About

Hi! My name is Rukzayani (I go by Ruk). I'm a sophomore in high school in New Jersey, United States. I'm currently taking Algebra 2 and will be taking AP Calc AB next year. I enjoy math because it's like solving a puzzle piece to distract myself when something is bothering me, and helps me build my problem-solving skills. I tutor 3rd and 4th graders online as a part-time job after school. Now, during my weekends, I will be occupying myself by holding tutoring sessions to help those I can in high school math.

Regarding my values in my tutoring sessions, I value the importance of inclusivity and the acceptance of all 🌈 . Your feelings are valid! It's okay to feel frustrated about a concept or have a brain fart when you don't know the answer. However, the only way that I can help you improve is for you to acknowledge what you are struggling with so you and I can find the right steps. This is a two-sided thing, so you and I both need to put in the effort to guide you to success. I look forward to working with you soon! :)

You did a nice job of inviting the learner to attempt solving the questions throughout the session. At the beginning, it was hard to tell where the learner was struggling. It's okay to ask that directly. You're on the right track in terms of keeping the sessions interactive. In an ideal session, the learner talks even more than the tutor. As your wrap up, be sure to talk about next steps for progress. It was very generous to send notes after the session. Include a discussion about how to make continued progress, such as coming for another session.
