About
What's up? We will start off by meeting on Friday's and Saturday's at 12:00 pm CDT. This might change depending on our schedules.
Topics:
- Fight: Classical Mech vs. Quantum Mech
- The EPR paradox
- Bell's Theorem
- Reflection and Transmission Probabilities (Quantum Tunneling)
- Identical Particles (Quantum Entanglement)
- Mixed States and the Density Matrix
- The No-clone Theorem
- Anything else we want to learn!
This series focuses more on the concepts than the math of quantum physics, which means you do not necessarily need calculus to understand what's going on. I try to host efficient sessions to learn as much as we can together! However, if you feel we are going too fast, we can always slow down. If you are having a hard time understanding quantum mechanics, good! Take it from atomic theorist Niels Bohr: "If you are not confused by quantum physics then you haven't really understood it." Being curious is a key skill in this series; ask questions whenever! Oh, and no homework here.
Knowing basic physics (equivalent to parts of AP Physics 1) and some math (Precalc and/or Calc) will help you learn faster in the series.
