You recognized that the algebraic "trick" of multiplying by k/k might be too abstract, so you immediately pivoted to two good backup plans: Brute Force (Expansion) and the Desmos Strategy. Showing her that she can simply expand the answer choices to see if they match the original expression is a lifesaver for students who hit a wall with factoring.
