Quantum Physics

What's up? We will start off by meeting on Friday's and Saturday's at 12:00 pm CDT. This might change depending on our schedules. Topics: - Fight: Classical Mech vs. Quantum Mech - The EPR paradox - Bell's Theorem - Reflection and Transmission Probabilities (Quantum Tunneling) - Identical Particles (Quantum Entanglement) - Mixed States and the Density Matrix - The No-clone Theorem - Anything else we want to learn! This series focuses more on the concepts than the math of quantum physics, which means you do not necessarily need calculus to understand what's going on. I try to host efficient sessions to learn as much as we can together! However, if you feel we are going too fast, we can always slow down. If you are having a hard time understanding quantum mechanics, good! Take it from atomic theorist Niels Bohr: "If you are not confused by quantum physics then you haven't really understood it." Being curious is a key skill in this series; ask questions whenever! Oh, and no homework here. Knowing basic physics (equivalent to parts of AP Physics 1) and some math (Precalc and/or Calc) will help you learn faster in the series.

Introduction to Quantum Mechanics

Welcome! We plan meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 pm CDT (during orientation, we will decide what times are best for our schedules). This series focuses on the mathematical and conceptual aspects of quantum mechanics at the college level. We will cover the following topics in chronological order: the wave function, the time-independent schrödinger equation, formalism, identical particles, and time-independent perturbation theory. Historical theorems such as Bell's Theorem, the EPR Paradox, and more will also be discussed. The series is student-paced, so throughout our sessions we will agree upon a comfortable amount of work. There is no homework; however, you may ask me for some additional problems or help outside class. Anyone who is considering joining this series should be knowledgable in calculus (no need for multivariable) and basic physics (equivalent to AP Physics 1).

Physics! We will be learning content similar to that of a regular AP Physics course. Sessions primarily take place on Tuesday's at 9:00 p.m. CDT. We will try to focus on particular topics every session. Expect assignments, in-session practice, and occasional off-topic convos! Required knowledge in basic physics (1-D motion) and algebra II.

Introduction to Calculus

In this course, we do exactly that; go over the weird and gray areas of basic calculus. Requirements for this course include knowledge in algebra I and II. Knowledge in Pre-cal and Trigonometry are recommended, as well as some context to Calculus.
