She’s really good at literature and English, and also a great teacher. Super helpful with analysis and reflection, and I found her tips on questioning the text and other areas really useful.

You were highly attuned to Megan's struggles and adapted your approach accordingly. When she was processing a difficult question, you gave her space and time before prompting her with, "I wanna hear your thoughts on this." Later, you recognized her difficulty with the "buttress" question and pivoted from a standard practice problem to an opportunity for broader learning. You explained the word's origin and gave her a general strategy for how to improve her vocabulary and reading comprehension outside of the session, recommending that she "just Google social studies... and put… .gov, or . colon edu." This is a fantastic example of adapting to a student's unique needs.

You consistently engaged Megan throughout the session by asking open-ended questions like, "Are you confident in your answer?" and "What are reasons you might be for or against B?" This prompted her to articulate her reasoning rather than just providing an answer. You also modeled this behavior yourself when you said, "I'm going between A and B right now. And… The reason for that is because…" By doing so, you're not just a passive proctor; you're an active partner in the problem-solving process. To continue to improve, you could ask Megan to explain why she eliminated certain answer choices, not just why she chose a particular one.
