Arjun created a very comfortable and engaging learning environment. His learner asked questions throughout the session and was not afraid to speak up when they were lost, proving that they placed trust in Arjun. When the learner had difficulty understanding a step, he responded in a very patient, supportive tone. He simply went back a step, re-explained his previous work, and then continued. He paid attention to her level of (and therefore sometimes lack of) comprehension. He made it clear that he was more than happy to revisit a step if she got confused! One note - he may benefit from turning on his camera if he feels comfortable, as this tends to help foster a stronger tutor/learner connection.

Arjun did a wonderful job in this Live Help session! He effectively used annotation tools to clearly walk through the question. He took the "we do" approach, working side-by-side with his learner to solve the problem. He took the initiative to direct his learner towards the correct answers when they were confused, but still let them solve the question with a sense of independence. He conveyed a strong understanding of the material, explaining why each step was taken rather than just what step should be taken. It was clear that he felt very comfortable with the material, which in effect made his learner more confident. Great work!

You did really well adapting to your learners' needs! When a learner told you that they were stuck, you walked them through it and reviewed other concepts as needed throughout the session. You understood that they needed additional help and made sure to explain the concepts in simpler steps for easier comprehension. My only recommendation would be to check in with learners to make sure your pacing is okay and that they are understanding (like using a scale of 1-10 to ask them how they're feeling about the content). Otherwise, I thought you really made all learners' voices feel heard and understood their unique needs!

You definitely made the session very learner-oriented by providing them with practice problems and asking them to explain their thinking! You minimized the time spent on teaching and instead asked students to apply their learning. I liked how you often guided learners toward the right answer instead of telling them what they did wrong, which helped them understand the thought process much better!

Arjun showed excellent flexibility by pivoting away from the planned Khan Academy course to work on the fundamental arithmetic errors. He dedicated a significant portion of this segment to teaching fraction multiplication and fraction subtraction (when Omar was confused by 3− 3/10) and recognizing these prerequisite skills was necessary before moving on to variables and expressions. This adjustment confirmed that his teaching was student-led and almost diagnostic like. He identified the issue with 3−3/10 as a lack of understanding of common denominators and showed how to rewrite the whole number as a fraction (30/10).

Arjun maintained a highly active and responsive format throughout the session that engaged both students especially during the introduction to variables and expressions. Arjun used simple one-step problems (e.g., 9−B where B=8) to build confidence and reinforce the simple concept of plugging in the value for the variable. When Omar was confused on the last question (9-8/S where S = 4), Arjun used a guiding strategy by asking Omar to apply order of operations step-by-step: What is 8 divided by 4? and then What's 9 minus 2? Arjun ensured that Omar arrived at the correct answer through his own reasoning rather than just giving the answer out. A slight suggestion for Arjun would be to address Sricharan who was quieter during the review section. This encourages Sricharan to take a lead in explaining one of the PEMDAS steps and reinforce the peer-teaching set-up that Arjun had established earlier.

Arjun made sure that his learner was never confused during the session. He asked the learner "Does this make sense?" and "Why did we do that step?" to ensure that they fully grasped the broader concepts, not just the one problem itself. Arjun also introduced an additional practice problem for his learner to check their understanding. Whenever the learner said that they did not know the answer to a problem or were lost, Arjun took a step back and worked carefully through the previous and current steps to refocus his learner and clarify their understanding.

Arjun kept his learner actively engaged throughout the entire session. It was roughly the ideal 50/50 learner/tutor talk time, which is amazing! Arjun consistently asked the learner questions about what steps should be taken, why, and if they need any further clarification. The learner asked lots of questions, demonstrating their engagement and comfortability with Arjun. To build upon this, Arjun might have benefitted from saying that he'd be happy to meet with the learner again in the future if she needed further help, but nonetheless, great job!

You did a really great job making learners feel welcome! You asked how each learner's name was pronounced before you started the session, which created a more trusting environment. Even when learners struggled with a question, you continuously explained the concept until they were able to get it and made sure to encourage them along the way!

You were clearly very prepared for the lesson! You made slides in advance and found practice problems on Khan Academy for your learners to work through. When learners asked you questions about the material, you were more than prepared to answer them and explain the deeper "why" behind the concept.

Arjun showed great patience and good commitment to making sure Omar fully grasped the core concept of multiplying a whole number by a fraction (4×1/25). By recognizing Omar's unfamiliarity, which came from confusing the fraction multiplication rule with the fraction exponent rule, Arjun didn't just rush the explanation. Instead, he broke it down step-by-step patiently reiterating the rule to only multiply it by your numerator. He also did so by illustrating it by writing the whole number as a fraction (4/1 x 1/25). Arjun even proposed a dedicated office hours session to review fraction arithmetic showing his clear commitment to Omar's need of extra help.

Arjun did a great job at successfully transitioning to laying the foundation for the next topic: variables and expressions. He gave a simple definition of a variable as a placeholder or a letter that can be substituted with a number. He demonstrated the core operation substitution using easy examples. Although the discussion about quadratic equations was quickly disregarded since it was too advanced for this level, Arjun made sure the students had a solid and thorough introduction to evaluating expressions using variables and setting up the context for the following week's lesson. A main suggestion I'd offer is in fraction arithmetic. Even though Arjun correctly identified and addressed the gap or the lack of a formal written rule for fraction subtraction (for example A/C - B/C = A-B/C) meant the groundwork was verbally as opposed to formally established. Overall, his knowledge remained strong and can be further strengthened if he implements small suggestions.
