About

I am a rising high school sophomore in California, here to tutor the Reading and Writing portion of the SAT. I have been in precalc honors and will be enrolled in honors English and AP Calc BC in my sophomore year. Beyond my year Schoolhouse, I have been tutoring students online in various subjects since 2022. I also enjoy classical music and ballet as seen in my profile pic :)

She was amazing at clearing the concepts and also giving out example questions etc. Really helped clear my doubts.

Serena built a very comfortable and supportive place to learn. She started the session with a warm friendly greeting. She also made it clear that the warm up was meant to be confusing so students wouldn't get discouraged. She said things like "Don't worry if you didn't get it" and "I can understand your thought process there" to value students' efforts and reasoning even when they weren't quite right.

Serena skillfully guided students through a complex passage analysis, focusing on the nuanced roles of anterior and posterior gene expressions in echinoderms. She clearly explained how to interpret scientific findings and linked them to SAT-style multiple-choice reasoning. Her use of visual analogies (like drawing a “strange” starfish and color-coding anterior/posterior regions) made abstract biological content accessible. The pacing was intentional and appropriately slowed when necessary to rephrase difficult answer choices, helping learners break down dense information.

Serena was fantastic at keeping her students engaged. She made it a point to ask them to explain their thinking even when their answers were incorrect. She used the chat and a poll to get everyone's ideas and encouraged them to speak up about specific questions and answer choices. This method really helped students sharpen their thought processes. For example she'd ask "Do you guys want to share like what you were thinking? What made you think the answer you put was correct?"
