About

I'm a rising high school senior from Texas in the United States. I'm here to share my knowledge and experience in math, which is my passion. This summer, I'm preparing for various math and computer science competitions like the AIME and USACO, and working on neuroscience research. Aside from these, I also compete in Science Olympiad, Science Fair, Debate, FTC Robotics, and DECA.

I like to give back to the world by coaching middle schoolers in competitive mental math, as well as by tutoring here. I believe that free, high-quality education is a human right, which is why I'm a tutor on Schoolhouse :)

Of course, there is still a lot that I don't know, and although I hope to pass on some of my knowledge, I'm here to hopefully add to it as well.

I want to help everyone feel confident in their subjects, be it math, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, the SAT, and beyond - if you have any questions at all, or need any support in these topics, I am always happy to help you out!

Piyush made learners feel welcome from the start with friendly check-ins like “Hey, how are you?” and showed consideration for latecomers by summarizing key points when Ayna joined. His repeated encouragement for learners to sak up (“Don’t be afraid to unmute”) helped create a psychologically safe learning space. He also addressed learners by name, which reinforced a sense of personal connecton and inclusion.

One of Piyush’s biggest strengths in this session was how interactive he made it. Rather than simly lecturing, he paused often to check for understanding, invited learners to unmute, and guided them through code snippets and examples. The mini quiz near the midle, where he called on Aanvi, Ayona, and Haoyu in turn, kept everyone engaged and actively processing the material. He didn’t rush anyone and gave supportive, corrective feedback where needed (“That’s a good guess” or “Yeah, you’re completely right!”), which made the learning feel collaborative instead of evaluative.

This session wasn’t just about definitions—it was about buiding coneptual depth. Piyush ephasized understanding the “why” behind sorting algorithms rather than just memorizing Java syntax. His explanation of pseudocode, flowcharts, and real-world parallels (like comparing arrays to family trees) made abstract CS concepts fel more relatable. He transitioned smoothly into data structures and selection sort, layering complexity without losing clarity.

Piyush did a solid job kicking things off. Even tough there was a small tech hiccup at the beginning, he quickly regained momentum and eased into the content smoothly. He clearly introduced the key goals—covering algorithms, sorting, and complxity topics—and emphasized that prior exposure to computer science wasn’t mandaory, which helped make the session feel more accessible. His early clarification of terms like “algorithm” and the breakdown into concepts like sequence, selection, and repetition helped ground the lesson in fundamentals without overwhelming anyone.
