About

This session is designed not only to teach advanced Desmos techniques useful for the SAT, but also to explain when and how to use Desmos effectively. Many advanced Desmos tutorials try to convince students that the road to an 800 lies in learning all kinds of Desmos tricks and shortcuts. As a result, many students rely on Desmos to such an extent that they become completely confused when they try to solve a question without it. This overreliance not only hampers their SAT score, but also affects their mathematical maturity, which they will carry into college.

I believe that the key to an 800 lies in strong conceptual understanding. However, that doesn’t mean advanced Desmos methods should be ignored. That’s why this session is designed to teach students how to use Desmos as a powerful tool, not as a replacement for conceptual thinking.

Topics covered in this session:
  1. Desmos overview
  2. Desmos Regressions
  3. Using Tables
  4. WHEN and HOW to use Desmos
  5. Independent Problem Solving
  6. Q&A
Who this session is for
Students who have already completed the fundamentals of SAT Math and are comfortable with the core concepts will benefit most from this session.

I am a self-taught software engineer from Bangladesh. I have achieved a perfect 800 on the Math section of the SAT multiple times, including on the previous paper-based version of the exam. My current R&W score is 680. I also have 6+ years of experience teaching Math, Physics, and English to 11th and 12th-grade students. In my free time, I enjoy reading books and watching tennis. When I am completely bored, I play metroidvania games such as Hollow Knight: Silksong. And currently, my efforts are directed towards going into a US college as a non-traditional student.

Wed 12:30 AM - 2:30 AM UTCFeb 25, 12:30 AM - 2:30 AM UTC

In this session, I am going to be covering the second half of the previous session, specifically the "WHEN and HOW to use Desmos" part. I know many of you were not able to continue with me in the previous session. I accept responsibility for this of course, mostly because: 1) I couldn't properly anticipate the amount of time it would take to cover everything, 2) I tried to answer as many of your questions as possible, and 3) I never expected that ~100 students are going to attend the session (I thought it I would see about 30-40 students at best). But now that I know what to expect, I'll be better prepared for this one.
