This session is designed not only to teach advanced Desmos techniques useful for the SAT, but also to explain when and how to use Desmos effectively. Many advanced Desmos tutorials try to convince students that the road to an 800 lies in learning all kinds of Desmos tricks and shortcuts. As a result, many students rely on Desmos to such an extent that they become completely confused when they try to solve a question without it. This overreliance not only hampers their SAT score, but also affects their mathematical maturity, which they will carry into college. I believe that the key to an 800 lies in strong conceptual understanding. However, that doesn’t mean advanced Desmos methods should be ignored. That’s why this session is designed to teach students how to use Desmos as a powerful tool, not as a replacement for conceptual thinking.
