT to make it a point to attend these tutoring sessions. It totally pays off!

I recently hosted a reading and writing SAT Bootcamp! I was initially worried because the only time I could host it was at 1 pm and I didn't know if learners would be able to join with their school schedules. I was pleasantly surprised to see my Bootcamp fill up! As a group, we figured out that we had learners living in four different countries and that everyone was living in a different time zone. We were able to form irreplaceable connections and learn much more about the world!

The SchoolHouse Odyssey

May 26, 2023

From School to House, and from House to School. This is the routine for most students across the world. They begin the day at home, go to school, and come back. The nature of reality is that the spheres of learning and comfort are divided, with school being the primary place where learning occurs. However, this platform changes that reality - for good. SchoolHouse is a community that's based on the principle that these two spheres don't have to be separate, and learning can happen from anywhere at anytime. I strongly identified with this mission because I believe education is a right and not a privilege. So, as I began tutoring, not only did I feel a sense of empowerment helping learners from multiple countries, but I also improved in the way I communicate with others, which previously was a big struggle for me as an individual. Throughout history, much has changed. Technology, ideas, and theories have all undergone change. However, education and specifically the model of the classroom has not changed in centuries. With SchoolHouse, I'm excited to see how education will advance moving forward. Not just as a tutor, but also as a learner.

Growing my love for math

Apr 11, 2023

Schoolhouse has given me the ability to connect with so many people I would have otherwise never encountered, it has provided me with an amazing community to meet new people and share my love for math. Schoolhouse has given me a platform to help people learn new concepts and feel more confident in their mathematical abilities; it is always so rewarding when I hear that a session has helped someone prepare for a test or learn a new skill. I have also been able to grow more confident in my own math abilities because of Schoolhouse and teaching others has only made me more passionate about math.

As someone who has always had a passion for mathematics, I have struggled to find the resources and support that I needed to truly excel in this field. However, since discovering Schoolhouse.world, my experience has been nothing short of transformative. From the moment I first logged onto the platform, I was struck by the warmth and expertise of the volunteers who make it all possible. Whether I was struggling with a particularly difficult problem set or simply looking for guidance on how to approach a new concept, I always felt that I had a supportive community behind me that was genuinely invested in my success. What truly sets Schoolhouse.world apart, though, is the way that it has enabled me to express my passion for mathematics in new and exciting ways. Through the platform's virtual classrooms and one-on-one tutoring sessions, I have been able to connect with experts from around the world who share my love for this subject. Together, we have explored challenging topics, grappled with complex equations, and pushed each other to reach new heights of understanding and achievement. Perhaps most importantly, though, Schoolhouse.world has given me a sense of purpose and belonging that I have never before experienced. Through my interactions with other students and volunteers on the platform, I have come to realize that mathematics is not just a subject that I am interested in, but a community that I am a part of. This realization has been a powerful source of motivation and inspiration for me, driving me to continue pursuing my passions and pushing myself to new heights of achievement. In short, I cannot overstate the impact that Schoolhouse.world has had on my life. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of the volunteers who make this platform possible, as well as the broader Schoolhouse.world community for their unwavering support and encouragement. I am truly honored to be a part of this incredible community, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow alongside all of you. With deepest gratitude, Vedh K

The most beautiful learning project there is, available to all!

Mar 17, 2023

I learned about Schoolhouse while looking online to volunteer as a tutor. I never expected such a beautiful, easy, well-organised, professional, high-standard project existed. Even though I've been teaching math in schools for 30 years there is still so much to learn when you teach at Schoolhouse. It is a world of continuous learning, learning from the students who many are themselves tutors, learning from the always available support, learning from self-reflection, learning from other roles one can choose to take. So we are all the same, making a difference while learning and giving back, and all this available to all! Incredible!!!

Learning While Teaching

Feb 20, 2023

It is truly an honor to be able to teach other students and learn yourself. I feel that this is one of the best ways if not the best way to give back to the community and other students. Schoolhouse should be more widely known because of the great opportunities it gives everyone!

iowan girl talks a lot, answers questions, builds confidence

Feb 14, 2023

I was afraid to start tutoring. I was worried I didn't know enough, I was terrified that I'd encounter a question I didn't have an answer to, and overall, I questioned my tutoring skills. But tutoring through Schoolhouse.world made me realized that tutoring was a learning process for both the tutor and the learner. I learned that I had knowledge and the ability to share it with others, and that self-confidence has supported me in so many aspects of my life, from public speaking to Bharatanatyam (Indian classical dance). Schoolhouse.world has helped me realize my own potential as well as the potential of others around me.

A Life-Changing Community 🌟

Jan 10, 2023

I've always wanted to feel belonged in a loving community for my whole life. But when one of my friends recommended me to join Schoolhouse.world, I feel like my life drastically changed from that moment. At first, when my friend told me that I could actually meet Sal Khan online in this community, I signed up right away and completed my training to become a tutor. My goal was clear: I wanted to meet Sal Khan someday on this platform by raising my reputation on this site by volunteering and contributing to this community. I planned my first session, pondering about the thoughts of me meeting Sal Khan someday, and slowly carried out my plan. However, when I created more and more sessions and series, I gradually realized how I cherished this community and how this community was so valuable in my life. The people here have been so kind and benevolent to me. Some tutors even used their precious time to help me with my sessions! I realized that this community was full of compliments and altruism. I really appreciate the kindness this community has given to me. Now, I feel like I have the duty to give back now. I want this circle of kindness to keep going. If you are a learner, I recommend you guys to keep going and contribute as a tutor and maybe take it even more by being a part of a volunteer group in SHW. 😀😀

The Place of Opportunity

Dec 30, 2022

I came to schoolhouse.world seeking ways to help other people because in my area, these things don't come until you're a junior/senior in high school (I was only helping my sister and friends at this point) This platform gave me this opportunity early, helping me explore my passion for teaching others. And the best part is that it's free! It's a win-win for me, both as tutor and as learner.

Schoolhouse - The place of the future.

Dec 21, 2022

I was looking for math classes but found it too expensive for $30 a class. So I was looking around on Khan Academy and found this link for this place called Schoolhouse™ and I instantly loved it. It had all the classes that I needed and homework help. I learned many things that I needed like my homework which I didn't get at school. This place of the future made by Salman Khan is how schools should be in the future: free and non-profit. I continue to use this everyday and it is extremely high quality. Thank you for listening to my story! Nathan

Math struggles

Nov 30, 2022

I always "lost" the most amount of my PSAT points on the math portion, and with my first SAT coming up, I was understandably worried. However, after attending about four weeks of math SAT prep here on schoolhouse, I can honestly say I'm so much more confident and prepared than I would have been otherwise! I'm so grateful for my amazing tutor who had fantastic explanations for every math problem we struggled with, and with this, I was also able to figure out what topics I needed to practice on my own too!!

My Regret? Not Joining Sooner

Nov 20, 2022

When I was invited to be a tutor on Schoolhouse for an SAT Bootcamp, I was beyond excited. I had always loved teaching, and this opportunity seemed amazing, yet, I had never taught any high schoolers before as my only professional volunteering experience was with middle schoolers. Even though I always help out fellow students at school, I was afraid. However, when I got over my imposter syndrome, I fell in love with the platform. I wish I had known of Schoolhouse when I was taking the SAT, it would've helped my progress tremendously and I could've started my tutoring journey sooner!

Opportunities

Nov 14, 2022

I came into this experience totally unaware of the program and what its mission was. All I had was a short email detailing an opportunity to tutor a bootcamp for SATs. Yet in less than a month, I was all in, invested into creating a space for others to learn and grow in. Schoolhouse is really a great platform, not only for students to come and find lessons helpful to them, but for students to become a mentor to others, to help others in areas they are strong in and learn more about areas they’re weak in. I encourage everyone interested to join, as you’re entering a community of global learners dedicated to growing and helping each other. I personally have had a chance to deep dive into subjects I’m passionate about and create content to help others find what I find fascinating about these topics.

A Place Where You Belong

Nov 7, 2022

Growing up, I had and still have a great passion for mathematics and sciences. However, being a middle school student, there really wasn't many opportunities for me to thrive in what I wanted to thrive in. Prior to my 13th birthday, I was attempting to go on khan academy, when I came across this site known to you all as Schoolhouse. I found out about the opportunities they had, and on my 13th birthday, I immediately registered to be a tutor. Being a tutor has had a huge impact on me as a person. It has boosted my confidence, public speaking skills, and understanding of a given topic. This is when I realized that Schoolhouse was a place where I belonged. Even today, I enjoy helping all learners, and I hope to continue to have a positive effect on the schoolhouse environment as time goes forward.

The One World Schoolhouse

Oct 14, 2022

I was a student who was scouring the internet for learning resources all over the internet. Suddenly, I came across a video by Gohar Khan on schoolhouse.world. Even though my initial intention was to join as a learner I quickly found myself tutoring other students on schoolhouse.world. This was really a wonderful experience. Teaching others has really helped me brush up on so many skills including the one I am teaching. The tutor community is just the cherry on top!

The Start of a Love Story

Sep 18, 2022

When I first started schoolhouse as a learner, I was just looking for much needed help on my SAT as an international student. Meeting the schoolhouse community was like finding a new family with so many diverse personalities meeting at one point with one love for learning and sharing that knowledge. I've been able to learn and grow so much, learning about countries and cultures, creating strong bonds with each other together with the academic growth we had both sharing our knowledge and learning from each other. It helped me realize my passion to teach others, and gave me a platform to be of help to people around the globe. It helped me move my love for learning to a marriage with teaching. Thank you Schoolhouse!

Tutoring, Learning, Sharing and Growing :)

Aug 24, 2022

I noticed my parents spent a lot of money on tuitions to help me and my siblings to get ahead and learn more (especially in math!). I learned about schoolhouse.world on Youtube. I thought, wow, I can use this for volunteer hours and I can learn things for myself! Well, it's much more that that! I learned that tutoring people from around the world is so much fun, especially when you notice that student say "ohh" and you know you made something click in their mind! I love that! I learned more than just math, but I was able to learn computer science, health, and some art with the summer camp! I love how this is a great community with the main goal is to share education with everyone in the world :)

The Love of Learning

Aug 1, 2022

My journey began actually disliking this website. I joined Tatiana's Chemistry session and actually my friend was messing around and asking really silly questions like "What is lithium?". I believed it was silly, but I don't know why, I felt she was allowed to ask it, as SHE WAS a learner. Then, somehow, I got disconnected from the session because of internet. And for some reason I decided never to use schoolhouse again. Next, I was preparing for the UKMT challenge, and I didn't understand the working out for a question. I was searching for the explanations. DIDN'T FIND IT! Then, I thought, ok, my last option is schoolhouse. I joined the Indian doubt clearing session. The first tutor couldn't solve my problem, so I nearly lost hope in schoolhouse again. That's when Arya D turned up. He explained the problem in a jiffy! And I regained confidence in maths and schoolhouse. Next, I joined Biology by Pranav K. He taught everything excellently! I was absolutely happy! I only joined it because I need help with my GCSEs (still a long time to go - three - four years?) but I am exceeding the learning ability for KS3 so I needed some challenge. And guess what? I learnt AP concepts! Afterwards, Shivansh G taught me Spanish! He was also excellent. And so interactive! That's when I gained the passion to be a tutor. Currently, I am teaching Geography, Pre-Algebra and Writing. I'll tell you why I taught these three. I was just randomly looking through schoolhouse and I saw certifications... so of course I did some pre-algebra topics, and I taught them! I saw three session requests for geography and I realised I am good at geography... so why not teach? Then, I started joining Pranav K's writing sessions! My mum just came to ask me about something and she saw how fun these sessions were! So she asked me to tutor in it... and so I am! Thank you schoolhouse, Sal Khan and all the tutors and team at schoolhouse.

An Excellent Learning Experience

Jul 27, 2022

When I tutor at Schoolhouse, I am learning a lot as well. I've learned along the way how to effectively communicate to a group of people and how to develop a higher level of thinking. It feels great knowing that I've made an impact by helping learners look at all kinds of problems from different perspectives. Plus, I get the volunteer hours I need when applying to colleges.

MY START UP!

Jul 17, 2022

I actually never thought I would ever be able to tutor people from different parts of the world but here I am. schoolhouse has taught me things I never thought I would ever be able to do such as TUTORING. My sister was the one only person I ever taught something but schoolhouse taught me how to tutor kids from other parts of the world as well. This helped me gain experience and confidence as well. And all this took place when I joined schoolhouse on April 20th 2022. I was exposed to people from south, north etc. and this really helps a person to do something they've never done and schoolhouse is where I 'started' my tutoring journey!

SHW is beyond volunteering hours

Jul 4, 2022

I came to Schoolhouse.world through a Tiktok #ifykyk with the hope that I get some volunteer hours to fill up a requirement that I needed in order to run for office at my local Key Club. Well, I lost the election but I stayed with Schoolhouse, why? Because it just simply amazed me when I got more involved, a lot of people are so dedicated that they give up their lunch break to tutor, or how people still try to work while on vacation at their hotel. I was just amazed at the teams working nonstop to either help the tutor succeed or help the learner felt more at home. As a tutor, I felt very welcomed on the tutoring platform on Slack, how the channels just kept popping up even in the middle of the night or how answering one question and get you involved in this whole story of turns and complications. Okay, so Hai, after got really involved what did you get? Um, I got the phobia for Typeforms #training, random stuff I picked up about privacy that is still stuck in my head #MARS or skills that I found interested in learning and still invest time in #beekeeping. But after all the hard work I think SHW is still worth a try...

Much Better Free Help than Paid Tuitions

Jun 30, 2022

Schoolhouse has helped me so much these past months and I had my competitive math tutions which I paid for last year but this year's math lessons were much more satisfying than the paid ones I had last year. Best of all is that I could meet people from different countries and interact with different people without any trouble. I used to have social anxiety before and it grew much worse over the pandemic but now, because of schoolhouse, I have no fear of interacting with others.

Helping students all around the world

May 23, 2022

To celebrate my one-year at schoolhouse, I would like to share my story! I started tutoring on schoolhouse in May 2021, after seeing a video from Sal Khan about online free tutoring. I have always used Khan Academy, but as a recent 8th-grade graduate, I was scared to start tutoring. In my first session I was shaking with nerves, but it went great, and I continued hosting sessions and series. During that time, I tutored students from over 20 countries, which I never thought I could achieve. I feel that I have truly found a community that I am proud to be a part of. Recently, I have joined teams to become an even bigger part of schoolhouse!

Butterfly Effect of Tutoring

May 7, 2022

Although I've just been tutoring for 2 weeks, the experience has been immensely rewarding. I can't even put it into words. I see tutoring as one of my ways to be grateful for the knowledge that I've gained over the years. After joining SHW, I got to know the struggling of teachers out there that sometimes myself as a learner take for granted. Not only does tutoring help for improving your understanding in your subjects, but also in your confidence. I also realised few days ago, that the hours that I've put voluntarily could even make a butterfly effect on others' success. Even just a subtopics, who knows that that may come up in an important exam which could give them admission into university/college of their dream which may provide them opportunity for future's success. I always believe whenever I'm tutoring that I always make quite a big positive impacts toward their future and that's why I enjoy every seconds of tutoring in SHW.

Spinning round the sun Again but not Alone!

Apr 18, 2022

Just as the junior year of my high school ended,I was feeling completely empty and stressed out for going into the senior and last academic year of school(alone). I never knew, joining Schoolhouse will be such interesting and interactive untill I decided to join. As being a person dealing with anxiety and introvertness, Schoolhouse is really helping me to get out of these things and share my ideas and thoughts with peers that I've never met but it always gives a certain relief. I am looking forward to continue this journey with great tutors and peers and maybe spinning round the sun with them this time !

Teaching Experience

Feb 23, 2022

I was previously a learner at Schoolhouse. With the help of schoolhouse, I understood all my math concepts and I became an expert at them. I would just do my homework in like 30 minutes and I would have free time. Then, I would think. And think some more. Once, a thought came to me; I had learnt so much from Schoolhouse and from the wonderful tutors here at Schoolhouse. Why not help out? They do say teaching is the best way to learn! I had finally made the decision to become a tutor. It wasn't going to be easy though. But I thought it was worth it. And it actually is. I reviewed topics that I knew I could teach so I was more familiar with them and I did some Khan Academy practice problems. I completed a certification. I got approved as a tutor. I took the tutor training. I became a tutor and it was time to host my first session! I was so excited and nervous. I could wait to help curious learners all around the world with the problems they had. But, I was also worried. What if I didn't know how to solve my learner's problem? What if I accidentally gave the answer away? I took a deep breath and hosted my first session!! I cannot tell you how happy I was. I was just, I guess satisfied. The happiness you get from helping someone is one of the best things you can do! After my first experience, I kept on hosting session; helping them with the problems that they had. I was happy that I got to help someone today. My learners were happy that they got their problems solved. Like they say, teaching is the best way to learn. Teaching has always been a passion for me. But where would I teach? I have seen the applications of many tutoring sites. There was one common question. What experience do you have? or Upload your resume with your experiences. You need experience to get a job, which requires experience. Schoolhouse has given me the opportunity to prove myself as a tutor and to help me pursue my passion of teaching.

Some Cliche Title

Feb 8, 2022

I named the title as such because being a schoolhouse tutor really, although an overused phrase, "opened my eyes." It made me understand how to actually teach someone a topic. It feels nice when you teach a learner something and that aha! moment finally clicks in their brain. It makes you, I don't know, "feel something churning in your heart." All of the cliche and overused lines come together, because I really don't know where I'd be today without schoolhouse.

Finding an outlet with schoolhouse

Jan 24, 2022

I come from a community were there's no SAT training center. When I wanted to write the SAT some months back I was completely lost and I didn't knew where to begin. One day through a friend of mine, I discovered schoolhouse and I started practicing with experienced tutors and I got to know exactly what the SAT was and after some months of tutoring, sat for the SAT and when the results were out, I got a 1420 at my first attempt, thanks to the tutors of schoolhouse. This score permitted me to be selected as the finalist of a full scholarship in America an I got invited for the interview. Thanks to schoolhouse and to my tutor Michelle she's so cool :) .They permitted me to find an outlet to the hardship I was experiencing.

My journey at Schoolhouse

Dec 21, 2021

I have been joining schoolhouse abt half a year now and when thinking about all the happiness and activities I've done when working at this platform, I can't wait to have a story to tell you all about all the experience I got at schoolhouse. Let's start off with why I joined schoolhouse. In May, two of my friends who are still tutors at schoolhouse were talking to each other about how to apply for a platform which people teach from around the world, then I immediately asked them about this interesting platform and how they recorded themselves and became a tutor. I decided to apply a few days later. I decided to record myself and submit it to schoolhouse. Recording such a video is very difficult for me since I have to sit in front of a laptop, explaining math problems out loud without getting embarrassed in front of people. But I managed to finish all 5 steps given by schoolhouse and became a tutor. First few days at schoolhouse, I don't know how to use slack and starts to explore the features at this platform and as well as on Slack, I found out that tutors at schoolhouse had many interests and hobbies that they created channels only just for people to share the same hobby. The sessions I have taught were really fun with learners participating in my sessions and games. The thing that I had even more fun is that when I have fun in community events as well as hosting series. Chatting with tutors and learners in schoolhouse is so fun! Especially when it comes to community updates session. All of us waiting for the updates is so fun, especially the UI change and series update when everyone cheered when the updating break is over or when Kate hosted the first series. There were so much more fun and interesting moments I got in schoolhouse that I cannot tell all in one go, I got a break to revise for my exams for about 2 months since October and I barely active since then. Now I'm having a bit more free time and ready to dive in and teaching in schoolhouse and having those fun once more.

Overcoming Social Anxiety at SHW

Dec 5, 2021

For years, I tried to pass as an "introvert", like everyone else at high school. I tried to ignore the fact that every time I was asked to speak to an audience, my voice shrunk, my palms started sweating, and my sentences stopped making sense. Every time, I wrote my social anxiety off as "stage fright". One day during the lockdown, I stumbled across a Khan Academy YouTube video, where Sal Khan talks about Schoolhouse. Excited by the opportunity to make a difference, I signed up as a tutor. On the day of my first session, I was scared out of my wits as I waited for learners to join. How would I, the high schooler who stuttered as soon as they saw a group of people, tutor a group of learners? In came the learners, and I found in those learners the most supportive, encouraging audience I had ever met. They were okay with me making mistakes, and were appreciative of me taking out my time. The virtual interaction meant that nobody could see my sweaty palms, and nobody would judge me for them. Slowly, I grew. Other tutors reached out to me on Slack, forming friendships and giving me support. In just three months, I am amazed at the difference Schoolhouse has made in me. Tutoring at Schoolhouse is an experience I will never forget.

Learning Never Goes Out Of Style

Nov 3, 2021

My name is sarah and i'm going to write a personal story about my journey through school and how i strive to go deeper into learning I was bullied a lot in school and eventually i switched to online schooling where i could go at my own pace. I continued this for over 4 years and i'm now in the 10th grade and still homeschooled! Schoolhouse is a good place for me to go and connect with others on topics i enjoy and things i need a little extra practice in. I have enjoyed this because i am able to learn at my own speed and not have to slow down or speed up for anyone. I've come to realize over time that learning isn't uncool or nerdy. It's amazing! I always thought that if you learned to much that you were a nerd or an outcast but my mom has always encouraged me to learn as much as i can so i don't fall for scams and false promises that will pop up during my lifetime. My mom always tells me "Knowledge is something no one can ever take from you" and i hold those words dear to my heart, not just because it's true but because those words inspired me to go above and beyond my learning abilities and to never stop because learning never goes out of style :)

I can't believe this finally exists!

Oct 30, 2021

In a world where nothing seems to be free (mostly for obvious reasons), I was shocked to find Schoolhouse.world as a free tutoring site... I couldn't believe myself as last year I searched for a free tutoring site to help me with my schoolwork and I couldn't. All of them were way too expensive for me... but now I found this. This little hidden treasure that more people are finding nowadays. I wasn't surprised that it's by Salman Khan as well, dude he's my hero. I used and loved Khan Academy for a long time and now he made this, an even greater thing, I was amazed! At school, we all had to write about a famous/successful person we admire and it may not surprise you that I wrote about him. Making education free and accessible to everyone is the best thing ever and I'm glad he exists and that I know about it. I gotta say SHW may be the best thing that ever happened these past years, especially with the current pandemic. I'm lucky to be a part of it and I hope more people will find it too and join this precious learning community!

Great Experience

Sep 23, 2021

A newsletter from the Idaho State Superintendent's office stated Idaho was granted access to Schoolhouse tutoring for free. Even though I know Schoolhouse was intended for students, I signed up hoping that it would assist me, a veteran science teacher working on my math endorsement, with difficult problems while studying for Praxis 5161. It has been a great experience. Although responses are not instantaneous, they are very helpful. I am very grateful for this resource. I will be a huge advocate in letting students and teachers know of my experience. Having a tutor rather than just watching a video is a better experience. I am able to ask questions in real time while being shown how to work a problem on a shared screen. This is vital for studying upper level math concepts such as trigonometry because often these concepts are not intuitive. Thank you for working for us to have this resource available at no cost.

From a random khan academy YouTube viewer to a tutor at schoolhouse

Aug 25, 2021

I was just randomly scrolling khan academy India page where I saw a video about schoolhouse. I liked its concept and wanted to give it a try, I signed up and attended 2 or 3 sessions in capacity of a learner and got to know that you need not be a much experienced teacher in order to tutor at schoolhouse. So in a month or so, after completing my ongoing project of breakthrough junior challenge video, I applied for tutor. Apart from me myself learning something by teaching, one thing which keeps me here is the fact that even if there is 1 learner in the session and I could help him/her learn something, the pleasure it gives is divine.

Finding an Outlet with Schoolhouse

Aug 25, 2021

When my teacher posted on our google classroom about schoolhouse, I initially passed over it. Then, after my teacher brought it up again, I checked out the website. Right away, I was intrigued by the concept of a platform for people to learn for free—from peer tutors. After exploring the page, I got an account and was waiting for something to redirect me to a free trial or a purchase page. As a result, it surprised me that there wasn't a catch, and a legitimate, reliable website was providing tutors for free. I immediately started the certification process and now, after months of tutoring, I am so glad I stumbled on this website. It truly gives me an opportunity to learn how my peers think, to see people grow in their learning process, and to find a way for me to help people. Through Schoolhouse, I realized how much I enjoy teaching people and the satisfaction at the end of a session, when you realize that though it may be a little thing, you showed them something new. Whether it be a new way to think, a solution to a problem they were stuck on, or just correcting something, it's something new. The entire process is humbling: even as a tutor, you find out there is so much you don't know. I feel like I found my space at Schoolhouse, a unique way to use the knowledge I've gained over my years of study. The community makes everything 100% better: the number of times I've deferred to my fellow tutors is countless. Through constructive feedback, compliments, and just fun conversations, you realize there's always room to grow. My students are also amazing: they bring a fresh perspective to a conversation, they're always so sweet, and overall, are just great people. As the summer comes to an end, when people ask me what I did this summer, I'm proud that I can say I gained more experience as a tutor at Schoolhouse.

Snow Days are the Best Days at Schoolhouse

Aug 25, 2021

Whenever the website is down due to a bug or outage, we call it a snow day. A couple of volunteers including Kareena S create wording about it. We come together and post this message, "SNOW DAY! We are facing technical issues and all classes over the next day are currently cancelled. Class signups are also on hold..." It is amazing to see bright minds coming together to ensure that information is being communicated smoothly. It shows the diversity and community that schoolhouse fosters.

Motivation to learn

Aug 25, 2021

I found schoolhouse at a time when my school was closed and I didn't know what to do to improve my learning and connecting with others, because everyone was in quarantine and I had a different perspective of the outside world:), I was very pumped to learn more and more and from OTHERS that I don't even know! And I really liked that very much (I still do). This kept me very busy instead of sitting around doing nothing all day. And when school started this week (aug 16) It was very funny to hear what others in my class had been up to which was basically sitting/ sleeping all day doing nothing. My teachers were very satisfied to hear that I was learning and working while everyone was doing nothing. even my classmates were shocked about the time I woke up every morning to attend session.

What Learners Have To Say About Sessions

Professional young man speaks very good as a teacher, as someone would with a great deal of experience. Vismay P. is very knowledgeable about programming. I would definitely recommend this tutor. Also he shared many recourses that will be very helpful to me in my continued learning. There were 2 people in the class and attention was given to each person fairly so that each person took from the class.

(Parent here) Excellent teaching -- the best tutoring we've seen so far. Very organized, useful time management tips, engaging process of letting kids try the questions on their own then calling on them to explain, and helpful review of key learnings at the end. Thank you!

I don’t know how but your way of explaining complex topics make so much sense to me. I tend to struggle with a lot of topics because I am definitely more of a hands on learner which was difficult in a virtual school setting since I tend to not ask a lot of questions even though I know I should. I really appreciate how attentive you are and if you continue doing topic like tonight’s, I will probably pass the exam because of you :’).

Kate was amazing! Before this tutor session, I was completely new to quadratic equations, but she explained at an amazing pace. She was very kind and reassuring. She made the content a lot less intimidating. It surprised me on how much I was able to learn in just 40 minutes, and I feel like I have a good idea of quadratic equations. It was a lot simpler than I thought.

I would love more of these types of sessions! They are super helpful and informative. They make me feel more confident as I am preparing to take the test.

I'm a foreign student and American math is sometimes hard for me. So my knowledge was at a really low level before the session and it was difficult for me to solve even easy problems. But Shraman did his best to explain everything to me and I know a little bit more. His explanations were really useful for me. Moreover, he even shared with me some resources to broaden my knowledge. Thanks to Shraman, now I know what to do next.

Emma is truly a great tutor! She helped me a lot with the problems. She is also not a native speaker, so it made everything easier for me, because she gets that it may be difficult for foreigners to understand math in a different language. Therefore, she did her best to explain me everything and I'm really grateful for that!

Excellent tutor! I would want Ben to be my Calculus teacher. He explained everything in detail, cleared most of my doubts, and not only helped me with my quiz questions, but helped with everyone's questions. For these reasons, he surely deserved my super helpful rating.

This made me excited to do math! It’s always fun to attend Shadman’s sessions since I always learn something new that I never would’ve known if I haven’t attended. It’s always fun to learn something today that I didn’t know yesterday. I’ve been introduced to a lot of new terms such as the inradius, incircle and the circumcircle. I loved how Shadman started from the very basics and worked his way up making everything easier to understand. It was pretty awesome how we were able to cover a lot in such a small time. I also enjoyed the problems that we covered since you wouldn’t need a calculator to solve. (Sorry I wasn’t able to reply in all of the questions since I was busy taking notes, I promise I was listening the whole time!)

stellar, phenomenal, spectacular, showstopping. 11/10 would recommend! Super kind and helpful, and was able to answer questions not just about the solution to an answer, but also the nitty-gritty of things and why they are the way they are! Also really patient and passionate about math and tutoring!! I came in not expecting much, but I left with a greater appreciation for math. He also promotes learners to take initiative, through practice problems! This was actually my first session ever, so thank you Aayush, you’re on fire and I definitely look up to you, keep doing what you do!!

I’m just sad School House didn’t have the option of Super Duper Helpful, so the best I could go with was just Super Helpful. This tutor was patient, and helped me out all the way to the end. I was probably in the Zoom for like 2 hours, but yet he still proceeded to help me. Even the it was such a hard concept for me to grasp, his amazing explanations understand the question very thoroughly. I am really REALLY thankful that I met him during Live Help. Not only did he impact my learning but he also motivated me to study more math to become as good as him one day. This was truly a great experience for me.

Ananyaa was super nice and chill. She gave some great tips I'll be sure to use from now on.

The tutor was amazing! She provided us with an engaging session wherein she cleared all our doubts. The slides and the annotations were exceptionally informative. I hope to attend many more sessions by this tutor.

I really liked the atmosphere that you cultivated for the session (and series). It's clearly individualized which increases engagement greatly.
Learner in Anvika A's session

The session was great and had a warm atmosphere. I've been studying for the SAt for a little over a year now and I learnt some key tips today (like the ways to notice emphasis with word choice and punctuation) that I have not seen anywhere before. The word "meticulous" is also going to stick with me for a very long time because of you haha. Thank you!!

I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the exceptional tutoring experience I have had with you at Schoolhouse. Your lessons have been truly amazing and I feel incredibly fortunate to have had you as my tutor. One of the things that stands out the most to me is your interactive approach to teaching. Your ability to engage the students and make the material both interesting and fun has made a huge impact on my understanding and enjoyment of the subject. Your enthusiasm and passion for teaching is contagious and has made me look forward to each and every lesson. In addition, your knowledge and expertise in the subject matter is truly impressive. I feel that you have gone above and beyond in helping me grasp the concepts and I am confident that I will be able to apply this newfound knowledge in my future studies and career. I can say without hesitation that you are one of the best, if not the best, tutors I have ever had. Your commitment to your students' success is truly inspiring and I cannot thank you enough for everything you have done for me. I wish you all the best and I hope our paths cross again in the future. If you see this, I would love to get a response from you as well! :)

Thank you so much for such an awesome session! You are such an awesome person and it was extremly helpful to have the algebra 1 crash course over the summer. I am going into high school in about a week, and I was stressing out that I wasn't able to get anything more than the algebra foundations certification, so my parents suggested your session. I am so glad to have been in your class. I feel ready to take on the next school year (at least in math.) My uncle used to teach me "advanced" math. I put quotation marks because, while it was at the time, it isn't anymore. He kinda quit about ago year and a half ago, and while I was able to get through integrated math 1 with no issues... (we don't have ap classes, so if we are in advanced math, we just go to the grade above's math class) I was not confident that I could get through IM2 with the same speed. (To clarify, IM is Alg1 and 2, but over 3 years.) Thank you so much for helping me gain back my (how do the cool kids say it? Flow? Swag?) You really should be a teacher; you have the patience for it and you always explain, not only what you are doing, but why you are doing it. Thank you.

I absolutely loved the tutoring session with Bianca. She’s the sweetest, friendliest, always has a smile on her face and is super patient! I felt very comfortable talking to her. She makes sure you understand the material and she takes her time to explain things to you until it clicks.

I don't think words can fully express how meaningful and amzaing Rasia and this series are. I genuinly looked forward to the sessions because I knew I was going to have a great time. I have made freindships with people in this series that I truely feel will last a long time. While it is saddening that this series is ending I feel that the connections I made here will continue despite that I think a quote by famous author Frank Herbert sums things up perfectly "There is no real ending. It's just the place where you stop the story." -Randy B
