Mohammed used icebreaker questions like “Mountains, beaches, or cities?” and “What aspect of other cultures do you like?” to get participants talking — which was a great way to make it feel interactive. He also personalized follow-ups, like asking Hiya what part of Indian culture she liked, and encouraging Zarin to share her perspective as a Bangladeshi participant.

I loved that Mohammed asked Ali why he chose B at 16:21 and then later asked him to explain his thought process at 20:11. Likewise, I love that Vedanth asked though tprovoking questions such as "what is the function of the underlined sentence." You guys both did an excellent job of demonstrating I Do, We Do, You Do. I Do: Vedanth modeled text analysis. We Do: Collaborative discussion of Q2. You Do: Independent practice test (00:57:52).

This session was warm, welcoming, and low-pressure. Both tutors encouraged participation and treated mistakes as learning opportunities. When a student mispronounced a word, Mohammed reassured them by saying even he didn’t know how to pronounce everything. Students like Ali felt comfortable taking risks and speaking at length about their reasoning, which is a sign of strong rapport.

It was excellent how you empowered the learner to lead and articulate her thinking! The guidance you provided around the 17:15 mark, gently nudging her toward the correct answer B by highlighting the author's "tone," was particularly effective. This approach truly fostered an interactive and collaborative learning environment.

Great job on making pacing adjustments such as giving Noah extra time at 1:29 and slowing down for a complex reading passage about physics. I also like that you did several comprehension checks to make sure the learners understood the material. Vedanth also did a good job with rephrasing the word micro for Ali and relating it to a processor chip.

Mohammed adapted well in the moment, he guided students through mispronunciations without judgment and offered alternatives when annotation tools weren’t available. His guidance was patient and collaborative, encouraging all levels of participation. When a student wasn’t sure about a question, he affirmed the uncertainty and helped them reason through it instead of rushing to correct.

The session stood out for its consistent student engagement. Students were invited to speak, type in chat, or read passages aloud. Both Mohammed and Vedanth directly asked students to share their thought process behind answers, and responses like Ali’s received full attention. This emphasis on explanation over just the answer helped reinforce strategy and critical thinking.

Learner · 3 mo. ago

Thank you for the study tips

Learner · 3 mo. ago

Being in a one-on-one setting gave you an opportunity to really tailor the pace to the learner. You sped up or slowed down as needed and checked in regularly, ensuring she has a solid grasp of each concept before moving on. This tailored approach likely fostered a more comfortable and effective learning environment.
