The tutor made the learners answer a few practice questions, and if they didn't know the correct answer, the tutor would explain how to get the answer, which is a good way of teaching the learners.

You personalized the interaction by thanking Zaid for the vocab and prep tips, which created a interactive learning environment rather than a monologue delivered by yourself. You immediately identified the limits (that the variable a is less than zero) and used this to justify the rewrite of the absolute value expression. The learners weren't scared of answering any of his questions or even the icebreakers. Even if the learner answered in the chat, that is completely fine, so I believe the tutor created a really comfortable environment for the learner.

You demonstrated great instructional agility by simplifying a complex transformation in real-time. When Zaid wanted a need for clarity, Johnathan shifted from abstract theory to a concrete rewrite: (now that we know it's guaranteed going to be negative, we could rewrite it as this). This adjustment showed that you were monitoring the student's mental thinking and were ready to pivot your explanations to whatever form would lead to the quickest understanding for the learner. Additionally, your mastery of the content allowed you to make these adjustments in a good flow without losing the accuracy of the lesson.

The tutor demonstrated this part very effectively by adapting their approach to meet the learner’s needs. When the learner became confused, the tutor was quick to recognize it and adjusted their explanation accordingly, using clearer language and additional examples to support understanding. Additionally, the tutor drew visually to help understand the problem clearly. This flexibility helped create a comfortable learning environment where the learner felt supported rather than overwhelmed. As a result, the learner was able to regain confidence and better grasp the concept being taught. As feedback, the tutor could consider checking in more frequently by asking the learner to explain the concept back in their own words. This would help confirm understanding and identify any remaining gaps early on. Incorporating a brief recap at the end of the explanation could also reinforce learning and further strengthen the learner’s confidence.
