Really fun! Greatly appreciate the discussion!

Learner · 12 days ago

You did a great job continuously engaging learners throughout the session by initiating in-depth, text-based discussions and inviting students to share their interpretations. I noticed that learners actively participated and built on one another’s ideas, which indicates that your prompts were effective and thoughtfully designed. Encouraging students to explain their thinking came through clearly, especially when you asked follow-up questions that pushed them to clarify or expand their analysis. One small way to deepen this even further could be asking students to explicitly reference passages or quote lines from the text when explaining their ideas, which would strengthen both their reasoning and their textual analysis skills. Overall, I loved how active the discussion was throughout the entire session and how you fostered that environment!

Tutor · 12 days ago

You created a very comfortable and welcoming learning environment, which was evident from the start of the session. The learners seemed familiar and at ease with you, engaging in conversation early on and participating confidently throughout. Your kind, compassionate tone helped reinforce that this was a safe space to share ideas and ask questions. By fostering an intellectually stimulating yet supportive atmosphere, you helped strengthen learners’ confidence in expressing their interpretations. Continuing to acknowledge student contributions explicitly (e.g., highlighting insightful comments or strong connections to the text) could further reinforce learner confidence and motivation. Keep up the great work!

Tutor · 12 days ago

You did an excellent job encouraging learners to explain their reasoning and actively participate in shaping the discussion. For example, when a learner suggested that the character “might have used ignorance as a shield,” you didn’t just accept the answer. You asked, “What parts of the text make you think that, and could it be interpreted differently?” This follow-up invited the learner to unpack their thought process and consider multiple perspectives, which was really effective. You also used learners’ input to guide the pacing and focus of the session. When one participant connected the character’s gradual moral compromises to John Perkins’ description of economic manipulation, you built on that idea by asking, “How do small, justifiable decisions build into larger consequences in both the story and the real world?” This not only reinforced the learner’s contribution but also allowed the session to explore new examples and deepen understanding based on their reasoning. Throughout the session, learners clearly felt ownership of the discussion. Multiple learners offered examples of ethical dilemmas from their own experiences, and you responded with questions like, “How would you navigate that choice, and what might the consequences be?” This kept everyone engaged and ensured that participation was active, which is impressive. One way to make this even stronger could be to occasionally have learners summarize each other’s reasoning before you weigh in. This would reinforce peer-to-peer explanation and give learners even more ownership of the session’s flow. Keep up this amazing work :)

You did an awesome job making learners feel confident and comfortable. Right from the start, you set a tone where it was clear that mistakes were totally fine and part of learning. For example, when someone stumbled explaining their view on the character’s choices, you said, “That’s actually a great point, let’s unpack it together,” which made it easy for them to keep contributing without feeling nervous. You also created a really friendly, respectful environment. Learners were comfortable enough to use each other’s names, share personal thoughts about the text, and even joke a little, which made the session feel like a real discussion rather than just a lesson. Your encouragement for learners to interact with each other, like when you prompted them to respond to a peer’s interpretation with, “Do you agree or see it differently?” helped strengthen their confidence and made everyone feel like part of the group. One small thing that could make it even better is to occasionally highlight when a learner is improving or making progress. Even just a quick “I can see you getting this more and more each time we talk about it” can boost confidence even further. Awesome job!!

Thanks a lot for the session! I enjoyed a lot. I saw something different in your session. In this kind of series people usually use very defined questions but your questions are different. It feels like you try to generalize all the outcomes from the book and try to make some very intuitive questions. I felt really good during the session that I could able share some thoughts that I really want to. Thank you again!

Learner · 27 days ago

You conveyed a great understanding of the material and were able to present the information to your learners in a fluid, friendly, and understandable way. Awesome job! It is clear you laid a strong foundation with the slideshow you created. It is visually pleasing and also contains good bullet points and images. Keep up the great prep!

Learner · 1 mo. ago

Awesome job with creating a super comfortable environment for you learners. It's very clear that they are engaged and excited to join the sessions, and they are comfortable enough to discuss history with you. Asking questions was a great way to engage them even more. The one thing I would add to make your sessions even better is engaging all of your other learners, so that everyone's voice is heard, rather than a few. But again, excellent job!

Tutor · 1 mo. ago

Again, amazing job at engaging your learners and making a comfortable environment for them to share their thoughts and opinions freely without fear of judgement. You do an excellent job of making them feel heard and safe.

Thank you for this session! It was very fun and interactive.

Learner · 3 mo. ago

She used clear examples (inflatable tanks, sound deception, radio mimicking) and historical context (Normandy, Operation Bettenberg), which helped illustrate the complex subject effectively. She could improve by giving a slightly faster overview at the start to set expectations.

Tutor · 3 mo. ago

Than you for this session! I enjoyed how interactive it was.

Learner · 3 mo. ago

The session was entertaining and easy to understand. It helped me learn more about WW2 history and scientific ethics. We also had conversations out of the topic to have lighter notes and that was definitely the most entertaining.

Learner · 4 mo. ago

tysm for your help and understanding!

Learner · 4 mo. ago

A deep, sophisticated understanding of the material was displayed throughout the session. While slides often illustrated a few bullets, the content referred to by Isabela was natural and confident. Despite starting from a prior Zoom session and needing a few minutes to set up, the session still ran smoothly and was extremely informative.

Tutor · 4 mo. ago

There were various instances of learner-to-learner interaction where the environment was comfortable for facilitation. The tutor often jumps into these, inserting her own two cents, but overall fosters a conversational, comfortable tutoring experience. Learners are intrigued to know more about certain facts she spews, such as the presidents' relativity and prisoners' voting ability.

Learner · 10 days ago

You were very well prepared to run the session smoothly, as you came in with the content clearly prepared and demonstrated strong familiarity with Chapters 5 and 6 of the novel. Your ability to analyze the text in real time and reference specific moments from the book showed a deep understanding of the material, which helped ground the discussion in evidence rather than general impressions. I especially appreciated how you introduced the session in a structured and professional way, while also remaining open-minded and intentional about listing and validating multiple perspectives. One thing that might make this even stronger is briefly outlining the key themes or guiding questions at the beginning of the session, so learners have a clear framework for how each part of the discussion fits together. Overall, I think that your session was great!

Tutor · 12 days ago

I selected N/A for identifying signs of struggle because learners consistently took initiative and were highly engaged, so there were no clear indicators of confusion that required intervention. That said, you adapted very well to learners’ needs by facilitating a flexible, discussion-based session that allowed students to explore ideas at depth and at their own pace. Your ability to respond thoughtfully to student contributions and steer the conversation based on their interests showed strong adaptability. This helped maintain an intellectually stimulating environment where learners could deepen their understanding collaboratively. If there were one area to further strengthen this, it might be intentionally checking in with quieter participants by inviting them to share a takeaway or question, ensuring that all voices are equally heard. You could also consider briefly summarizing key discussion points before transitioning topics to help reinforce learning and maintain clarity. :)

Tutor · 12 days ago

You demonstrated a strong command of the material and guided the session smoothly once the discussion began. You were well prepared both conceptually and logistically, having all relevant resources ready before the session, including queuing the YouTube video and opening the Confessions of an Economic Hit Man PDF, which allowed transitions between materials to feel seamless. Rather than focusing only on surface-level understanding, you consistently pushed learners to think about why the ideas in Chapters 5 and 6 matter. For example, when you asked whether the character “actually chose ignorance, or just used it as a shield,” you moved the group beyond identifying actions and into examining the ethical reasoning behind them. This helped learners understand the underlying concepts of moral compromise and complicity, not just the events of the text. You also explained complex ideas clearly by grounding them in relatable examples. Your discussion of “selling his soul in small, justifiable steps” worked as an analogy, helping learners visualize how gradual decisions lead to larger moral consequences. Instead of simply asking what the character did, you guided learners to discuss why those decisions felt acceptable at the time and how that connects to broader real-world systems. To strengthen this even further, you could make the session flow more intentionally from the very beginning by briefly outlining your main discussion goals at the start. Doing so would ensure the session feels structured from the first minute and help learners follow the progression of ideas more smoothly throughout.

Tutor · 12 days ago

You were really great at noticing when learners were struggling. For example, when someone paused and looked unsure about connecting the character’s actions to bigger ethical ideas, you checked in with, “Can you walk me through what part feels confusing here?” It made it clear that it was totally okay to be unsure and encouraged them to share their thoughts without worrying. You also did a nice job adapting to each learner’s needs. When another learner was having trouble linking the story to John Perkins’ Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, you offered a quick example and asked, “Does this comparison make sense, or would another analogy help?” This really helped them grasp the idea at their own pace while keeping the session moving. I also loved how you built on what learners already knew. When someone brought up an earlier discussion about ethical compromises, you tied it back to Chapters 5 and 6 by asking, “How does that earlier example help us understand this character’s choices?” That helped reinforce prior learning and nudged everyone toward thinking more deeply. One small thing that could make it even better is summarizing a struggling learner’s explanation out loud before moving on. It helps make sure everyone’s on the same page and shows that their reasoning really matters. Overall, you created a supportive vibe where learners felt comfortable diving into tricky ideas.

Tutor · 12 days ago

Thank you for the session! I guess the discussions are getting more interesting day by day.

You created a very comfortable environment in the beginning of the session. You artful turned a moment of silence with Omar into a meaningful conversation when you asked him "You do anything exciting this week?"-- prompting him to share about his game. Keep up these kinds of friendly interactions! Also, you did a great job at answering questions spoken out loud, like the question about the Electoral College, and from the chat, like when you answered Venkat's question about governments and oil. This dual engagement helps learners feel safe to engage however they are comfortable. Keep this up!

Tutor · 1 mo. ago

Thank you for always doing your best in teaching us and preparing the learning materials.

Nice class!

Isabela is quick to tend to learners' questions and queries. She often goes out of her way to expand on a point brought up amongst learners for clarification. When Junwei asked whether the current president was distantly related to anybody, she admitted to her lack of knowledge and searched for the answer, piecing it together. This initiative to clarify any lingering concerns demonstrates adaptability to learners' needs.

Tutor · 4 mo. ago

Isabela's teaching method consistently encourages the learners to engage throughout the session. This is demonstrated through learners Junwei and Aeparish's comfort level in unmuting: constantly contributing to the conversation at hand and talking amongst each other about the lesson. Moreover, Isabela engages in side conversations while staying on topic, building rapport and a strong tutor-learner relationship.
