About

I am a high school student from China who loves physics, philosophy, and literature while enjoying traditional Chinese instruments. I also like to read all kinds of books. I am also an experienced debater since 6th grade, and recently (2025) I've gotten some experiences with MUN. Last year I won High Commendation in the Junior Division of the John Locke Essay Competition, and this year I'm participating again with hopes for something bigger.

Most of the things I learn by teaching myself with textbooks or reading books (in the case of my instruments, I just do trial and error). So here at Schoolhouse, I'm looking for:

1) People to discuss philosophy and literature with, especially philosophy in depth! I'm not satisfied with Sophie's World, and I would like to talk about primary sources (books and papers by philosophers). I really hope to communicate and dialogue in depth with those who share interests in philosophy. Although I've only begun on my journey in philosophy, I feel confident saying that I'm slightly more experienced than most of my age, and I am happy to lead fresh beginners down the millennium-long road of philosophy! Currently (summer 2025), I'm reading a collection of primary sources named The Norton Introduction to Philosophy, and considering its length and the limited time I have, I'll probably still be reading it next summer in 2026. If any of you are also craving for discussion, or as beginners want to get to know the "mysterious" and "daunting" discipline of philosophy, pls add me!!

2) Peers who need help in physics. (My physics is currently at the level of AP Algebra-based Physics 1 and 2, but I face some problems in problem solving and maths). If anyone needs some help, I might hold tutoring sessions that, although targeting my classmates back in China (I'll try to lure them here), can also be of great help! On the other hand, if any of you is super good in it, I would love some advice! (although maybe no need for tutoring now)

3) Places where I can discuss and debate ALL KINDS OF MEANINGFUL STUFF, from affirmative action to AI ethics -- and perhaps even participate in organizing some debate rounds! If any of you are already holding debate rounds of whatever format, whether its British parliamentary or Mandarin debate or World Scholars' Cup (excluding Public Forum! I can't speak that fast), and you want to know debate fans of similar interests, or you want to have some extra people helping around with debate rounds or MUNs, pls add me!!

Reading, Analyzing, and Discussing Philosophical Literature -- iPhilosophy Reading & Writing Club

    2nd session

Reading, Analyzing, and Discussing Philosophical Texts This is the 🔥FIRST EVER READING SERIES WHERE WE BLEND READING & WRITING WITH PHILOSOPHY🔥 in Schoolhouse! Contains 🔥INTENSIVE READING BEFORE SESSIONS and INTENSIVE DISCUSSING IN SESSIONS! It will be a 🔥great way to boost your reading & writing skills🔥 from SAT to physics, and will also 🔥help quench your thirst for philosophic discussion🔥. Here you can: - improve your reading comprehension skills and your proficiency in using logic -- both of which are essential for the SAT -- through reading and discussing selected primary texts by notable philosophers of a diverse span across time and topic, using beginner-friendly anthologies (collections of primary texts) as a guide. - learn about how to write argumentative texts and how to argue effectively, again by learning from past philosophers. - learn to appreciate texts and literature - improve debate skills through the discussions, and gain a basic but high-coverage understanding of philosophy to aid you in producing powerful, thoughtful, and persuasive arguments! Sessions will start with short lectures by the tutor(s) on the basics of the primary text of the session. Here, we will discuss the readings and cover reading comprehension through Q&A and check-your-understanding comprehension questions. Then, the remaining portion of time will be devoted to guided/moderated, Socratic discussions on the primary text, where participants can present their ideas and arguments and interact with each other. Reading all of the selected text before the sessions is suggested for the best experience. We will also read excerpts from the text for discussion purposes.
