Exploring Astronomy with Schaum's Outlines Part I
Together, we will cover the fundamentals of college-level astronomy in a simplified and engaging way, thanks to Schaum's Outlines. This program is perfect for enthusiasts who want to explore astronomy in depth. We will work through fully solved problems and review questions collaboratively, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of each topic.
Prerequisites:
- A basic familiarity with physics is recommended to be comfortable with the course material.
- Don’t worry if you’re not a physics expert—our first session will cover all the necessary physics concepts to help you grasp the astronomical phenomena we’ll be studying.
Course Content (Part 1):
1. Physics Facts:
- Understanding masses, gases, light, and distance.
2. Sky and the Telescopes:
- Coordinate systems and timescales.
3. Terrestrial Planets:
- Formation and evolution.
- Detailed study of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Mars, and the moons of Mars.
4. Jovian Planets:
- Exploring Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, their moons, and rings.
5. Debris:
- Comets, meteorites, asteroids, Pluto, and Charon.
Future Sessions:
Based on participant feedback and interest, we may expand the program to cover additional topics, including:
- Interstellar Medium
- Star Formation
- Stellar Evolution
- Stellar Remnants
- Galaxies and Clusters
- Cosmology
