You were able to understand where he was struggling with the problem when you asked him his thought process behind it, which is good. You were also able to understand what he understands about the problem, like how a histogram works and the skew, and explain it while avoiding explaining things he already understands.

That was super helpful! You demonstrated very clear knowledge of the topic, and when I got a question wrong, you were super nice about it and quickly just pointed out my error, which made me a lot more comfortable in the session. Both of these categories are not relevant to this session, because this was not a traditional "tutoring academic material" session, so there were no practice problems or activities to "understand and master content", so no practice problem answers needed to be explained.
