About

Hey! I'm an 11th grader living in SoCal (Class of '27) and I am here to assist others in STEM subjects and learn more myself! <3

I've gotten 5s on AP Calculus AB and AP Psychology, and I earned a 4 in AP Computer Science Principles, which I completely self studied!

My MBTI is ENFP, and my favorite subject is math (though, I am prone to adding the +C to my derivatives sometimes...). Here on Schoolhouse, I have loads of fun certifying myself on math concepts and tutoring them! I'm excited to meet you, and I hope you have a wonderful day/night!

Algebra 1 Course Challenge!!

    Starts

Hey there!! In this session, we are going to do the course challenge on Khan Academy together. I will screen share the challenge, and we will go over the question as a group and surf through all the questions, clearing any doubts we encounter along the way! If you can solve a problem, go for it, but if you require help, I'll be there! This is a perfect opportunity to evaluate your Algebra 1 skills if you're heading into Algebra 2 this school year. Feel free to ask any questions and I will be more than happy to go through them with you. Cheers and see you in the session! PS: Bring paper and pencils

You started your session in a calm, positive tone while trying to build a connection with your learner as fast as possible. You asked them questions like "Where do you live?" and "How is school so far?" which is great and shows that you care and are trying to build a relationship with your learner beyond just the simple "Tutor-Learner". You are making a friend. Thus, this immediately establishes a comfortable learning environment because your learner feels safer. Additionally, you always used positive, reassuring language to let the learner know they are making progress. When the learner left the call due to internet issues, you waited patiently, and did not hold it against them. You kept your composure, and moved on which is a great quality that all tutors should have.

Whenever your learner said they didn't understand a particular topic, you took a step back, and approached the problem step by step while providing clarity as to how the learner should think about the question in the future. I will use the same example I used above in "Engage Actively". When you and your learner were attempting to identify different Prime and Composite Numbers, you were willing to give your learner a new set of tricks to use called Divisibility Rules. This was a great way to adjust the session back from just the base content and attempt to suit your learner's needs with a set of skills they could use in the future. Great job!

Throughout the session, you encouraged questions, and asked your learner if they were understanding what you were saying which is a great way to slowly find out about your learner's level. Another thing I loved about what you did, was that after you and your learner had completed a problem, you didn't immediately rush to the next problem, and asked your learner questions to confirm if their logic is correct. For example, when your learner was attempting to answer a Prime vs Composite Number question, you asked them questions like 'You thought this number was composite because it is divisible by 2 right?'. In my opinion, questions like these are one of the most important questions you can ask your learners not just because it is a great way to build engagement, but it asks your learners to explain their thinking in a way that will get them to remember the material better. Keep doing what you're doing!
