Upcoming Sessions

Topic TBD: Dialogue Event (in partnership with NSDA)

    Starts

Welcome to [Dialogues](https://schoolhouse.world/dialogues)! This event is in partnership with the [National Speech & Debate Association](https://schoolhouse.world/redirect?code=-GjOyxxBrXFS47WSt9AFI). We will be discussing one of the following Lincoln-Douglas topics: - Resolved: The use of economic sanctions by the United States is immoral. OR - Resolved: The United States military ought to abide by the principle of non-intervention. You can learn more about Lincoln-Douglas [here](https://schoolhouse.world/redirect?code=fEmX0AG_si_iasAeDdyUH). When the topic has been finalized, we will update this event with the discussion guide. All Schoolhouse students are welcome to attend. You do not need to be part of the NSDA in order to participate. If you'd like to explore starting a speech and debate team at your school, check out [these resources.](https://schoolhouse.world/redirect?code=N4wiNN3kiE3uQIcnWMzGi) Here’s some helpful information to help you prepare for your session: 📌 Session introduction: At the start of the session, the event host will provide some introductory remarks about how the session will work and tips for discussion. 🧩 Discussion partner matching: All participants will be matched with a conversation partner to discuss with. If there are uneven numbers, you may have two conversation partners. 🤝 Breakout discussions: After the session introduction, everyone will switch to their breakout discussion. Your discussion will be unmoderated, so you can start when your partner arrives in the new Zoom link. 🗺️ Discussion Guide: You will have a topic-specific discussion guide for the session to help guide conversation. ⏰ Session length: The breakout discussions are scheduled for 45 minutes but you can discuss as long as you want! ✅ Stay on topic: Please make sure to stay on topic. If you and your partner run out of things to discuss, it’s okay to end the discussion early. You will not be returning to the main group when your conversation is over. 🤔 Make the discussion your own: You probably won’t have time to answer all the guide questions so pick and choose! Feel free to also bring in your own questions and ideas outside of the guide. 📝 Survey: A mandatory survey will appear at the end of your session to fill out. This must be filled out for you to get credit for the session in your Dialogues portfolio. 🤸‍♂️ Have fun: There is no preparation needed for this event. These conversations are meant to be casual, in addition to being meaningful. We hope you enjoy it!

🌐💬Respectful Discussions 🌐💬 Dialogue Club - Margaret S

Fridays 11:00 PM, Fridays 10:00 PM, Saturdays 12:00 AM

Everyone is welcome! We're one of the longest-running clubs at this point in time. Please feel free to drop in whenever you're able! Our goal is to bring people together to have open and collaborative discussions about modern topics and issues. We value participant input, and your feedback will help us decide topics for upcoming sessions. By joining a Dialogue Club, you can meet new students from around the world, improve your debate and communication skills, and play a role in fostering a positive learning environment! Additionally, by participating in a Dialogues Club (3+ sessions), you'll have the opportunity to build a Dialogues Portfolio, which can boost your college applications! Every session we'll open breakout rooms of 2-3 members to discuss the session's topic in a small group. A discussion guide will be provided with some guiding questions and an overview of main stances on the topic. Please be respectful of the other participant's view(s) and find perspectives that challenge your own stance. There will be a post-session survey where you can give feedback on your partners (this is where portfolio feedback comes from, so please be respectful and insightful to help your fellow participants out)! We hope to see you there! (OLD) Schedule and helpful links: [Our Club's Hub!
