About

My name is Daphne, and I'm a junior from New York. My two favorite subjects are science and math. In my free time, you may catch me conspiring with my Rubik's Puzzle collection, playing random story-driven games (I love pixels!), drawing and burning myself out while doing so, or hugging stuffed animals.

All About Rubik's Cubing

    3rd session

I plan on teaching how to solve the Rubik's Cube! Specifically, I will be teaching the Beginner's Method (layer-by-layer). I'll also be teaching a bit of Singmaster notation on the side (which is the standard Rubik's Cube notation and is used in official competitions). You should have a working 3x3x3—preferably, you should have one that turns well. A lot of the dollar stores around my house sell okay-turning cubes, so you may have luck with those (try to get the ones with rounded corners on each of the cubies/little cubes). Other than that, there's good quality cubes on the internet. Some good sellers are TheCubicle, SpeedCubeShop. AliExpress, etc. (Do not buy a GAN if you are just starting out, it'll be a waste—QiYi is a good budget brand and MoYu is all-around nice. Also, don't buy a Rubik's Brand.) Other than that, I'll also include some history behind the Rubik's Cube (and other puzzles with enough interest), and I'll introduce some of the Rubik's Cubing communities that are out there. I'm open to more suggestions! As such, the exact specifics in the schedule will be tentative. I do know that I will host on Mondays and Thursdays at 19:30 EDT (except on holidays and that one day on June 28). I will usually also host office hours the day after at the same time. I will not be going over speed-solving methods (CFOP, Roux, Petrus, ZZ, etc.) as I have not mastered all the algorithms. For CFOP specifically, YouTuber JPerm has a good compilation of tutorials.

Khan Academy - Series

    Starts

Do you like looking at patterns? Do you want to know how we can add an infinite number of terms and still get a rational number? If these questions intrigue you, then the Series unit would be just right for you! While these are simply the basics, they provide a great foundation for harder mathematics courses, such as calculus and math Olympiad questions (although the latter is a bit of a reach). I will be basing my curriculum on the Khan Academy Precalculus Series unit (https://www.khanacademy.org/math/precalculus/x9e81a4f98389efdf:series), so feel free to peruse the catalog if your curiosity is nagging at you. I'm looking forward to meeting and learning with you all throughout the duration of this series! ADDENDUM: I apologize for any scheduling inconveniences that this series may have caused, especially as it is later in the day.

Khan Academy - Trigonometry

    Starts

When we think of trigonometry (trig), we might be overwhelmed, And for good reason—we've got three new operations, and π shows up everywhere (and not for the area or circumference of a circle)! If you relate, then this Trigonometry series would be just right for you! These are simply the basics, but they will provide a great foundation for harder mathematics courses, such as calculus courses (AP and college). Most of all, they serve as a good way to ease into the world of trig. I will be basing my curriculum on the Khan Academy Precalculus Trigonometry unit (https://www.khanacademy.org/math/precalculus/x9e81a4f98389efdf:trig), so feel free to peruse the catalog if your curiosity is nagging at you. I'm looking forward to meeting and learning with you all throughout the duration of this series! ADDENDUM: I apologize for any scheduling inconveniences that this series may have caused, especially as it is later in the day.

AP® Review · Session

AP Biology

This will be an introduction into AP Biology! I will be going over the first unit, which is officially titled "Chemistry of Life". During this session, I will be reviewing properties reviewed during chemistry that will be relevant such as the periodic table and the different type of bonds. I will also be going over the structure and functions of macromolecules such as proteins and lipids.

YASS very much enjoyed im feeling smarter already. I think giving us more time to try ourselves would be helpful, also i would like a free rubix mailed to me. thank you.

Daphne was really interactive trying to connect together with each other. She was getting personal a little too quick, however, it made all the students a lot more interactive with her lesson so I guess that was a good thing. But one thing I would highly crique is the fact that she tried to talk too much with little thought. There was a lot of fast talking, ummms, and likes but the explanations were still good despite that.
